I agree. Personally, I would avoid adapters even with modified sheet metal, flares, etc. I have them on my trailer (had to) and I constantly check to ensure they are properly torqued. Just my opinion but that's a hassle I wouldn't want to go through on a road vehicle.

I like the 10 spokes. I bought a new XJ Laredo in 1990 and specifically wanted that wheel. The XJ Limited was the top of the line then but I went with a black Laredo. I really didn't like all of the "gold" on the Limited including the wheels which I did NOT like. I joked with the salesman and said the Limited kind of looked like a pimpmobile - my opinion but I think he'd heard it before (lol). Ironically I now have an '89 Limited 2 dr. The previous owner removed all of the gold accents ... which is exactly what I would have done!

That's correct. I have TJ MOAB wheels on my XJ, TJ, LJ and off road trailer and they fit fine. I'm about to put them on my MJ too. I've stocked up on them - currently have 30. They are easy wheels to restore. I basically blast and paint which I find easier that polishing aluminum wheels. I'm not as familiar with the JK MOAB wheels or if they're even called that. They are 5x5" so adapters are needed. They come in 17" dia. (not sure about 16") but they are generally flat, not dished like the TJ wheels.

Jeep TJ MOAB wheels pictured above (lower one) are 16"x8" with a 5x4.5" bolt pattern and 5" back space ... and look great on an MJ!

Yah I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. The Leafs do have one thing though that no other team in the league has and that they never will have. It's a black & white photo of their last Stanley Cup win! btw ... long suffering fan here.

We've had the metric system since the early '70s. I've mastered most measurements but I still have a problem with temperatures. This helps a bit ...

I'm with Dzimm on this. I usually go to NAPA for this kind of thing and I've never had any issues. I'm not saying their parts match MOPAR but I do know that they've never let me down.

I'd go for "sun rot" too. I try to look on the bright side though. Our climate - and salty roads - have made me a better welder. I notice that you have a dashboard carpet. I had never seen one before but I got one with an '89 XJ that I recently bought. I have a piece that covers the glove box door too. My guess is that they are to protect from sun damage but that's not a big problem up here. We don't get a lot of "sun rot". Have fun with your new project!

That's a good idea. I'm going to chrome my clip!

That's good advice. I "locked in" on DeWalt 20V tools. Lots of others are good too. I had a few different brands before that and although they were good tools using different ones drove me nuts. Too many batteries, too many chargers and too much walking back and forth to get what I needed. Storage was a big problem too. I use an old DeWalt storage case for my batteries and charger. It sits on top of one of my tool chests along with the tools. I can access them quickly or take the whole thing to where I'm working if I want to. The batteries are numbered and are in constant circulation.

Nice battery set up. I'm surprised to see that your hood prop rod plastic clip is in good shape. The ones on my '88 MJ & '89 XJ were both broken so I replaced them with metal ones from newer XJ's. Hood struts would of course solve that problem.

A similar thing happened to me. I bought a new Cherokee Laredo in 1990. After 5 years and about 250,000 km the ABS packed it in. The repair cost just under $3,000 (CDN). That was almost 10% of what the Jeep cost! I didn't keep it for much longer but I've always wondered where it is.

Nice work. This thing is going to be far from "plain".
-
Not exactly "playing" but I put it to work. If I had a long box I would have got a larger tree!

My '88 Eliminator ... And here it is with the rest of my fleet ... '03 TJ, '95 XJ 2 dr. & '04 LJ ...

Comanche Trailhawk: DD and Mild Wheeler

I'm with you. I'd build one long before I'd pay $50+! Thanks for the lead on the flasher. It's odd that Amazon won't ship that to Canada. I'm sure I can pick one up at NAPA now that I know what I'm looking for. Your truck is looking great. It's come a long way! -
I kind of take the opposite view. I used to restore British sports cars (mostly '50s & '60s MG's & Triumphs) and often put on the a badge of a dealership that in most cases is long gone. Some of the badges were harder to restore than parts of the car! Many dealerships have a history (good or bad) that is interesting to locals. Some had a connection to racing that was known to a larger group of enthusiasts. Some of them were good conversation starters. In 1990 I bought a Cherokee from Bannerman Motors in Toronto. I sold that one years ago. In 2010 I bought a '95 Cherokee. It came with the original owner's manual and it also came from Bannerman Motors. I stumbled across a Bannerman badge for a few bucks at a flea market and it's now on the tailgate of my Cherokee. The dealership that sold my '88 Comanche no longer exists. If any one comes across an Orillia Jeep/Eagle badge ... let me know! I always look when I go to flea markets. lol

That turned out great! I see what you mean about locating the licence plate. I have JCR bumpers on the front and back of my XJ. The back plate is no problem of course (goes on the tailgate). On the front I have a plastic panel that holds the plate and goes into the receiver. If I want to tow or push from the front I simply take it out. You could do the same on the back and temporarily hang your licence plate from the bumper when you tow something. It's like this one but plastic ... and only cost $3! http://www.autoanything.com/towing/69A4566A0A0.aspx Question about the flasher you used - do you have brand and part# or even a description of what it's for? I'm assuming there isn't a listing for MJ's. -
Kind of looks like my MJ ... which has never been kept in a garage.

Looks great coolwind57. I plan to remove my bed liner and coat my bed next summer. I like Line-X but want something I can apply myself for touch ups and future modifications. Monstaliner may be the way to go.
-
That turned out great. What did you use to apply it? EDIT ... I just read your other post in another thread and see that you rolled it on.

It's fascinating to see the prices of MJ's in a wide range of conditions. It's hard to compare but I'm going to say that MJ's in Canada seem to go for less money. I'm sure there aren't as nearly as many here but with a much smaller population the demand is no doubt less too. It probably balances out. My guess is that more of yours are in better condition (less rust) but still there are some good ones here. I don't mind saying that I paid $4,000 CDN in August 2017 for a very good, rust free complete original '88 MJ Eliminator in perfect running condition (2WD though). That would be about $3,000 US and, based on the above ads I wouldn't have got anything close to that in the US. I get daily Kijiji updates on Comanches (and other Jeeps). Some are priced way too high but the ones that are reasonable for what's being offered go quickly. Anyway, thanks for posting this Bonkers ... fascinating stuff!

I never considered getting a cap for my MJ ... until I saw the above pic!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I have JCR bumpers on my XJ and really like them. I can see the front being interchangeable but not the back. I'm thinking of fabricating a "look-a-like". The above pic alone gives me some good clues. -
This is an old post but I thought I'd bring it back to the top because it was a big help to me. I was planning to take my MJ into Krown Rustproofing yesterday. It's generally a good idea to have the underside washed so the "slime" they apply sticks better and doesn't trap in dirt, etc. I took it through a car wash. I've done this before with my other jeeps (XJ, TJ & LJ) and have never had a problem. Right away it wouldn't shift in to 2nd gear. I figured water might have got into the NSS (didn't think of the speed sensor). I never thought that water would make it all the way up to the TPS but that's what happened. Anyway, I replaced it and all is good. I'll go over the NSS and speed sensor too ... because I'm sure they'll be the next to go. Thanks for the tips!
