Power Steering Problems
nitroxsteve replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is the oil full of metal or is that air? Its very hard to tell from the photo. Does the pump make any strange sounds? -
Looks like a Softail Deluxe. I hope to be riding when I'm that age.

Thats the flux capacitor I pulled the one in my truck out because I like to drive faster than 88MPH. Or it could be what Eagle said.

I found out I had broken motor mounts when I accelerated hard one day and the fan hit the shroud. I had not replaced the shroud before I installed the new mounts so I don't know how close you will get to it but you definitely need to keep any eye on it. Good advice from carnuck.

Are you sure its a 4.3 and not a 2.8? I think the 4.3 and 350 use the same motor mounts. A long time ago I was involved in removing a Cutlas v6 (3.8 I think) and installing a v8. We reused the motor mounts and even the exhaust system was the same. The Y pipe attached to the v6 manifolds in the same spot as the v8. It may be easy it all depends on how the 4.3 was installed. Post some pictures I would like to see it.

This is not the best donor for your truck. The front axle is low pinion while that will work its not the most desirable. I don't know what it would take to make the transmission work in your truck but if you can't make it work the trans, tcase, front drive shaft, and shifter will be useless. You may be able to find a transmission to use with this t-case but you can buy a good t-case for less than $100.00 about anywhere.

yep it easy just don't get carried away with the jack and crunch your oil pan. trans mount is the same just use a Jack to get the weight off the mount.
-
I have "anchor" motor mounts in my truck never used the trans mount. Its a 4.0 not 2.5 not sure if that makes any difference or not. My mounts came from advanced and have done a good job for the last two years. They looked exactly like the stock mounts.

If I can't keep the original interior panel I'll just stick with the original doors I don't want to change the interior. -
97 Doors With Manual Windows
nitroxsteve replied to nitroxsteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Does SE designate manual windows? -
I am planning to paint my truck in the spring and beginning to round up parts. I am thinking of replacing the doors with 97+ doors and was wondering if the original interior panel will fit the newer door. Also I am keeping manual windows and I assume that the cranks will be in the same position. Is there any model doors that are better than the others? Thanks Everyone.

I was thinking the samething about the higher pressure units having a greater volume of air. I will be taking my time shopping for the tools so I can get as much for my money as possible. Thanks for the advice everyone.
-
I don't know if the shifter will improve it or not but I would try the shifter first then change the fluid. if you do them both at the same time we will never know what one fixed it or made it worse.
-
Thanks for the replies everyone, does anyone have any recommendations for air compressors? Will any of the 5hp 20gal units be sufficient for these types of guns?
-
I also have no smilies on my screen. Haven't seen them in a long time. I figured it had something to do with using the android tablet.
-
The short one is probably for cruse control.
-
It has been along time since I sprayed any paint other than from a rattle can and I am thinking of picking up a gravity feed gun but I am not sure what to get. I see at least 3 or 4 different size nozzles I assume for different types of paint. Is there one good all around spray about anything gun? I will shoot primer and mostly single stage paint no clear coat for now. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Shimmy Into Death Wobble
nitroxsteve replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Anything loose or worn can cause it your just going to have look around. I assume the tires were ballanced when the rims were changed. And you are the first person I have ever heard of driving out of a death wobble. Most people mess up their pants while trying to get stopped. LOL -
I put some lucas power steering stop leak in my truck about a year ago and it is working great the pump is even quieter.
-
I am running 10w40 in both my transmission and transfer case for a couple years now with no problems. Shifts better than when I was running 75/90.
-
I have the wet okole on my MJbench seat and it fits great. They are a couple years old now and in perfect shape. I have postid pictures of them on here before but if you want more I can repost. I was more concerned with the material fading from the sun but they are holding their color very well.

nitroxsteve replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it sounds like it my be a bearing. definitely check the fluid. does it make the noise in neutral with the clutch engaged? and does it do it in every gear? -
