  1. Had a fairly eventful day. Dr's appointment this afternoon. It was my physical for my airmans certificate. Passed. I can fly for another 5 years. And finally got to see the chase scene in 'Taken' courtesy of Netflix.
  2. After heeding good advice from PM and others about pulling your carpet and checking for rust. I respectfully suggest you pull your bedliner, those that have them, and clean the bed out and look for rust. That is mostly leaves that was under the liner and we all know what they can do to metal. Fortunately I caught it in time and there was no damage, other than a couple wear spots from the liner. :smart:
  3. I have a '89 2.5 that did that. Start it every day no problem. The longer it sat the harder it was to start. Sit for 3 days it was almost impossible to start. I disconnected the CPS plug and reconnected it. No brake cleaner or nothing, just unplug and replug the connector. Haven't had any trouble since. Jim
  4. If for some reason you absolutely have to have a V8 go with a Ford 289 or 302. They're 200 lbs lighter than Chevy and easier to cool. I put a 350 Buick in a '89 MJ and it runs pretty darn good, but I wouldn't do it again, unless there was an pressing urgent need to. Like just to see if it could be done.
  5. I would rather swap, fix, parts anytime over messing with rust.
  6. Don't clean my upholstlry. That's what high school pep club fund raisers are for.
  7. Since most parts have somekind of a warrenty, It would behove the store to make sure he gets it right.Or they gonna be giving him a new disc. More than once me and a parts clerk went in back and opened boxes to check on something.
  8. Why don't you swap engines with the guy where you got the odometer? That way the engine and odometer will be correct. If you go to that much trouble why don't you swap the rest of the drive train as well? Have everything consistant. :D   Learn as if you are going to live forever. 9. Look at the disc. The springs will be farther out on one side than the other. This is the side goes to the transmission. The smoother side goes to the flywheel. Normally the longer hub is on the same side as the protruding springs. Place the disc on the flywheel and make sure it's not touching anywhere other than the composite stuff. Slide it around a little. It should slide freely. Think I would take it back where I got it and make them show you which side is correct.
  10. I have a 2001 XJ with 4.0,Auto and 4WD. I originally got it with the intention of swapping everything into a 1989 MJ 4.0, 5sp, 4WD. After wising up to what all was involved I;m just going to swap engines. I'm going to remove all the sensors, everything associated with the HO and replace them with Renix. I believe I will be losing a couple HP doing this but I will still have a fresher engine. Going to keep the AX15 and swap the flywheel, over to the newer engine. Hope I don't have to change manifolds also but will if necessary. Any thing I'm overlooking? Jim Learn as if your going to live forever. Live as if your going to die tomorrow.
  11. You should be able to return those 2 and get the correct one. There is no practical way to use a 1 wire.
  12. You left out the part about it being a 220VAC, 5hp compressor and 100 gallon tank and laying 5 mile of cable to power it with. Should of just picked up the bumper on the side with the flat, and pushed, carried it home. Only make one trip that way. :shake:
  13. Usually the amp rating is marked on the alternator somewhere. To get a idea of what it's putting out take a amp meter,at idle 60amps should do it but 100 would be better.hook the negative side of the meter to the pos terminal of the alt.Hook the pos terminal of the amp meter to a carbon pile. Remove the pos battery terminal from the battery. The amp meter will be reading the alt output.
  14. I estimate the short bed at 165-175lbs. The long bed at 195-200lbs. I base this on carrying a SB 25-30 ft on my back, after removing it from my '89MJ and setting it on a trailer. Did I mention I'll be 75 in less than 2 weeks?
  15. SHIPPING? I thot you would come get it. :???: I'll call around tomorrow, see if anythings open. Otherwise be Mon B4 I find out anything. J
  16. I tried for an hour to upload pics, Just gave up. Send me ur email an I got a couple to send. Never mind.
  17. the 4.3 liter is a 90 degree gm bellhousing, which is NOT the same as a 2.8 or 3.4. the 2.8/3.4 is a 60 degree gm bellhousing. just because something uses a similar bellhousing does NOT say that the flywheel will work...and the 90 degree blocks aren't even close to workable with the 60 degree setup. you want a stronger plower/grader? get rid of the ratty POS 2.8 in the s10, or swap in a 350. those are your options. That's pretty much the info I was looking for. Thanx JeepcoMJ. I do take umbrage with your comment on the 2.8. It is under powered, especially for what I was using it for. However I find it to be a very dependable, economical motor, other wise. As for the 350 swap. At one time I would have jumped at any excuse to do so. Now? Got several J20's sitting around. Just use one of them. Probably should have done that in the first place. Too old we get to soon. Too smart we get to late. :rotf:
  18. Was thinking the 4.3 or the 3.4 would bolt up to the 2.8 bellhousing. Apparently it's the bell housing bolts up to the tranny. Got a '89 S10 with 2.8, Use it for plowing and grading. but the clutch doesn't hold up. Just looking for something heavier. Not worried about the balancing,Thats what machine shops are for.
  19. Hey Rob, If you don't find a drive shaft closer to home, Ive got one you can have. Came out of a '87 MT with AW4 and D44.Jim
  20. Anyone know if the 11" flywheel from a 4.3 GM will fit on a 2.8 engine? Wanting to swap up to a heavier clutch.
  21. You should get bored more often. Very nice. :clapping:
  22. Well,,Gee Whiz,,,,,
  23. In 1982 I was working in Israel-Egypt. I took the tour that traced the path Jesus took carrying his cross to the hill where they crucified him. I felt awed ,trying to find right words, walking this hallowed ground. Somehow i have the feeling you felt the same way going thru this gents garage.
