I went and read the emissions label on my old 88 Comanche. It doesn’t state obd at all. It has efi h20, egr, twc. So it is obd1 exempted. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

87 that is definitely Renix OBD1 with no dtc’s or check engine light. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don’t know what year your truck is but most likely no. The generic scanners they sell at the parts store are for obd2. That came in 96. You can find some with the adapters for some obd1. I have never found Renix Jeep. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

91 is when they got Chrysler OBD1. The early ones used Renix obd1 with an exemption for the check engine light and no dtc’s. They did have a double connector under the hood. There was a special scan tool that would do specific tests and then give a fault code. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help Identifying front/ rear diff
jeeptec1 replied to marcial88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They are decent if you have the 1 piece axles. Most AMC 20’s have a splined taper axle. That’s the weak point. They do have a bigger ring gear than a Dana 35 and I think a 44. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Help Identifying front/ rear diff
jeeptec1 replied to marcial88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Front is a Dana 30. Rear is an AMC model 20. Yours must be an 86! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
The elusive 3.73 gears. All my years of working on Jeeps at the dealership and owning I have never seen 3.73 in an MJ. I’ve had people say yes I have 3.73 in my Comanche or Cherokee . I run there vin on the Chrysler VIP system and check there options list. 3.07. Sorry. My experience with both MJ and XJ 2.5 L4 and 2.8 V6= 4.10. 4.0 manual trans 3.07 gears. 4.0 automatic 3.55 gears. I’ve seen a couple of manual trans vehicles with 3.55 very rare special order. I believe the parts catalog does show 3.73 . I’d have to verify at work tomorrow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Model 35. (Dana 35) should have 3.07 with a 5 speed. The tag is unreadable in the picture. Automatic trucks normally came with 3.55/3.54 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Upper Control Arm Bushings
jeeptec1 replied to Rooster92's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The bushing are pressed in. I’ve used an air hammer to remove the old ones and made a tool using a small piece of pipe 2 flat plates with a center hole and a long nut and bolt and pressed them in. Also a ball joint press tool will work too. You can rent those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Experience with 180* thermostat with 4.0L
jeeptec1 replied to Gjeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My experience is the heater doesn’t have as much heat as with a 195. A Renix area seems to run ok. The Chrysler area seem to run a little rich and have had one that caused a check engine light for a thermostat Code. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Steering Box Brace/Spacer
jeeptec1 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes , someone must have replaced the steering box found it was either broken or left it out. Get one of the aftermarket ones they help stiffen up that frame a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Head bolts for 1989 Comanche?
jeeptec1 replied to 88ComancheGA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did a quick search on my NAPA auto parts app and shows they do have a listing for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Make sure your frame isn’t cracked. I had one Comanche that the frame cracked around the steering box mounting holes. Also common is the track bar wears out and pops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1988 Comanche fuel pump/ sending unit
jeeptec1 replied to Andrew miller's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had my sending unit rebuilt by tristar radiator in New York. It takes about a month to get rebuilt. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I was installing my Dirt bound Offroad steering box spacer/ brace. I pulled out the old one. Low and behold NOT broken. All of other MJ’s or XJ’s have broken right after lifting and putting on bigger tires. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

No brake lights after power booster up grade

If you rotate the switch on the rod end the lights come on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
88 Comanche, I did the power booster upgrade today. I drilled out the hole on the booster rod as instructed on all the forums. I ground the booster rod end flat. As i push the brake pedal it doesn’t move the brake switch. It’s supposed to rotate slightly to turn on the brake lights. I saw in another forum someone used a painless 4 terminal universal switch as they had the same issue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
