Will keep a look out for it. It may have been brought up to LA. What color is it and are there any other external unique markings?

I have GEICO and just called them to confirm my coverage after reading this thread. Basically they said that I am only covered for the "blue book" value of the vehicle, which I just looked up to be only around $2,500 or maybe less if someone else is at fault and their company wanted to be cheap. My truck is easily worth $5K, but I wouldn't sell it (for all the tea in China) for less than $7K. Is anyone getting coverage up to their actual worth with GEICO?

Heater control valve, again...

After some trial and error, I ended up using these hoses from Amazon. They worked well. Gates 19039 (trimmed about an inch off the T-stat side) Gates 19038 -
https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/1991-jeep-truck-comanche-rare/6701394233.html If I was in a position to buy, I would probably take a road trip and have a look. I've been dreaming of a 4x4 HO project. My '91 is a way stock 2wd DD. There is a lot of junk thrown in, not sure about the asking price $4K. The black topper alone (if in good condition) is probably worth what.... $400 ? Looks like a CA find, maybe no rust. Lousy pics though.

BFG's almost always make a vehicle look better... Nice truck. Congrats on the purchase. -
I just noticed the milkshake color of the oil and wondered what the effect would be of running the gears in a vacuum. While it doesn't make any practical sense, sometimes ideas can lead to other insights that have real achievable positive results. Maybe it's a rabbit hole though. This testing will probably state the obvious at this point, that the manufacturers have researched the capacity/design and have it correct from the factory --- adding more doesn't necessarily give better results. But I guess we'll see.

No flopping for me. Will order. Thanks. -
Heater control valve, again...

Awesome. Just doing it! -
I’m all pleased with myself, getting the new water pump on, when I notice I busted the HCV taking the heater hose off. Is the delete really as easy as running two ‘97 XJ hoses and plugging the vacuum line on the ‘91 4.0 HO? Thanks.

4.0 HO Water pump replacement
Motorhead X replied to Motorhead X's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Excellent instructions for this job. Thanks. I thought the threads looked tapered! I’ll give it another go without trying to get the pipe on all the way. Strange how the old pipe was installed all the way down to its base. It made me think I was doing something incorrect. Maybe the old pump was threaded differently. -
4.0 HO Water pump replacement

Help... I purchased a replacement inlet tube for the new Mopar water pump, but right away it didn't seem happy going on, so I didn't force it. I pulled the old inlet tube off the old water pump, cleaned it up a bit, wrapped a little teflon tape on the threads, but it wouldn't go on easy either. I decided to go for it, but it will not screw all the way on, leaving about three threads worth remaining. I took it back off. Anyone had troubles with the Mopar water pump inlet threads? Or maybe I'm just the lucky one... that needs He-man to tighten this thing on. Thanks in advance. -bnn -
Cool project. Looking forward to the turbo!

Surprised at the amount of aeration in this test. Would it make any difference to operate in a vacuum? All that air in the oil could be reducing its viscosity.

Engineering and science are awesome when you combine it with trucks and other fun stuff. Seems like the guy has a good set of ideals as well to go with those smarts.

4.0 HO Water pump replacement
Motorhead X replied to Motorhead X's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, there are two bolts for the power steering pump which I will unbolt and then move the pump over to where the air box sits (I did this before once when I replaced the exhaust manifold). I figure the Idler pulley will need to come off too. I am hoping there is enough room to do all this without removing the radiator, but I might decide to do it anyway... -
Your opinion will be highly appreciated

Maybe put the early money into the 90 for the street and throw a tarp over the 92 (after clearing out the moldy interior). Do bits and pieces of 4x4 work over time so the $ isn't a big lump at once to keep the wife happy. -
Woke up to a drip at the connection for the lower radiator hose yesterday. At first I thought it was just the hose, but after replacing it there is still the same 10 second drip that seems to be originating at the water pump and traveling somewhat downhill. It also overheated very quickly after refilling the radiator and starting it up. This was the first time I have ever seen the idiot light go off. Jeep dealer quoted me $105 for a Mopar replacement pump. Is there an equivalent off brand pump for cheaper I should consider? I read a lot of posts here and watched a bunch of Youtubes. Any chance of not removing the radiator, fan blade and T-stat housing? It took me three tries earlier this year to seal the T-stat housing. Any other wisdom is appreciated... Thanks...

Hey Dzimm, I ran across your post from a while back while researching turbos. Did you ever get the 4.0 turbo worked out? I watched an informative video recently from Gale Banks. A lot of the video is his own personal history with turbos, but I did learn a lot from it.

Two thumbs up. Way up!

Update. I spent the last few weeks moving my Dad from Georgia into a good facility in New York. The doctor's upped his meds and it has seemed to help a little. At least he lives near his sister now, so we have a reliable family member to help him when needed. It was a good trip overall and I'm relieved to have it completed. A great benefit from the whole experience was getting to see my some of my Aunts, Uncles and cousins for the first time in over 20 years. Since I have always traveled to see my immediate family (Mom, Dad and brothers) living in NC, GA, NM and ME... I rarely ever see the family in NY which is where most my Dad's side lives. It was like a homecoming of sorts. My Aunt made it feel a lot like home, and now when I visit my Dad I can see everyone. They are really nice, genuine people and I enjoyed spending time with them. So I'm back in Los Angeles and attempting for the third time to get my thermostat housing to seal properly today. All is as it should be. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and I hope you all get a chance to spend Thanksgiving with family that you actually like. And if not, well, there's probably some work to do on the Comanche and a cold (or hot) drink with your name on it. If I could buy one for everyone, I would. -Bluenotenick

I have been thinking about this topic too because the outside air is pretty bad when I'm stuck in traffic. Is there supposed to be a recirculate only setting? In my experience, even with the A/C on, I seem to be getting exhaust into the cab from the vehicle in front of me.

Did you ever get the bogging problem figured out?
