De-Leakifying Vent Windows
ComancheFan1991 replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, I'm the second most stubborn person in the world. When I bought my '88 Cherokee Pioneer new, I paid extra to get the operable vent windows. They leaked. I went back to the dealer, who brought in the Chrysler area tech rep. His solution was to offer to replace the operable vent windows with the fixed glass triangles. Refund the money I had paid to get operable windows? Oh, heck no. So I kept my operable vents and tried to stop the leaks. The problem is at the end of the metal track on the bottom of the glass. It makes a sharp step, and the rubber gasket can't properly seal at that junction, so that's where the window always "weeps." The only thing that worked for me was to liberally apply a coating of silicone grease, and then close the vent. The problem is that you have to keep reapplying the grease if you open the window(s). My XJ has (had) air conditioning, so I have kept the vents sealed shut for twenty five years, and they don't leak. But they are there if I ever need to use them. I was wondering if operating Vents were standard on the Pioneer. -
I don't have one but I was wondering, as they aren't computer controlled like the newer ones.

The radio came out with the dash.

So the wipers on a 1996 Grand Caravan would be self destructive if dry operation could cause failure, as they had a tendency to turn themselves on randomly.

I think they make cup holders that fit over the emergency brake handle for the ones with buckets and the console, as I think the XJ and MJ consoles are the same.

I wouldn't be surprised if the '70s cars in Iran are kept running in much the same fashion as in Cuba

It might have been a "Town" Truck at one point possibly.

Brave men. I'm guessing they never go "Off Duty". -
I wonder what the SportTruck would look like with a dark gray stripe on the side, like certain 1987 models.

Or White GMs, or light purple Neons.

It looks like it bounced around like a pinball.

He also seems braver than previous ones.

Would B20 be bad for the Renault 2.1 Diesel used in the 1986 and 1987 Mj's, as it's kind of a crude diesel, relatively speaking.

Would the bedliner be better protection against rocks and such on the road? -
Engine and axle swap questions?

I don't think the 4.0 six would fit, as I don't know if your firewall would allow it. -
Does anybody know why the put the C101 connector on Renix engines? I don't get why they put a connector that would usually only be used once, instead of making them just straight wires from the factory. I could see how it would make the removal of an engine easier, as you wouldn't have to remove a whole lot of connectors to get the engine out. But I don't think engine removal would be common when they were under warranty, and it has only proven to be a headache later on, when moisture and dirt get into the connector.

I think the two piece radio came out of an Eagle Premier/Dodge Monaco. -

What's different about the '84 Cherokee Bumpers? -
I would check all of the electrical connections between the sensors and the cluster, as the '91s and the '92s used an all electronic cluster. The connections at the cluster might be the problem. My parents had a '91 XJ that a speedometer that didn't work intermittently, and a fuel gauge that read with the key in the lock position. I personally would try whacking the top of the dash above the cluster, as that may get the speedometer working at least briefly, if it's a loose connection there.

I'm new to the Comanche. Don't have one yet. I'm wondering what areas of the vehicle should be bedlined for longevity. I know that the floor of the cab, the insides of the rocker panels, as well as both the inside and underside of the bed, should probably be bedlined. Also is it safe to put the bed on grass upside down or will it spread out, at least at the tail gate end.
