Thanks man. I wasn't sure how hard it was going to be. But it really wasn't hard at all. If I knew how to weld I could have knocked it out in two days. But I took my time and was dependent on a buddy to weld it for me. Overall it's very solid and can't wait for when I paint them black. My plan is do the body line down with the black Raptor liner. Yeah I wouldn't have done this unless my rockers were so un salvageable. I was surprised the rust wasn't real bad on the inside of the rocker as it was on the outside.

Cheapo headliner solution
Mattman6 replied to Dadinator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Where did you pick this up and do you remember the size it was? Harbor freight has one, but it looks to be way too small. I really want to do this in my truck. -
Let me know how you get your injector issue straightened out. Just installed mine and it's not running as smooth as it should be.

Some day shots of the drivers side rocker.

someone tried to buy Blue88Comanches Comanche today
Mattman6 replied to Black89Comanche's topic in The Pub
Had my first experience today of someone trying to buy my truck. Said him and his son just got done fixing up an old Cutlass. Told me they were looking for an older truck to work on now. Kind of wish I would have entertained him to see what he offered. Just told him outright that it wasn't for sale. -
Try Photobucket. It offers link directly for posting to forums. It's really pretty easy once you get the account setup and pics uploaded to it.

Mattman6 replied to TuckerTJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Nice work to the floors. I'll be tackling those pretty soon myself. Also good call on that Ranger headliner, I'll be sure to be on the lookout the next time I'm at the pull a part.- 47 replies

Finally got the rocker mounted in. I may add 2x2 square tubing to the support the bottom better. But this is how it's gonna stay for a bit. Now I get to do the other side and be done with the rockers finally. Anyways onto the pics POR15 inside the rocker to keep the rust at bay in there. He stacked two welds side by side. As we were dealing with 1/4 steel and my welder was maxed out on heat to burn in. Hope to get the other side welded in over the next few weeks. I'm pretty stoked with how it came out.

Test fitted the 2x6 this afternoon. My buddy who is a welding student couldn't come by tonight to help me get it burned in. Hoping to have all that done tomorrow evening. But here are some pics of the process thus far.

Today I decided to get started on my Rocker Panels. Once I get these welded in I will closer to be able to get this thing painted. I went by a local metal supply and picked up 2X6 rectangle boxed steel. I changed my mind from the 2x3 I had after reading through several XJ build threads. It sticks out just a little bit, to protect the doors and seems like it will be easier to weld in than the 2x3. Anyways today I tore into my drivers side rocker and wasn't real surprised with what I found. The end towards the front was in great shape, but the cab corner was pretty rusted on the inside. Found two baseball size balls of fiberglass body filler in there :???: My plan is to keep the cab corner in tact and put the 2x6 in at the door and not all the way through the front fender. This week I plan to spend it prepping the rockers and getting them ready to weld. If it all goes well, I will be welding in the rockers this weekend, but we will see how all that goes. Not sure how this even happened, but it's out now. Now for anyone that has done this mod. Did you cut the pinch seam all the way out as well? I just cut from the bottom and followed the pinch seam as a guide. I plan to follow the write up on Jeep Kings that used a 1 inch flat bar and then a 2 inch angle iron to mount it too.

Jeep XJ MJ OEM AM FM CD Player Mopar 82300393

Can someone answer this, I have the factory tape deck in my MJ I have to manually turn it on every time I start the truck. Is this normal or is there a way to make it come on with the key. Also does the factory deck have lighting behind it? Because mine is completely blacked out. -
1991 Comanche to become a nice daily
Mattman6 replied to Mikeyd99's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Looks like a solid starting point! -
Well came home today to my idiot neighbor catching a field behind my house fire. Comanche got into action to make sure the fire didn't spread to my house. Luckily the FEY bumper didn't fall off and the truck pulled pretty decent.
-
Ok thanks for the help that makes a lot more sense now.
-
Well see they come on at the same time when I manually flip them on. But with the door switch out only one comes on. I plan to just replace the door switches and hopefully that fixes it but to me it seems there maybe another issue in there.
-
I just installed my Eurmatec B pillar lights but they only come on when i flip em up or down. I then realized my door jamb switches were rusted in the closed position. So I grabbed a pair of pliers and pulled the passenger switch to open. With it open only the drivers side B pillar light comes on but the passenger does not. With the switch pulled out, i manually turn the passenger pillar light on it comes on but it's really dim. What would cause this? Would just a faulty switch cause this? Or does it sound like there are other problems I need to know about before pulling the old door switches out.

1986 Comanche 2.8L 4x4 7 ft bed Barn find

Looks like a lot of work but should be an exciting build -
Man those things are bright! I have been looking at those as well. That may have sold me on em

Thanks guys for the kind words. Checked off two more this from my list today and yesterday. Installed the Eurmatec B pillar lights and also finally installed my Autozone tailgate handle. Handle was super easy. Just had to use a cutting wheel to knock off the piece metal inside the opening. Then drilled three new holes to mount it. It isn't perfectly straight but honestly I don't care, I'm just glad to have an easier way to open my tailgate. Also cleaned up my tailgate cover and decided against raptor liner on the tailgate due to the huge dent on the top.

Thanks Impulse! It's been a fun time with it so far. After the lift and tires I fell back in love with it again. I feel like it's getting some character now. Up next is finishing up the body work a welding in a new rocker. Then hopefully I'll be ready to get it painted.

Also took advantage of the 20% off tool box sale Lowes was having and scooped up a compact truck box. It's s great addition for the much needed storage space

Love your truck man! I lived in Paulding for two years off 92 and Brownsville near the Food Depot.
