I attempted to and a bolt broke. So I decided to leave em on for now. Down the road I may take them off and worry about that rust.

Worked a little more on the Body today. Not bad for someone who took a few semesters of Auto Body in High School  . It's a slow process, but will pay off in the long run. I still have some sanding and more bondo work, but ran out of day light today.

Great looking MJ! I really like the look of the Olympic editions and that one is in great condition, looking forward to seeing what you plan on doing with it.

Started on the body work on the bed this week. Hope to take this week and get all the rust and holes taken care of. My goal is too have the bed sprayed with Raptor liner before Friday!

Today I decided to start working on getting the bed ready to start sanding for Bed Liner. Took the plaster bed liner out and found a solid bed without rust. The tailgate was hiding some holes, rust sports and a nice dent. But it won;t be bad getting it back into shape. Also decided to paint the tail lights. They needed some love and came out really good. Very easy to tape off and paint. I would highly recommend doing them, even with just a clear coat over the red.

I will have to look into that. We don't have a lot of salt on the roads or snow here, maybe once every three years, so rust isn't a huge issue for cars here. However I may just throw some spray paint on it, to at least give it another layer of protection. Can I see more of your Isuzu? i never heard of one of those, and wow they look good. I used to have a Probe and it kind of reminds of that body style of a car. lol, probe is a new one, but I guess 80's and 90's fastbacks do look a lot alike. Most people say it looks a bit like a DMC-12, and it should because they were sister design cars from ITALDesign. As far as mine goes.... It's in many many pieces undergoing a resto-mod import style. I'd list the parts, but lets just say I've spent quite a bit of money so far lol. A taste of that - Custom Ron Davis radiator, 7670 EFR Turbo, Custom JE Pistons, Custom Pauter Rods, Lots of AN Fittings, Full Megasquirt 3 with MS3X card, SPAX adjustable shocks from the UK, and on and on and on... Currently swapping a Dana 44 in the rear and getting the C5/C4 corvette brakes setup. More or less how it's sitting. Some shiny bits. Yes, I am building the intake and turbo manifolds (Hence the flange bolted to the head). Looking pretty good. I'm sure it will look great once it's all said and done. It would make my head turn for sure hearing a Turbo spool on a car like that!

Nothing too much going on this week. I finally got my compressor wired up and should be able to start on some body work and also the bed next week. I decided to try and install my new FEY bumper, but come to find out the PO welded the brackets to the bumper. So I have to order brackets and wait until they arrive before getting it installed. Also got my 1.75" coil spacers. Company was out of the generics, so I actually got the Rubicon Express spacers for the same price. Update on my 2x3 Square Tubing. Used the Rust Mort stuff. Worked pretty good. I plan to recoat again and I will also hit with the wire brush before getting them primed. I promise to actually have some action shots and progress soon. It's been brutally hot here in Columbia, so the motivation to work hasn't been there at all.

Got my clear corners in the mail and deiced to throw them. Also got the Raptor Upol bedliner kit and sprayer. Wiring up my compressor this week should be able to get the bed prepped and sprayed by next week. Also picked up some SEM Rust Mort. To try on the body and also some Square Tubing I got from my father in law. It's 2x3 3/16" that I am going to use in place of the rockers. They were free so I am going to try and salvage them as much as I can. Just remember Budget....Build

Nice build! Looking good so far

Well I haven't fully removed the carpet but from the bottom I can poke through pretty easily in some spots. I'm kind of holding off on the floor pans until I get the body in check.
-
Are you talking about from the first pic? If so yes I got them. Not sure if those are the stock ones or not.
-
I'm glad you said that. I have been wrestling with the idea of cutting the rockers out and welding in 2x3 or 2x6 square tubing. I found some locally, just need a welder. After looking at how it looks on a XJ. I really think I'll go that route. And you are right, it'll be worth it.

One last post before I call it a night. Here is my inspiration and what I am shooting for. However i will add my own spin, but this is the look I am going for with my rig. Silver and Black, but also would like to get the stock Pioneer decals back on it.
-
Here is how she sits currently in the interior. I grabbed some XJ a Pillars to install as my MJ did not come with any. The carpet is not stock and I have already discovered some floor pan rust, but that will have to wait until I get the exterior painted. Also there is no headliner, but again I will address that later.
-
Removed the ugly side mirrors and replaced with some XJ ones I picked up at the junk yard. Now I see what everyone is saying, you really can't see much with them. But they look a heck of a lot better IMO. Took the dogs on a poser off road tour.

Not that I have done this since I made this thread (5 mins ago) but so far since I bought it I replaced the gas tank and also the Fuel pump. As the PO said the truck was clogging up the fuel filter constantly. Well after driving it for a week and getting a lot of issues, I decided to order a new pump and tank. Since then I have had zero issues with the truck running and starting. Also got my hands on a nice 60 gallon compressor that I hope will run a DA nicely once I start sanding the body down. Still have to wire it up as it runs 230v and i do not have an outlet just yet to get it going. Dug my spray gun out of the dust and hope to use it on all my painting. Got my hands on a decent DA through a friend who works at FinishMaster.

Well today i got the new gas tank, fuel pump, and filter in. I decided to tackle getting the new one in and hopefully with no issues. I didn't run into anything major, just working on sand and not having the truck high enough made for some awkward positions. But I got the tank in and currently it is running without any leaks. I plan to take it around the block tomorrow to make sure its all good to go. Anyways time for a nice Bourbon and coke before bed

How are you using three straps with the 18 gallon?
-
That's what I figured. I am going to try and work through it. The fuel pump works I'm just getting some hesitation 20% of the time. I have a feeling that the crud in the gas tank is causing a lot of issues.
-
Today I was able to drop the fuel tank and check out exactly what is going on in there. The truck will run pretty crappy sometimes, I cut it off and it is back to running fine. Then a few miles down the road it's running like balls again. I have a feeling the Fuel tank has something to do with it. Pics show exactly what I am working with. So to fix, I just went ahead and ordered a new tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter. Hoping to get it running strong before the weekend!
-
Thank you! Got the tank off today and will post pics over in my build thread.
-
I'm hoping to drop the tank today. So any input would be great

Hello I just got my first 89 Comanche. Well I am already having a few issues with the fuel system. I believe it's trash in the tank or something to do with the fuel pump. The PO told me he was changing the fuel filter reguarly, so I changed it the other day. However I am still having some problems when the truck is running sometimes. I plan to drop and clean out the fuel tank this week. I also may just replace the fuel pump as well. My question though is the Fuel Pump wires. As you can see from the pictures there are some wires that are not plugged into anything. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what exactly is going on with the wiring job someone did in the past. 1989 4.0 I6 4wd Longbed.
