The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951, not the 2008 one) Really a great social commentary that still rings true today. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Brilliant dark comedy that demonstrated the absurdity of the cold war. Idiocracy Not intended to be a documentary but it ended up being one

Came out of a 1987 MJ. 203,xxx miles Shifts smoothly. Comes with bellhousing, 4.0 flywheel and transmission mount if you want it. I can throw in the rear driveshaft from the same shortbed or just the slip yoke if you want it. $50 takes it all. Located in South Denver. I will be driving from Denver to South Carolina and back Memorial day weekend and can transport it along that route.

Now that the CJ is mostly mobile, I'm going to get started on this project in earnest. First step is to strip the silver donor for parts. I'm keeping the engine and wiring, as well as some of the interior and at least part of the bed. Some of the good metal is going to @aris_garage_builds for the 4.0 swap. The donor is in the garage and I've started the tear down process.

The book is good too. Slightly different ending.

You're better off without the manual in the JL. The clutch design is really sub par. And the transmission itself isn't the best out there.

After the first fire, the heater core let go. I ordered a replacement. In the short term I bypassed it. But I got to take it around the neighborhood and gas it up.

Hmmmm... I'm going to be in the vicinity in late July... -
The computer needed to self adjust a little and it settled into a pretty smooth running engine. But it's alive again!

I still have to run through emissions testing. But I'm down once that's done.

Had a minor setback. The vacuum booster moves the master cylinder forward. I bent the lines going to the new cylinder and ended up breaking one of them. Ordered a set of replacement lines specifically for the power brake CJ. And a new proportioning valve while I was at it. I got the full line kit but opted to skip doing all of them. Getting the front to back line out is hard. So is the passenger side front. Anyway, got the new lines in and bled. Next step is to try to do a first fire tomorrow.

Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I. Neither do I.... -
I'm staying stock on mine. Renix likely has fewer options than HO, but they are similar so I'm not sure how much croses over between them. I do have spare Renix intake and exhaust manifolds that look stock. They'll be available in the next couple of weeks.

If it's really stuck, heat is a good option.

Yeah, the deeper first gear of the transmission, along with a torque converter stall speed matched to the engine, really makes a difference in the JL.

Always a good addition. Maybe we can get enough momentum to make this the Comanche and CJ Club...

They're not too difficult to find from dedicated CJ parts recyclers. The brackets are like 3/16" steel so not terrible to fabricate but you need some heavy metal working tools. For $60 shipped, I decided to just buy them.
-
I bought an aftermarket kit off ebay. But the brackets put the booster too far forward. I found a used power brake booster bracket off ebay instead. It moves the vacuum booster closer to the firewall so it clears the air cleaner. You will have to bend the brake lines because the master cylinder moves forward.
-
I got the power brake booster lined up. Good news is that it clears everything. Bad news is that I need a boot for the rod. The old manual brakes plugged the hole. That'll be here on Tuesday. If you don't know, vacuum boosters are too tall to fit in the stock location so AMC designed a bracket with a cantilever rod to lower the booster enough to fit under the hood. I also got most of the steering back together. The stabilizer will also be here Tuesday. Lots of little nit picky things to finish. I'm mostly done under the dash. Just have a handful of things to onock out. I may actually be able to fire it up next weekend.

This. Finding those people and getting the engine to them can be a challenge. www.ifsja.org and www.fsjnetwork.com are two good places to find buyers.
