HELL CREEK SPRINGS
Catatonic Comanche replied to 1999MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Uhm...one more thing! I need DANA-44 U-bolt hardware for the fatter axle that I will be using. Does Motion also have that? Thanks! Paul -
HELL CREEK SPRINGS
Catatonic Comanche replied to 1999MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Now that I recall, the RE guys did mention the XJ's wheelbase issue possibly not being an issue for my shortbox MJ. My situation is that I currently have all of the OEM factory parts (DANA 44/3.55 MJ axle and OEM driveshaft for a shortbox MJ DANA-44/3.55 option application) and I want to safely clear 32" tires without competing for an altitude record. I am fully aware that the XJ rear AALs will not work on my MJ rear and was considering the RE 4.5 XJ kit for the front and Motion 4.5 leafs for the rear. Seeing is believing and I am quite impressed that Motion is on this website not only providing valuable advice, but providing it fairly not to just choose their own products. I really like Motion's involvement amongst us MJ commoners and have decided to go with their product for both axles all the way around! I like the way Motion does business! I humbly thank all of you for the valuable advice I have learned and hope to someday post my own project as it progresses. I have a great starter MJ at the present, but am currently repairing the rust issues of an MJ that originally sold and had suffered the road-salt of many northern-Atlantic winters. The rust can no longer wait and I have launched an aggressive campaign to exterminate it accordingly! I am going with Motion's 4.5" lift all around! Paul -

Thanks for the info. It looks as if I am going to have to SPRING for the 4.5" lift! ...suspension humor...hehehe! So...is the RE's 4.5" lift better than Motion's? There is a scary message on the RE wesite concerning having to purchase additional items to make the kit fit: That is a message that does not appear on Motion's website. Thanks again! Paul -

Besides all of that, I have a DANA 44 out of a salvaged MJ that was equipped with the Metric Ton Package and that means I do not have to worry about any welding or emergency brake issues if I keep it under! Paul -

In the beginning, I was dead-set on the SOA conversion in the rear, but the aftermarket suspension industry has really stepped-up to the plate to deliver some very high-quality spring-packs; quality enough to change my mind to keep it under! I was sort of hoping to run 32x11.50 BFG/MTs on the stock alloys. Would your lift accomodate 32s? V/R  -

What size tires are you running, Brent? I assume your 3.5 RE Kit that lifted your front is the one that RE advertises for use in the XJ? You have a nice lift that is just right in my humble opinion! Paul -

That is a nice starter rig, Erik! Thanks for posting and please keep us informed whenever you make an upgrade. I assume the four toggles above the shifter on your center console control the four offroad lights in front of your grill. Anyway, nice rig and you got a great deal! V/R CC :driving: -
I had a 68 Stang in my youth. At the time, I had to part with her for reasons of financial practicality. I miss her and regret the sacrifice now that I am older and more the wize. I hope she is in good hands this eve...wherever she might be...

Wrenches Gone Wild!!!

Two reasons, one there is a small dent where something slid forward in the bed. It's still functional, but I have to pull it to fix the dent under the window. and two, I'm stealing this idea from someone that posted it up on here. http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPages/ ... ml?Origin= http://www.trucknvans.com/Truck_T_Slide ... _s/815.htm Looking at the POWR version. You might want to check on that to be certain that it exists. I was told that only the three-glass manual slider is really all that they sell in spite of what the website states. Also, BEWARE of aftermarket sliders. I ordered a new 4-glass aftermarket slider off of e-Bay (not certain, but it might have been the same aftermarket company) and it turned out to be crap. The contours did not fit the natural contour of the Comanche's sloped jam...sort of like your experience with the parts from RRO. I cannot speak for the three-glass model, but the sliders on the four-glass model that I purchased from e-Bay were very loose and wobbley when they were open...not a good part at all. Don't discard your factory slider until you know for certain that the aftermarket slider fits as well or better than your OEM part. I am very thankful that I did not trash mine before learning that the aftermarket slider was garbage. I ended up ordering a new OEM rear window seal and re-installing the original slider. Please keep us informed if your aftermarket slider is of a quality make. Also, your rebuild is awesome! I am proud to know that you reside here in the Commonwealth! Sic Semper Tyrannis! CC -

OMG! Fed-Ex called me this very morning asking directions to my mountain lair! I gave them directions and left for work. This evening, I returned home from work and my MJ rear sliding-glass replacement window had still not been delivered! :headpop: It had BETTER be here tomorrow! :headpop: RaaaR!!! :wall:

Amen on that pingpong! Actually from what I have seen over all the MJ years of existance, the AT shifter on the column was much more popular than finding it on the floor. I have witnessed many more AT column-shifts with bench seats than AT floor shifts. It would appear that the AT floor shift was just Jeep's way of being sporty!

My 92 SWB MJ Eliminator has all that, i.e., AT shifter on the floor with full console. I cannot vouch for the older years, but here is how it worked in 1992 (last year produced) for 2WD & 4WD MJ modals: MJ Style-----------------Console Type-----Optional/Standard/Not Available ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Base----------------------Mini Only---------------------Standard Sport SWB/LWB---------Mini Only---------------------Standard Pioneer SWB/LWB-------Mini/Full----------------------Standard/Optional Eliminator SWB Only----Full Only----------------------Standard

...not much of a Comanche issue, but I do get warm fuzzies everytime I see his dead face on the news! I was in the US Army from 1988-1994. God, what a thrill that pilot must have experienced when he delivered the kill-shot! :USAflag: :Canadaflag:

Couple Questions
Catatonic Comanche replied to sinnaevd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am in Virginia, but my 1992 Comanche was originally purchased in upper-state New York. Anyway, I never changed the original factory 3.54 ratio when swapping the 35-C with that 1991 MJ DANA-44 which was also geared at 3.54. All I did was purchase the stocker 4.0-DANA-44-shortbox-3.54 driveshaft from the Jeep parts department and it was a direct plug & play. Even the factory axle u-bolts had universal holes for both the 35-C and DANA 44 axles... I am not certain, but I believe that the DANA 44 rear axle was no longer an option that could be added in 1992...
