Newbie build - 91 Eliminator
acerocknroll replied to acerocknroll's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Ha, I was gonna upload a bunch more boring photos of the interior progress but imgur is so annoying to use anymore i got fed up Yeah I really lucked out with the seats, dude was ecstatic to get my bench and center console, so hey everyone's happy :) They're in decent shape, a little rip on the driver's and they still need a good cleaning but I love them. Much more comfortable than the bench, but they do sit WAY higher. The center console is definitely from an XJ but I'm not complaining because CUP HOLDERS BABYYYYY!!! -

Bit of a pic dump incoming - been working on fixing up the interior on the MJ. Got the guy who welded my bumper up to install some new floor pans, then I POR15'd the top and bottom. Found a guy locally who was looking for a bench seat for his truck, did an even trade for his buckets and center console. Replaced the headliner, which was just a piece of fabric held in place by about 200 staples, also coated the backing piece with some fiberglass resin so it doesn't keep falling apart. Replaced the carpet, messed up on a couple cuts but still came out pretty nice. Replaced some of the old black trim with grey stuff I got at a JY, for the pieces I couldn't find I just sprayed em with some engine primer, close enough for now. Before: After: Oh and because I'm a huge dork -
a6000 is a great camera, I shoot Nikon stuff professionally but the Sony mirrorless offerings are excellent. I mostly shoot medium format film for personal work: Here's one from Iceland Used to do a lot of abandoned stuff but now I mostly take photos of my kid haha Also, loving all the blue heeler photos in this thread, they are my absolute favorite dog ever

Floor Replacement Question
acerocknroll replied to MGriff013's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was gonna order the Key Parts pans from Quadratec, anyone have experience with these? They're supposed to be pretty nice, although I know they won't be an exact fit in an MJ http://www.quadratec.com/products/72608_8500_07.htm -
Ok, got the TB off to clean out. Couple questions: First, does this look like a fairly normal amount of buildup? The gasket on the TB seems to be fully intact still, and there was no residual gasket material where it bolts onto the manifold. Should I just leave it on and reuse it or scrape off and use the Fel Pro gasket I got? Should I clean out the inside of the manifold here? And yes I'm going to vacuum out the little mouse nest there lol

Thanks, I was literally just looking for info on this!

Choosing Comanche?
acerocknroll replied to aglass0fmilk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Couple thoughts: Yeah Facebook sucks but I would join every Jeep buy/sell/trade group in your surrounding area. There are a LOT of MJ's that sell there and never even get listed on Craigslist Don't rush into buying one just because they're hard to find and don't come up for sale often. Don't settle, wait for the "right" one, you'll know it when you find it. Also I would keep the XJ too :) Nice MG's! My first car was a 1968 MGBGT, which by the way is a TERRIBLE FIRST CAR for a 16 year old lol. Died all the time and I wrecked it when I lost control going around a nasty curve. On the off chance yours have a service sticker anywhere that says "Harry E Hurst III," that's my dad, he ran a shop that specialized in MG's (down in FL, so not likely he ever saw yours but ya never know!) We're talking about building a Sebring edition since he already has the body panels for one. Good luck with your hunt! -
Didn't have a lot of free time tonight so decided to replace plugs first on a hunch. Here are three of the old ones: Pretty gnarly. Super burnt and with oil all up in the threads. Now, I put those old ones in before I fixed my leaky valve cover gasket so hopefully the new ones won't get oil in them too. Took it for an extended test drive after the plugs and... ran totally fine. No hiccups although it seemed to be running a little hot again at times. I think the plugs were just a symptom and not the underlying issue so I'm still going to clean the throttle body/TPS/IAC, replace the ignition coil with a Mopar one (current is an aftermarket one that gets some really nasty reviews online) and check all my grounds and vaccum lines. Also - my battery terminal ends are a total disaster, is there a recommended replacement?

...and be gentle with the pintle. They're somewhat fragile. Don't go at it with a wire wheel... Also, I thought when doing the fuel pressure test it was...running, one reading with vacuum to the FPR - and again with the vacuum hose disconnected from the FPR. Yeah was my first time running that test, may not have done 100% correctly. Gonna have my dad come over and give me a hand with this but will clean those sensors in the meantime.

Fuel pressure test results: Turn key to prime fuel pump reads about 42 Start engine and idle, reads about 32. Doesn't change much when under load. I've attached a couple of videos if anyone feels like taking a look. Starting up: It settles into a normal idle towards the end here but goes back into the erratic idle after I stopped the video Going to test ignition system tonight. Could it be clogged injectors maybe?

Well, been lucky for the past year but finally having some running issues with the MJ :( 1991 4wd/AX15 transmission. Didn't drive it for a couple weeks then drove it to and from work, all good. Started it up later and almost stalled out right away, could barely get it into first or reverse unless I feathered the throttle a bit. Once into second it seemed better, third seems mostly normal. Coming to stops it has low/erratic idle. Now when I start it up it sounds like a cement mixer or a washing machine with a bunch of sneakers in it for like 10 seconds, then revs way up to like 4000 rpm all of a sudden, then goes back to about 700. Basically, it just feels like it's not getting enough fuel, I have to goose the throttle every time I want to shift, especially from a stop. As mentioned, once into third or fourth gear it feels mostly fine and it cruises right along. So far I've just replaced the fuel filter and filled it up with fresh gas, it seemed like that fixed it at first but went back to running badly immediately on the test drive. Just looking for some insight on what to try next before I start shotgunning parts at this thing. Once other thing I noticed is there is a new leak either from the oil pan gasket or possibly the transmission (ax-15)... really hoping i haven't been running the trans dry, gonna check the transmission level first thing tomorrow (oil level is fine).

Damn, you built one helluva nice MJ! I usually favor the stock look but nice work man, looks awesome. Hey you wouldn't happen to still have your buckets and want to sell them? I'm having a heck of time finding a set near Philly, you'd think it wouldn't be too tough but I'm striking out here. In 88 XJ news, I pulled my first transmission! Now to get the new one in! -
If any have bucket seats let me know if you feel like snagging the mounting brackets. Thanks!

Thanks Minuit, always appreciated  I looooove it, it definitely wasn't a crucial (or inexpensive) upgrade but I'm glad I did it. Shifting is much smoother, shorter and has more of a positive "click" into each gear. Plus, they're my namesake so I pretty much had to get one ;) -

My junior technician helped me install a new JCR Offroad rear bumper! Really like the look, much slimmer profile which is nice for parking in the city. I think I shaved like 6 inches off the OAL of the truck. -
I just forwarded this to my Dad, he works with a local auto racing museum. Would be awesome if they picked it up!

Al Unser Jr Stroh's Comanche hat pin....... finally got mine!
acerocknroll replied to yellaheep's topic in The Pub
So, this thread put me on the hunt for some of these pins! Haven't found any Stroh's ones yet but got a couple cool ones so far, both from ebay sellers in France actually. Still only a couple bucks each even with shipping. -
Thanks Yellaheep, I think that's what I'll end up doing. Will wait to find the exact seats I want before modifying my brackets but will let you know if I decide to order spare. Thanks!

Longshot for sure but hey, why not - looking to get rid of my bench seat finally, if you've got a set for sale let me know price and shipping to 19146. Thanks!

Been a while but I'm still pluggin away on the MJ! Got the roll bar mounted And did a bunch of other little cosmetic stuff, nothing major lately. Haven't even looked at my new XJ yet but hoping to start work on that soon. Just ordered a JCR rear bumper for the MJ, should be able to get that and the floor pans repaired very soon! After that it's on to prepping for paint later this summer! Also, was gonna replace the transmission fluid soon - I'd read that if fluid in an auto trans hasn't been changed in ages it's better not to mess with it, is that ever the case with a manual? Like I won't hurt anything by changing it out right? Redline still the recommended stuff for an AX15? -

Not too much to report, did a couple little things to the MJ recently. Totally added 5hp here lol and like at least another 10 here In other news, I finally bought my first XJ! I've always wanted one, was gonna buy one a while back but found my Comanche first instead. It's an '88 Cherokee Pioneer, seems to be rot free but transmission is totally boned. It has the crappy BA10/5 in it now, and it came with a donor AX15 and transfer case. Hopefully won't be too hard of a swap! -
