  1. Driving along the other day with my camera ready. No pedestrians or animals were injured in this photo shoot. Complete rebuild on the engine at 260k, the rest of the drive train is original. Steering components have been replaced. At 23mpg that would be 13,043 gals. ~ 869 fill-ups, California gas price = $65,897 fuel cost
  2. How can I delete a post that I have in the classified section?
  3. Browsing Craigslist and found this Dana 44 with factory Trac-Lok, gears 3.07 :( http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/3118455322.html
  4. Just spotted a nice 94 Cherokee SE, 4.0, 5speed with 44K miles!! Denver Craigslist It is priced WAY to high at $8900. http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/3129657411.html
  5. More than likely just air trying to work it's way out of the system, I have had the same problem with mine. There is no level sensor on my 88 expansion tank. You need to keep the tank full so it can draw water into the engine on cool down cycle. I had to add water to my tank three times before all the air was out of my system.
  6. Hole are measured to the closest edge? Bolts and studs are measured to center. I'm not sure I understand that...
  7. I believe the TDI Golf has been one of the best selling cars in Europe for years. VW's tend to be heavy for their size, that gives them the solid quiet ride. I have enjoyed my 2003 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T. There have been a few problems in the 139K but the car is smooth a quiet. I can get about 32-34mpg in town and 38mpg on the road. I do all my own work so I don't have the expense of shop time. A good resource for technical data is vwvortex.com. Granted there are some dysfunctional personalities in that group but there are some good tech articles. Under the 1.8T engine section there are 1.4 million posts... There is a lot of stuff you can do to the TDI to bump up the mileage and power.
  8. Could I cover the whole roof with Bondo? Would that crack? Maybe I could use something like fiberglass, (Tiger Hair) I was also thinking I could stitch a whole new sheet metal panel on there, I have done some small patches before.
  9. This is the hail damage on my roof, I think the photo makes it look worse than it really is. Can I cover the whole roof with Bondo? I was thinking it may be easier to cut a roof panel from the junk yard and weld it in...
  10. When the engine is warm and running take a spray bottle of water and spray the plug wires. Cross fire on the plug wires makes it seem like the whole engine is dying.
  11. The 2.5l have a electronic idle control. When you shut the engine off the idle control resets itself for restart, that is where you see the movement. It should start with a fast idle and then slow down to normal in about 5 seconds. If you watch the plunger you can see it move.
  12. Not bad at all. Just bent the outside 6" of the bumper a little bit, scuffed up the plastic endcap. There was one small depression in the box under the bumper endcap that will probably push out form the back. The factory receiver hitch really stiffens up the bumper. I almost felt sorry for the guy, his Taurus was mangled from the front wheel well to the rear wheel well. The doors on the right side of his car wouldn't open.
  13. It was a beautiful day so I thought I would take my Jetta "Silver Bullet" for a change of pace. Moved the Comanche out on the street to get the Jetta our of the garage, you guessed it. She heard the doorbell ring about 9:30am, some guy standing there saying he was sorry. He was trying to hand his little girl something in the back seat. I don't know how bad it was hit, my wife says the bumper is bent up. He lives right around the corner, left his name and number. Now I have to go through the rest of the day with that on my mind... How bad has it really been hit? Just the bumper or is there body damage? I had just found and installed a factory Drawtite receiver hitch. To top it off I have a late meeting 4:00pm that I really don't won't go to, but I have to be there. The bright side, no one was hurt, just twisted metal.
  14. First you have to determine what your AC system is charged with, R12 or R134a. If it is original it will be charged with R12, in 1995 they switched to R134a. The two freon systems are not interchangeable. The only kits you can buy at the auto parts store are for the R134a system. If you want to recharge with R12 you will have to go to a licensed shop. The system can be converted to R134a but it is expensive to do it right, they would have to install a new filter/drier and change the seals.
  15. 1988, Jeep, Comanche, Pioneer. 2.5 / AX4 / NP231 / D30 / D44LSD-3.55 / SWB Build date: ? Current Location: Northern Colorado Status: DD, closing up on 300K Notes: This unit is bright white with Oxford interior, Bench seat, floor shift 4spd. Wondering what kind of celebration I should have when this truck passes the 300k mark.
  16. The orange wire with the shielding is for the AC compressor. Vacuum lines on a 2.5 are very important. Search this forum for a vacuum diagram it will really help you understand the system.
  17. You have to paint Bright White. That cuts down on the shadows and increases the intensity of the light.
  18. My stock 88 2.5, AX4, 4X4, no AC, SWB, weights 3280 lbs on the scale. In mixed driving to work, 19 miles and 12 stoplights I can get a consistent 21-22 mpg. On a slow highway drive 55-65 I can get 23-24mpg. I believe the high altitude in Colorado takes a toll on the mileage. If I get on I25 and join the race at 75-80mph my mileage drops to about 20mpg. Every time I go to sea level and rent a car I can't believe the power. I would bet the 2.5 at sea level is a decent little motor, up here it is just not quite enough...
  19. Try Performance Radiator. I picked up a all metal copper/brass two row for my 2.5l. Works well. Rick
  20. Could you grab the front of the crankshaft / lower pulley and see if it moves in and out longitudinal?
  21. My fan temp sensor came with the DC Controls fan relay. It is a small thermocouple that pressed into the radiator fins. It is nice because back on the fan control module you can adjust the set point +- 15 degrees when the fan turns on.
  22. I had the same problem with my temp sensor in the housing, I couldn't figure out the threads. The old retired plumber at the hardware store figured it out in about 45 seconds. He called the threads in the housing "compression fitting", then he used a 5/8 NPT to 3/8 NPT reducer. See the photo.
  23. I have the same housing on my 88, there is a threaded plug where the temp sensor goes. p/n 8933003612. Before you install the housing make sure the mounting surface is flat, there are only two bolts holding that down. Lay some fine sand paper on a flat surface and move the housing in a figure eight pattern.
  24. Help me understand which hose we are talking about... Is this inside the fuel tank?
