?'s about Cooling System Swap
kro10000 replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You have to reroute your heater hoses, and unless you want coolant going through your heater core all the time you'll need the newer style heater valve. Then obviously an overflow tank -
?'s about Cooling System Swap
kro10000 replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Instead of using an "open" radiator, I spliced the water inlet from a 99 durango 4.7 into the upper rad hose. Still swapped over the newer heater valve. System works great, no temp issues, but if I were to do it again id consider swapping radiators. -
I've been having an off idle hesitation problem, checked the tps and it read 0.8v closed, and 4.65 WOT. I tried adjusting it but couldn't get higher than 4.8v. It does have a good 5v going to it. Would this be enough to be a concern and the tps to be bad? Also if this couldn't cause the hesitation, what else would be good to check? Thanks! Ps its the mj in my sig, renix 4.0

Motion Offroad Budget Boost?
kro10000 replied to kawaboy13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also after spending some quality time in the Monroe catalog, I found that Toyota T100 ('94 I think) rear shocks are a bolt in swap for a MJ that is lifted 1.5-2" -
My 89 was originally a 2wd, and it is definitely on the side
-
FWIW I'm pretty sure all Comanches used 14mm u bolts, not just the D44s. XJs used a 12 or 13mm u bolt though.

I would never ever put any more money in a Dana 35 than what some RTV and gear lube costs. There are several far better options out there that are plentiful, of course like most things the best axles are the rarest. The axles you should look for are: (In this order IMO) 87-92 MJ D44 86 MJ AMC 20 87-89 XJ D44 96+ Ford Explorer 8.8 97-01 XJ 8.25 (I could be wrong about 97, it is what year they switched to the 29 spline shafts) The first two are direct swaps (besides having the driveshaft shortened, but that can be done relatively inexpensively by a local driveshaft shop) The others will require slightly more work, but not much. Wheel spacers are a good idea on the 8.8. Personally I would trust the used OEM set up axle at the junkyard over a job a questionable mechanic did. Differentials are relatively low failure items (except for the D35  ) So as long as there isn't something obviously wrong with it I'd just toss it in and That said I'm probably going to go through my D44 this summer, there was some rust in my diff and I don't trust it. Plus I just got through my manual transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials class and I want to set up some gears just 'cause I can

cam shaft suggestions/opinions?
kro10000 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just nitpicking here, but flat tappets actually have a "crown" in the face, they are not actually flat. -
Yup I'm at the point where I've memorized half the sizes of the bolts on my MJ. 14mm drain plug on mine, seeing as I've done 4 oil changes on the MJ this year alone I'm getting pretty good at it.

 Thats the first thing that poped into my head when i looked at , i like it !!! It's in Canada, so not sure about that

windshield whippers not working
kro10000 replied to Comancheman824's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Or the delay box -
Called it :D The only tractor I've ever driven/worked on is an old Ferguson. Love that thing
-
FWIW I was thinking about the same thing, I think if I were to do it, I'd like to mount the fuse box inside the glovebox.
-
I think that is a ferguson

MJ D44 ZJ disk brake swap
kro10000 replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've read that the 8.8 disks are an easier swap . One of these days I'm going to attempt to swap the vented disks from a lincoln mark VII... one of these days -
Well the problem I see is that if this isn't successful, they will just decide no one wants a jeep truck. :headpop:
-
The head should swap fine, but you might still have blow by issues. If it were me I'd try to mate the renix tps to the HO TB, hopefully someone will provide a link to it.
-
However I am unsure why it cannot be resurfaced, It looked like my original one had a slight taper to it, and I thought that might be the reason, but the after market replacement is completely flat.
-
Yeah it is in fact the t-case that is resistant to go into and out of 4wd than it is possible the synchro might be shot, but unlikely. More likely are the problems stated above
-
Clutch master syndrome. Rob Yup, I just accept that many of the MJs electronics won't work... And when they do it is just a plus. Makes me glad I have manual locks/windows/mirrors
-
Someone had to say this... Wrangler But yeah definitely not my thing, please chop the top off of an S10 or something, clean MJ sheetmetal is rare
-
...I don't see any problem :dunno:
