I'd sell that work body bed fast, you'll recoup at least your full initial investment just by getting rid of that. Or hit up 100dollarman for a M105 trailer and swap the mil box to the truck and build up the work box into an offroad trailer.

I've read that Tahoe rear leaf springs are appropriate for use in modified MJs, being the same spring rate and forward length but 5in shorter on the backside. Since I was out dragging my rear bumper on the rocks a few weeks ago I've gotten very interested in reducing rear overhang, moving the spring shackle 5in forward sounds like a good start and a heck of a lot easier and cheaper than a 3-link. Does anyone have experience with this or know which specific Tahoe is appropriate to yank springs from? I saw it mentioned briefly on JF that it was done but there was no detail and it's crowded there so I figured I should ask here first.

Pronounced Shake At 60+Mph: Tires?
dankicksass replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Balancing beads work, when I was a heavy equipment shop we used them in 19.5s and above, and they definitely reduced cupping and improved ride. -
Rear Fender Flare Appliques
dankicksass replied to hoggz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm literally just now today about to cut all my flares off. Which part should I save for guys who want to keep it stock? I have painted flares. They're coming off and the inner fenders are getting cut out. -
Dakota Taillights

They'd certainly have made it easier on us. -
Deal is dead, no more closeout premium filters for now.

Dakota Taillights

You can adapt anything, it's just metal. Or maybe plastic, if you prefer a heat gun to a welder. I think this guy uses XJ armored drop in cans. -
Dakota Taillights

I really don't think it's terrible. Dakota tails are $30 a pair new, and Comanche tails are often 3x that used, especially outside the forum trading. I'm going to make some buckets for different tails sooner or later for mine. I have 2 pairs of Comanche tails but I've never been able to leave anything stock. -

Somebody in Europe put those on a little while ago. http://comancheclub.com/topic/42525-dakota-tail-lights/ -
Changing Oil After Cylinder Head Swap.
dankicksass replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oil is cheap, change it. Any time I've ever done engine work because of oil and coolant contamination, I flushed oil and cooling systems multiple times before releasing the vehicle. -
Did this WJ axle conversion ever happen? I've been considering WJ axles since they're wider and have way better brakes.

I actually know two guys with convertible Dakotas, they love em.

$3000 seems a little ambitious.

Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!

Nice truck, man. Do you remember what year Dodge your headliner came out of? My Jeep has no headliner and every penny counts. -
This is the opening code for a link: If you just want your link to display as http://www.website.com/page.html, you can use this: http://www.website.com/page.html If you want your link to be descriptive text or a photo, use the operator. Use it like this: This is a link., Or like this: The operator always surrounds a photo. The operator works here but it is defunct and not used on most forums anymore. To end any operator, the [/...] code is used. , [/img],
, etc. Hope this helps.

I've seen pictures on here where a guy made some light cross-bars to support the tank across the frame, looked like it would fit under the bed fine. If you have an old angle iron bed frame in storage, that would be more than enough. Working at Toyota for years, I've taken off more than my fair share of beds because of all the frame recalls and such. You definitely want to soak those fasteners in penetrating oil as much as you can, especially at home where you probably can't get comfortable by working on a lift. If you can get your hands on Würth Rost Off Max Ice, it makes PB Blaster look like a child's toy. If you live or your truck ever has lived in a state that uses road salt, be prepared to get out the biggest impact gun you have and the biggest breaker bar. Extensions are the enemy of torque, you want to be right on the socket. When you take the bed off, an engine hoist can help you if you don't have three friends who want to come help.

I buy my tires from Discount Tire direct usually, but I'll still check around for a closeout. Tire Rack sometimes has really good deals. For quite some time I'd been able to mount tires at work but next time I'll be going to my buddy's place and sliding him some cash since I work alone.

Led Bed Lighting
dankicksass replied to Project Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've used a lot of LED roll lighting but not yet in a truck bed. The eBay stuff from China and US resellers has pretty crappy fake 3M adhesive on it. Other than that, it's pretty good. 3028 strips are easier to wire, no controller needed and it's just +/- wiring. 5050 strips have four wires and need a controller unless you get single color 5050. Pretty simple stuff. It's not waterproof by a long $#!& though, more like water resistant.
