Me and another local AZ member think the same thing as we knew Fran pretty well. But I am relieved to see and hear it is in great hands once again.

The one I found on my 84. I am damn sure this is for the 2.1L.

Also I think you can just scrub the failing clear off and still run the filter and be fine.

Maybe I will pull out my cluster collection and document the different filters that can be had with the clusters.

2.8L's and 2.1L TD computer's also had this ability as well. We just don't get alot of 2.8L guys still running original equipment and TDs. Also what bugs me about this filter is the bezel is for the older 84-86 clusters that used two screws to hold the filter and bezel in place. So if it is an HO filter, it has been swapped around but I have seen some filters with antilock, meaning AMC was having hopes for having a piece of safety equipment in the future and kept the lettering there orrrr there was a very early style we don't know about that was used on say the XJs.

2.8L 84-86 Instrument cluster info center filter. I think lock delt with 4wd like that was the Lo indicator and 4wd light was just 4wd part time is engaged 86-90 Renix Era filter for the info center.

If it is an absolute original truck with no repaints or anything, I can see someone special ordering say a sporTruck or Pioneer or any of those trims and not get the decals with them. Much how like we have seen original 86's with no decals. I would be willing to bet someone liked that style much better and asked for no decals on their Pioneer or sporTruck.

I think I have an early HO evap in my MJ. Works great. If you’re moving from R12 to R134, I found a bulletin from Chrysler on the amount you need in an old R12 set up to R134. Pretty helpful. I think I’m using a hodgepodge of Renix and HO parts. Even the condenser I got was a NOS one and said R134 ready.

Oh I more or less used a scrub brush and some soap on plastics that weren’t covered. The material for the doors and what not I left alone due to aging and disintegration of the material. Like I said. I cleaned it so it wouldn’t have any funny smells and not be dusty but didn’t get to do a restoration like I wanted to. I took mine almost all the way down, if I could remove it without drilling something out to remove a part, it came off. Seems rust on the metal bits is going to be normal though.

Yeah I need to get back into finding more of those MJs. It would give us an accurate number for how many were produced per year

I tore mine down to get it really cleaned out. Wish I had some insulation material to make heating and cooling a bit better. But too late now.

That makes me think that there’s something sticky in the EGR causing it to stick open until it warms up. If you get a morning where it starts up fine, try to open the EGR manually and see if it sticks. If it does then we can suspect a sticky EGR or the solenoid is failing.

So it sounds like the EGR is getting stuck open when it shouldn’t be at all. Normal idle, EGR should be off and idle should be smooth. EGR on, idle will be rough. You can always test this idea yourself by pushing up on the EGR diaphragm at idle. The EGR is controlled by a solenoid that’s be the charcoal canister on the passenger side fender.
