  1. First, thank you all for the help so far. I almost have it cranked, have good electrical, good fuel flow, just missing spark and final turn over. But I am getting close. So I am using parts from an 88 4WD to get a 87 2WD running. With future state of converting 87 to 4WD. My question today is sensors. (Note: I believe the 88 has an 89 engine in it based on all the stamps). The 88/89 on Driver Side has knock sensor, oxygen sensor, and temp sensor all near each other that plug right into harness. The 87, different story, not sure where Knock sensor plugs in, and temp sensor might be on Passenger Side, rear, near transmission bellhouse? The two pictures below. First is what is left of 1987 sensor from passenger side rear of engine. can't tell if it whats left of temp sensor or something else? But certainly broken. The second picture is the Knock Sensor and Temp sensor from 88/89 donor truck. Where on my 87 are the knock sensor and temp sensor supposed to be located on the engine? THANK YOU!
  2. Both of my Comanches (87 and 88) have the CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) hanging from bellhouse of transmission. But I have no real idea what it connects to? There is a two wire 3 prong connector (same as in picture below) Any direction as to what wiring harness this connects to, or what I should be looking for? Thank you.
  3. Thank you. Both are Manual 5 speed 4.0 I6. So would make sense that this sensor is sitting unused on both trucks. Thank you for the information.
  4. Guys, hopefully you can see the image i pasted below. Where does this sensor plug in? I have two comanches, and both have this sensor and its just sitting unplugged. Its part of the injector harness. Its has 4 prongs and I can't locate a sensible solution for where it plugs into or what it does. Anyone know anything about this sensor? Thank you.
  5. Looks like both rear ends are identical. I attached a picture of both rear end tags. Both are Dana 35C with 3.08 gear ratio as both have 4.0 IL6 with 5 speed manual gear boxes. And I know over time someone could have messed with the gears, but overall everything looks very stock on both vehicles. Based on the rear tags, any concerns or items to look out for as I make the swap? Thank you for the feedback.
  6. Hello. Here are answers to the questions. Thanks for the help. The 4WD has the following Rear is Dana 35 (42968) dated 02/24/87 Front Dana 30 (40869) dated 07/24/85 The 2WD has the following Dana 35 (42106) Dated 11/15/85 Both beds are the same, 6 ft short bed. Both are manual 5 speed trans Overall seems to be the parts are interchangeable? Any thoughts or concerns?
  7. I have two MJ's. Both Renix 4.0 engines. Both appear to be fully stock. The 88 4WD is rough body and some floor rust, but has good engine, trans, transfer, and axles. The 87 2WD has great body with no rust and only minor body damage and sold interior, not sure about engine at the moment. My plan, move all the 4WD components from 88 4WD to 87 2WD. My main question, why do i have to change out transmission? What is the main difference between the two trans? Also, since this will be my first swap, what are major pitfalls to look out for while doing this? I found some old discussions on this topic, from years ago, wanted to see if there was any new tips or tricks? Thank you for any help offered.
  8. Hello, Where could I find correct head bolts for 1988/1989 Comanche? Here is what I know so far about the engine, and when I bought it the head bolts had been removed. I am trying to source some headbolts online, and its been a challenge. Looking for advice on best place to purchase the correct bolts. Thank you. Renix 2686 Head stamped 89 in center in large bold My block reads 53005535 on driver side of block in bold numbers Behind that on driver side near firewall of block, date of 6-10-89 The tag on passenger side near distributor, as best I can read says 6MX2I (that and I, as in India)
  9. Thanks for the feedback. I found a place down near Savannah, GA, about 3 hour drive from me. They have several beds and tailgates in decent shape. I am going to go down there next week and see if i can find what I need. Thank you.
  10. Hello. I ran my carfax on the VIN. Says its a 1988 as I assumed. But I think my engine was swapped out somewhere around 2006 as the mileage has moved around over the years. I am trying to determine if this is the original engine for this truck? As well as making sure i order right parts as I put it back together. Here is what I know. The Head reads 2686 with a large 89 on the top in the middle The block reads 53005535 on driver side front. The block reads 6-10-89 on driver side near firewall. So all signs are leading to an 89 engine in a 88 Comanche? The tag on the passenger side near distributor is almost unreadable, as best i can make out is only 6MX2I Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  11. Hello, just bought a 88 Comanche Short Bed to restore and put back on the road. The current bed is in poor condition with no tailgate. Hoping to locate a bed in fairly good condition and a tailgate. Hoping someone might have some suggestions? Thank you.
