Name this 4.0 Part
WranglerMangler replied to 87 MJ Chief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Buy 2 of these kits, they’re about $5ea. It’s for your oil filter adapter, use one kit to reseal your oil filter adapter and use the O ring from the other kit that fits for your OPDA. (Oil Pump Drive Assembly.)To re seal the OPDA. I purchased the O ring that Cruiser54 suggested from NAPA but found the one in this kit to fit better. This is regarding a ‘91 HO. Assuming the diameter of the ‘91 distributor and the 2000 OPDA are the same. I have also had Oil pressure sending units just randomly start leaking from the threads and out of the side of the sending unit body. Check that too. And always grab them from the Junkyard when you see them, Napa is really proud of their oil pressure sending units for my ‘91. -

Project: “Comanche Limited”

Like WJ front lower control arms or WJ knuckle swap parts. I’ve heard the stock WJ steering is made of .120 wall DOM so I always like to grab those for little projects. ZJ rear coil springs for lowering the front 95-03 4 door blazer rear sway bars apparently work for rear Comanche sway bars. Just off the top of my head -

That’s some dedication to the 21 slot look! There should be a section dedicated to things to grab at the junkyard off specific vehicles. Comanche section of Comanche specific parts. Wagoneer section of the “goodies” to grab. I know they’re more likely to have a rear D44, I would like to see the list of Wagoneer parts to swap over typed out. Just a thought -

What’s up with the 21 slot grill? Is it a special year or edition? Are they rare? See one at the Junkyard get it? -
Did the OP ever find a solution to his slow wipers? What was it? Can you swap in a newer XJ wiper motor? so many unanswered questions.

Out cruising CommuteChe today, going after some OfferUp Jeep parts, I just happened to drive past another Comanche sitting in its yard. I went about a block away, completed my OfferUp transaction and on the way back by, decided I was going to stop and knock on the door. I was met by an awesome guy named Mitch. He invited me in and we talked about Jeeps and life for about an hour. Turns out, he is the original owner of the Comanche. I almost didn’t stop and knock but am now very glad that I took the time to make a new friend. I offered to help him with any future maintenance or mechanical issues. I hope he calls me. Still on the road, he did say that the truck did not come with a radio, and it has the factory block off plate still. 1988, LWB, 4.0, BA10/5, 4WD, tan interior, D30/D35. 200k mi

Do have the original 1988 owners manual as well. Not in the best shape of her life but glad to have it.

I know there’s a dedicated post for brochures and literature, but My awesome wife just got me this for Christmas and I’m showing it off! I’m pretty stoked on it. Let me know if I need to take any better or closer pictures for you

Who says XJ tail lights won’t work in an MJ?
-
1988, 2.5, 5 speed, pioneer, just purchased by my friend. Decently clean little truck, some cancer on driver’s side floor.

That’s a good looking Comanche! Get her back on the road!

Awesome. Thank you for sharing. Wish I knew about them for the last two years I was working in Bremerton. Lol. Now I’m working in Lacey. Will have to venture back out there. -

Wow, those before and after pictures sure are night and day. What a great job you did on the interior and under the hood. Cool story behind the truck too. Imagine those 36,000 miles are about equal to 100,000 miles in hours with all the back and forth plowing? Good find. Glad to see she is getting the love and respect these awesome trucks deserve. -

What yard it this? I’m in Western Wa. -
Me and My Comanches dream of a warm shop. Lol. Never take that for granted. Going to go grab the rear slider window out of the red MJ in post falls. And see what else he has. Looking for anything off it?
-
No problem I did forget one important thing tho. Coolant overflow bottle. Napa #7304514 (courtesy of Airborne Janitor) Yeah, it’s a crazy world we live in these days. I’ve just slowly been adding to the story on my original post. Doesn’t get much more exciting. Lol.
-
Just saw this one today in Lacey Wa. Sorry for the crappy picture. I was so excited to see it that I literally yelled out to myself ”It’s a Comanche!!!” Then thought to take the picture. He recognized another MJ too. Possibly a member?
-
Thanks Airborne. Yeah, it was a crazy time. Lol. I’ve lived in Western Washington all my life and have definitely seen a dramatic change in the last 10 or 15 years. I don’t even consider my hometown home any more. It’s not the place I grew up. I have been over in your neck of the woods recently in both of my running Comanches. Kept an eye out for the Comanche that’s all one blue if you squint hard enough. Never did see you. But I’ll actually be back over this weekend (post falls) for none other than some Comanche parts.

Project “CommuteChe”
WranglerMangler replied to WranglerMangler's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thank you SCGuy, it’s a slow but gradual progression as I’m sure you know. -
Thanks Big Mark, I’ve been around for a little while now. Glad to meet another PNW Comanche owner as well. The picture above in front of the semi truck is the most un modified picture by me I have. At that point I have only changed the wheels and tires. My other nickname for Minche is “the little Billy goat” because of her low center of gravity. I can turn around on hills that make Wrangler owners pucker up to say the least. Lol. check out CommuteChe to see how those heater hoses look. They are long enough to be used without the heater control valve. I cut them down. Part numbers you were asking about. FlowKooler Hi-Flow Mechanical Water Pump: 1747. Napa Radiator: Part #: RNR NR1193A (Radiator for 91’ HO) Lower radiator hose: Napa P# 8333 Upper radiator hose (AC hose): Napa P# 8334 Heater hose: Napa P# 10768 x2 (x3 if you have the vacuum heater control valve. They’re for a newer XJ but look much better IMO
