The only place they will fit is in the center due to the metal reinforcements. -
If you have LeBaron hood vents...
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to possum's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I run them on several of our rigs without issues of getting water under the hood. I coated everything electrical with di-electric (sp?) grease just to be on the safe side though. If your really worried about it, make a set of drip pans for them... -

TPS Adjustment - http://www.greatlakesxj.com/tech/TPS.html -
We took the wife's XJ wheeling last weekend and about mid-day it started to "clunk" on left turns every once in awhile. I verified that I didn't bust a shaft and we wheeled the rest of the day without issues. It's now been a week and the clunk has somewhat gone away. It did however happen again this morning and I decided to take the diff cover off and inspect everything. With that being said, I'm not sure the clunk is even coming from the axle. It sounds/feels like something is binding and than lets loose. For all I know it's the crappy rear drums binding. I can not get it to happen by jacking up the axle and turning the tires, it's like it happens when either a) power is put to the axle and I'm turning, or B) weight is on that side. So anyways, I tore off the cover and found this. Admittedly I do not have a ton of time working on the Chrysler 8.25" axle and don't know a lot about it. I however have NEVER seen this inside of one. Everyone one I've seen is a 1 piece carrier with no springs/pressure plates. Is this the factory limited slip? The carrier looks to be a 2 piece carrier (I thought the factory limited slip still used a 1 piece carrier?). I don't see any markings on it giving me any idea if it's factory or aftermarket. What is it?

Oh; didn't know the trackbar was considered part of the steering. ;) As for the trackbar setup we're running; Rubicon Express HD Trackbar & Bracket Rubicon Express Trackbar Brace As for what will be for sale; it will be the tie-rod only. I sent you a PM in regards to it.

Hoodlouvers & Throttle bodies

TB spacer = Waist of money Here is a recent thread on them; http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... hp?t=10845 As for hood vents, I run LeBaron hood vents in my XJ and MJ with great results. -
It's the RE Chromoly Tie Rod kit. It'll actually be for sale shortly; as we've got a cross-over steering kit on order from Motion for her rig.

We took her XJ to the GreatLakesXJ.com Summer Fest this year. It did great as expected and the Maxxis Bighorn's dominated. I'm really happy with the way that the suspension is working with her current setup and the 33's. Some wheeling pics for your viewing enjoyment.

I've had my Motion Offroad C02 Tank for well over a year and absolutely love it. I however got tired of trying to figure out a way to mount it in the wife's XJ. So I broke down and ordered a tank mount. Here is the setup I'm running; Motion Offroad C02 Tank w/ Regulator - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... ducts_id=3 Motion Offroad C02 Tank Boot - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... ucts_id=37 Motion Offroad C02 Bracket - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... cts_id=463 We don't run the spare tire inside anymore (won't' fit) so that space is kinda useless. I opted to mount the bracket in basically the same spot that the tire used to mount in. I had to cut the little tab off that the tire hook than goes threw. Just did it with my Dremel and had it done in about 2 mins. I than mocked up the bracket with the tank mounted to make sure I could easily get the tank in/out. Marked the plastic, drilled the holes, and than removed the plastic from the side and drilled holes in the mounting attachment already there. Went to the hardware store and got some bolts and put it all back together. Here is a photo of the tank mount mounted in the wife's XJ. Overall very happy with the way it turned out. Also happy with the quality of both the tank and the bracket. The tank fits in the bracket very nicely and does not move around.

My wife had been asking for some sort of GPS for quite awhile now for her XJ. I have it in my XJ and she's always wanting me to take it out and put it in her's (can't cause it's hard wired and perminatly mounted). We had looked into new GPS units that we could swap between vehicles, but for what we wanted we were looking at $500+. So we had held off as it wasn't an immediate need (though she tried to convince me it was). I have a good friend, and fellow Jeeper who's a State Trooper and one day I rode with him in his squad car and he was running Microsoft Streets and Trips on his laptop. I had seen this program before but never had the opportunity to play with it. After about 10 mins I was hooked and decided that this was what we were going to do. Retail is $99 on it with the GPS receiver (not badly priced if you ask me). We went with Streets and Trips 2008. Everyone I read online said it only works with Vista, but I checked the box prior at a store and it says it'll work with XP on the box. We got it installed and it's working fine with XP Service Pack 2. We than decided that sitting the laptop on our lap just wasn't going to cut it. So I looked into several options for a laptop mount. I saw anything for the $20 cheapo on eBay to the high dollar units at $1000+. Spent a day doing a lot of research and finally found one I liked that was very reasonably priced. So we got everything layed out. Mount unassembled, streets and trips software, GPS receiver, power inverter, and of course the laptop. Next step was to assemble the new laptop mount. It went very easy for the most part and I was surprised at how stout the unit was for what I payed for it. Looked like it was going to suit our needs just fine. Next was installing it. I spent a lot of time holding it up with the laptop on it and adjusting it to make sure we got a prime location so that we could easily adjust it for different situations. I didn't want to hinder leg room for the passenger, I also wanted to make sure it could be moved so that it sat over the passengers legs if they wanted to use it. And also wanted to make sure it could be easily placed for the driver to use it but not hinder the line of sight and also not hit the gear selector. After messing with it for awhile I found a good location for it. Installed it by simply drilling 4 holes in the transmission "hump" and putting in 4 bolts with fender washers and lock nuts on the back side. It's very sturdy. A few installed pics. Overall we're very happy with the setup and have less than $300 in it total (not including the laptop of course). I'd highly recomend all the products we used and it's a cheap alternative to the high dollar GPS units if you already own a laptop.

where can you get new break lines
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to JpComancheKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just moved it down to the other bracket. You can see where it used to sit in the pic at the top. I gained a lot of length, and the factory one is plenty long now for me even at 6.5" with 35's. Total cost, about 10 mins of time... -
Tires. Yes. A tire thread.

:D :chillin: :D :chillin: -
He's wanting 3.5-4" of lift. Doing SOA will net you a min of 5", with most resulting in 6.5". This is based on what leafs you have and if they are 2WD or 4WD packs.

Open to Closed Links?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to bigborebates's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As always with this specific subject I disagree with Eagle greatly. I think it's one of the better mods for the Renix era Jeeps. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the closed system fail on the trails; leaving the Jeeper to come up with a vast variety of jimmy-rigged fixes to get them back to camp. 2 litter cola bottle's only work so long on the trail before they go "pop". Ever tried to fill the system on the trail when your Jeep's hot after it over-heats? It's next to impossible to do with the closed system and get it to take any vast amount of fluid. Just this weekend mvusse ran into this problem. I can tell you that he wouldn't of had near the issues if the system was an open system. Eagle and I will probably always disagree on this topic; and that is fine. But as a person who's done the conversion on several XJ's/MJ's with great success don't let one naysayer who's never done the conversion themself talk you out of it. -
GLXJ Summer Fest 2008 - 250+ Pics

Here is a short video of the weekend's event. Nothing special as I really didn't get a lot of video again... http://www.jeeptv.com/video/6520 (will load player on page, no download thanks to JeepTV.com) -
AHHHH... That explains those pics. I was wonder why the hell someone would be painting their rig in the middle of a wheelin' weekend. I was thinking that he should not be out there if he is that anal about his rig :laughin: She was back at camp with our 3 month old and everyone thought they needed to take pics of it so they could tell on me since I was wheeling her rig. Great friends I have.... Just don't' show her this pic, as I told her I'd take it "easy" on her rig. :brows: This is where the scratch happened. Unfortunately that was the least of the damage, a trashed rear bumper, and 2 smashed rockers wasn't as easily covered up as the scratch mark was. Oh well, I had fun showing everyone up in my wife's rig :D. I think I was more pissed about the damage than she was...

I think 95% of the guys (and gals) who are planning on showing up are on GLXJ as well, but I'll post this here just for reference to those who may not be. JUST A REMINDER ABOUT MEETING TIMES!!! We are planning on meeting at the normal meeting area at 10:00 AM (Indiana Time). This is located at the parking lot across from the pond at the BOTTOM of the hill once you enter the park. We are planning on doing things a little different this time as inevitably we always seem to be waiting on someone to show up. Some members drive several hours to be here and are on time; others run into delays getting here. We understand that so were going to give a window. We will meet at 10:00 AM SHARP the 1st time. We will leave to go play for a few hours hitting the rock quarry, sand dunes, etc. for the 1st few hours of the day. If you are late you can find us in the rock quarry. We will than meet up again at the normal spot (parking lot across the pond at the bottom of the hill) at 1:00 PM SHARP for a guided trail ride. If you want to do lunch please do this PRIOR to meeting up at 1:00; we will not be stopping on the trails to break for lunch. We will than finish out the day hitting several trails. For those of you who have not wheeled with us before this is the highlight of the day. So be on time so we don't leave you behind! We run channel 12 on the CB's if you have one and are trying to find us. See you this weekend! :D

PROJECT BUDGET MANCHE - Now on 35's!
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yeah definatly not a S&W cage. It's the start of an exo-cage. Not sure how an interior cage will work on the outside... ;) I'm building a set of D44's for it. It's slow as I'm doing it on a "budget". I'll wheel with the D35 until it breaks. As some on here can attest I'm not easy on it and it's held up thus far... Oh, and a Ford 8.8 will NEVER be in any of my rigs.
