AMC-343 V8 / AX-15 5spd / AMC-20 = Project MJ/343
Zenobian_84 replied to AMC-MJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
To answer your first question, yeah, Covering up chrome is a pretty stupid idea IMO. :fs1: But can't be helped. Now, as for the second question, If I recall correctly, I believe that SOMEONE on here had a picture of a stock chrome bumper... Although I don't remember who/what it looked like, although I believe it looked like this.... Circled parts remained "Gunmetal" colored, while the side indented tubing (arrowed sections) were chrome. Again, not 100% if this is what it looked like, but there are aftermarket chrome bumpers made for the MJ. I don't know if they're a 100% fit though. :hmm: -
thanks everything did go well, just a couple of more weeks and i'll be back on it. Glad to see everything went well. Can't wait to see you wrench some more on this beautiful truck.

From what I gather, the black pieces on the chrome on the windows are weatherstripping to keep water from seeping down into the door panel. Mine are starting to come off as well. They hug the window to allow the water to slide off so it keeps out of the inside of the door. Otherwise, very intriguing build... Going to keep an eye on this one  -

Thanks for the info Mike; and I still have some slightly rough Idling. Next up on the replacement list is either the O2 or Map Sensor. Have a pretty strong feeling that the O2 sensor is about to kick, because my MPG just isn't what it should be. :fs1: If only I was fabulously wealthy, I'd have this truck looking pristine already :rotf: Also, just curious. You have any pictures of that 390 AMX? I got bit by the AMC bug it seems and would seriously love to find one of those and restore it. -
Speedo Connecter on the Tranny
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
 Appreciate the info guys. I thought it was on the passenger side, but I was wrong. Guess I'll figure out what those other plugs are another time. -
Going to be swapping over to a non-idiot cluster this weekend and have all the parts and whatnot ready to do the swap. I've heard that disconnecting the Speedo-cable from the transmission will give it some slack so it's easier to fiddle with inside the dash. My question is that I found 3 "plugs" on the passenger side of the transmission housing, 2 of which plug directly into it, and one is sitting next to it. The one sitting next to it connects to another plug and is 3 inches long. Am I correct in guessing that the 3 in. long plug is what connects the speedometer to the tranny? I'd take pictures for you guys but it's getting dark down here and my phone takes crappy pictures when I'm under the truck. :headpop: If I have to take pics, I'll take em tomorrow morning.

Yup. Got those on my list of games I should pick up. Wish I could find a copy of River City Ransom though. That game was fun playing with a few friends back in the day. Sadly, never made it past the Ice Level (4?) on Battletoads, but then again, who has? http://www.coolrom.com has much, much more. Ha, I used to go to that site all the time when I was retro gaming on my pc. Fun stuff there.

Back with another installation. Moving on up the line, an SNES. My sister got it for doing well in school back in 95, but she pretty much passed it to me after a few years and I've had it ever since. This has to my my all time favorite system, in terms of great games, but also a lot of personal memories tied into it. And the games, from top to bottom Jurassic Park, Super Mario World, Earthworm Jim 2, Super Castlevania IV, Jeopardy, Might Morphin' Power Rangers, Kirby SuperStar Saga, Mario Paint, Megaman X, WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game, Jurassic Park 2, Starfox, Monopoly, Secret Of Evermore, Harvest Moon (both in near mint condition with original manuals and posters) Side stuff is a SNES Game Genie, and a Paint Mouse. Not pictured is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars due to having misplaced it.... :hmm: ----------- I should also note that about 10 years ago, I owned over 80 different SNES games. No doubles, mind you. But like all stupid kids, I sold them for $ to buy something else. If only I had a time machine.... :thwak: :thwak: :thwak:

Ask and thou shall receive. As far as the 3DO goes, that's one that's eluded my grasp. We all have to start somewhere, and we can't jump to the top tier of gaming goodness when you're a rookie. ;) :rotf: So with that being said, here's the first installation of many showcasing my video game goodness. ------------- Up first (was) a mint condition NES Sports Set back from 92 I believe (- a few wires and controllers because they're stored elsewhere) I got this by sheer luck, as a friend of my dad was going to throw away this whole package in the dumpster! :fs1: :( Luckily, my dad talked him out of it and brought it home to me and my sister back in 08'. Talk about luck! Now I'm playing with power. Mint condition posters that still have that factory poster smell on them. :ack:  Back before you kids and you're fancy Wii's, we had to sit 3 feet away from this thing to be able to have "multiplayer" :shake:  And the games for the NES I currently have : Zelda II, Super Mario/Duckhunt, Castlevania, Megaman 3, StarTropics 2, Castlevania 2, Blaster Master, Megaman 2, Zelda I, Bucky O'Hare, Battletoads, and Final Fantasy Not too shabby for the NES in my opinion.

1. Need help identifying what bulb sizes these are. They're the bulbs on the information display to the left of the cluster. 2. Also wondering where you guys get replacements for these and the 194's. Most of the auto shops around here want $5 for just TWO 194's! I want to go ahead and put new bulbs in all of the spots since I don't ever want to have to take this cluster out of the truck when I put it in. 3. Lastly, I was wondering if the "You need to pull into a gas station and get some gas right now you moron" light ever needs to be replaced? I know it's probably a silly thing to ask, but I always wondered if it did (considering it's on 75% of the time in my friend's 93 XJ since he hardly ever puts more than 10$ of gas at a time in it :rotf: )

Got a few side projects now, so working on the truck has come to almost a crawl. It also doesn't help that it's 105 almost every day with over 50% humidity to boot. :headpop: Irregardless, here's progress! Painted the gauge bezel flat black, and gave the yellowing backside the 'ol pearly white treatment. Fiddling around with the bulb connectors. The last XJ / MJ this cluster was in had Command-Trac or some such. PT 4WD and FT 4WD aren't important to me since I have no 4WD linkage. :( Still surprises me how long these bulbs will last. Anyway, I'll update again when real progress is made. Til then, stay cool (yeah right). -
Decided to go to an indoor flea market with some money in my pocket. Seeing as my Jeep doesn't need anything for it right now (surprisingly... ) and it needs something to do to justify me keeping it, I looked around a bit and found this. So $60 less and 10 minutes of driving home later.... A 1991 SEGA video game display case in rather good shape  When I'm not wrenching on cars, I'm out looking for classic video game stuff. I've got such a big collection it's not even funny, so I figured this would compliment my collection quite nicely. Seeing as I have some spare MJ Badges, I'll probably also use it to display those as well. ;) Closeup of the logo. How nice... Shame Nintendo ran them into the ground. Shot of the doors. They have the Sega logo etched into the glass and the logo is still in pristine shape. Goes to show you how nothing made nowadays can compare to the old days (our MJ's for instance) Will update this when new progress is made. For now I have to go out and do some wrenching. :wrench:
-
Middle of FL. Was about 105 today with about 90% humidity, all. day. long. Usually, I'm the last person out of all my friends to start complaning, and I've done my fair share of wrenching in the sun, but when it's this miserable, my Jeep takes a backseat for a while. In fact, I'm looking for excuses NOT to go outside and work on it, especially since I have a new cluster to install; a radio to completely rewire, and I'll be inside the non AC, pillbox compartment for a whole afternoon. Not to mention all the crawling under the truck on hot concrete to unhook wires from the transmission and the wrenching inside the engine compartment to swap sensors. Not. Fun. At. All.
-
Funny you mention that.... Been tinkering in that department for a good week now. What does the vacuum block look like?
-
Got what I needed, thanks everyone.
-
Hmm, sounds simple enough, and I wouldn't doubt there's a leak somewhere. You know off the top of your head how much it is to replace the entire line?
-
How would I go about doing that exactly? :hmm:
-
Thanks for the offer, but when the weather around here clears (Central FL rainstorm week... :fs1: ) and I get a window of opportunity longer than an hr to work on the truck, I'll see if it is the radio goofing, or whether I goofed myself. More than likely, it was the PO that goofed, and I have to correct his mistakes. :shake: :fs2:
-
"Problem #256 on today's list John." for those of you who get the reference. :clapping: Anway, the first the problem is that I have a basic Non AC system. Although I can live with this. What I can't live with, however, is the fact that only these 2 vents and the defroster vents are blowing air. These vents do not blow air, with the exception of the middle one (under AC controls) that just barely "trickles" air out. Anyone have any ideas why the others don't blow any air whatsover? I'm all ears as I've tried running the system on hot and cold, at all speeds, and when the truck is first started, and then later on after being driven for over 30 minutes. All to no positive results. :dunno:

:rotf: As far as Fab skills go, it's near 0, mainly because I'm a interior fab guy, not a body welder fab guy. If only I could swap the two, I'd rather have great metal working abilities than making an interior cabin look factory pristine. Appreciate the insight though (and the story) Guess I'll keep an eye out for an MJ gas tank I can pilfer.
-
:hijack: Getting back to the original question... If I have to swap in another tank, are there any other truck tanks I can swap in?
-
My 87 antennae lead goes into the red hole, but I am unsure if there's anything that goes into the blue. Sorry I misconstrued what you said  I'm just getting fed up with dealing with this whole radio business to be honest. :wall: Probably going to spend tomorrow going back through all my wiring (weather permitting). All I know is that there's going to be one wire missing (because there's an uneven # of wires I have.) So something is going to have to be sacrificed to get this  thing running.

Been working on and off on the truck. Frustrations coming to a head, but still.... :headpop: I think everyone's been here before. My 94 XJ radio wiring madness. This is such a PITA because the PO cut so many wires from the stock harness wiring. :headpop: And then there's this below the cluster Other than that, I've been making the MJ earn its keep (moving a friend of mine's girlfriend into his house) not to mention there's a lot of rust starting to pop up in places. So I guess this week is now going to be dubbed Rust Prevention week. :ack:
