Searched, but no luck, Renix injector upgrade?
Hippie66 replied to Hippie66's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, very pleased so far. Easily pulls hills in 4th that required 3rd before. Some hills on the highway used to drop to 65 mph, now pull easily at 80. -

First full tank after installing the 746 injectors, right at 16 mpg average. This includes letting the truck idle to warm up for approx. 1 hour over the past 4 mornings. '89 4.0, AX-15 swapped, 2 wd, 31/10.50-15 AT tires. -
Astro van hydroboost brakes

Just curious what's wrong with the stock booster and master cylinder? I have no issues with my '89. -

4x4 Conversion with NP242. Clarification needed.
Hippie66 replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ran a 242 on my old XJ. Abused it hard enough to split the case once, still got me back home. Swapped in another 242 and wheeled it hard that night. -

My $67 set is out for delivery. Hopefully install them tomorrow. -
LOL, yes, slightly better. I've ran those boggers on my '68 Baja, it gets around pretty good. The Thing will do even better dye to the better gearing.

Dealing with rusty fasteners.
Hippie66 replied to cruiser54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure where it started, but my uncle worked power plants and they used it. A buddy heard about it from an old man, used it to remove a stuck splined brake drum on a VW when nothing else was working. I told an aircraft mechanic about it, he used it to save a $700 helicopter alternator pulley. -
I might as well join in and post my project. I picked up a good project VW Thing a few months ago. Always wanted one. Plans call for building it for offroad use. I've rewired it from scratch, added a 10 degree mount and VW Bus transaxle for strength and gearing. The stock Thing used 4.37 ring and pinion, the 3 rib bus transaxle is 5.38 and should work great with the 31/10.50-15 Boggers on the back. Front tires will be 237/75-15's. Also added disc brakes on the rear. Just about ready to modify the roll cage and install it. Hoping for a test run at Disney, Ok in March, 2017.

This works for pulleys stuck on shafts, stuck splines, etc as well. -

ZJ CV axleshafts swap
Hippie66 replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used to keep spare drivers front axle and spare u-joints, as well as a spare driveshaft for my old XJ. I replaced u-joints in front axles several times. The key is stopping as soon as they break. -
ZJ CV axleshafts swap
Hippie66 replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, I can understand that. I prefer u-joints for easy trail fix. The only CV's I want offroad are on my VW Thing. -
If you have the tank dropped, easy to install all the lines from the vents, then reinstall the tank, hooking up the hose to the metal line after the tank is back in. A side note, the grommets for the valves are cheap and good quality from Summit.
