  1. Swap the front clip and doors out for the 97+ one. Or sell it to one of us. :D
  2. You clearly don't know the jeep rule. "Don't just fix it, make it better"
  3. Heck....I took mine off the week I bought it. It now resides in my yard, waiting for someone to buy it off craigslist. If it doesn't sell soon. I'm gonna use the structure to make a rack of some sort
  4. HAHAHA goood question :rotfl2:
  5. ok first off, don't skip out on anything. take ZERO shortcuts, and take the time to prep it yourself then, like stated, id go with PPG brand paints. they make awesome BC/CC paints, as well as a relatively cheap single stage system but, as far as application goes, get some spare chunks of sheetmetal (biggger ones) and practice on those before even touching the CJ. lay them at various angles to get a feel for the overlap/application. I've been professionally painting for a few years now and his quote is about normal, but if you have any questions, feel freee to shoot me a PM. More than happy to help :smart:
  6. Here's a new one. While at the mickey d's drive up last night I noticed the engine sounded a little rough, so I turned the heat off to listen. It went away. Turn the heat back on and it sounds like crap again. Almost like its missing or misfiring. Any ideas?
  7. 4.0 + auto = 3.55 gears 4.0 + stick = 3.07 gears 2.5L + 4spd stick = 3.55 gears (usually) 2.5L + 5spd stick = 4.10 gears (usually) Woot! Thanks pete! I knew the guru would tell me!
  8. Might have the paperwork somewhere. But what do ya think is standard with an 87 4.0 auto? 35 rear
  9. Hahaha all this hype about michael jackson is what gave me the idea for my screen name! :rotf:
  10. Eh. I have a lot of computer nerd friends. I have more support than a victorias secret catalog
  11. Got my tax return yesterday, and within an hour of opeining my mailbox I went out and bought a new computer. Finally. No more blackberry posting for me. Its a sony Vaio. 4gigs of ram, 320 gig hard drive, fancy stuff! Now I can start posting pics of my little turd
  12. If you have any fiberglass skills, it shouldn't be extremely difficult, if not I'm sure some sheet metal/wood paneling with some fabric glued to it would be a cheap (maybe a little redneck) alternative
  13. Anything's better than the mondo elephant-ear chrom towing mirrors the PO bolted to my door skins....
  14. I do agree that the old wagoneer tails would look best. Hey, anything's possible with the right amount of welding wire and body filler. :D I might try to make some out of clear lexan, then spray them with VHT nightshade this summer. We'll see what happens
  15. You could try painting your rivets, just to put a barrier between the two metals. But personally, I'd use steel hardware
  16. I don't know where in SD you were, but I've lived there my entire life and have never seen 85 octane, unless of course you meant E85. As far as ethenol goes, its only a slight additive in our 87 octane here. Everything else is good ole petrol. I've been running the partial ethenol 87 in my past 3 vehicles. I don't notice any problems with it
  17. Yeah, they have bumpers, but not factory replacements. They have the Fey universal step bumpers. Better than nothing ... but not much better. They're pretty ugly. I have a Fey. They are ugly. Much better than a 2x4 though. I feel you there. My front bumper is a 2x4 and my back bumper is a homemade job. Pretty ugly. The PO said hed give me a call after the snow melted. Said the front bumper might be buried behind his shed
  18. Just got the new jcwhitney catalog. Says they have em for mj's
  19. Alas...I have not yet mastered the...uh...redneck paintjob :rotf:
  20. It doesn't matter how well ya clean it, if it isn't scuffed/sanded, it isn't gonna stick. Ok let me rephrase that. It isn't going to stick WELL. It will rub off, it will fall off, and most importantly, if you have any rust down there, you're only gonna cause more problems by covering it with paint. sure you can use reducer or thinner to clean stuff, but I'd recommend an automotive wax and grease remover. Thinner and reducer can leave behind a film that can cause problems with adhesion. That's as far as paint is concerned. Just for taking grease off, use whatever ya want, just test it on a small area first to see if its gonna affect your paint
  21. As a rule, you do have to throw flattening base in your clear. So most shops will probably do just that. However there are a variety of flat single stage paints out there. Absolutley do not just have the basecoat sprayed on. Like you said all your protection comes in your clear. Any more ?s lemme know
  22. So I can use any DD from an xj? Or just HO ones? I'm confused
  23. Wait so the gen II booster changes the position of the pedal? Cuz right now my brake pedal sits a lot higher than the gas and that is annoying!
  24. The whole booster?? Sound pricey...
  25. Does the brake booster always have a vacuum sound to it? What I mean to say is, do all mj's have the hissing noise by your feet, that goes away when the brake pedal is pressed? Or do I have a major vacuum leak. This is not the first jeep I've had this with, we had one at the body shop do the same thing. And my '90 XJ did it too. But that thing needed work :dunno:
