A slightly shorter spring over?
dankicksass replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'd be interested in knowing how any of the cheap Ford springs perform in a stock spring-under setup. If one of them is adequate to replace the stock spring for ride and off road performance, that could be very good for the budget minded Jeepers out there. -

If you really want to keep it low, you could use XJ or various trucks' stock shackles to keep things tight. -
A slightly shorter spring over?
dankicksass replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a buddy who just did Explorer leafs on an soa MJ, he reported a gain of about 1.25" over stock MJ leafs. I don't have any experience with using Explorer leafs myself. When I bent a spring, I took my good one to a spring shop and the Explorer/Ranger springs were the closest they had in stock but they weren't nearly as arched as the MJ springs. I didn't take them. -
97+ rear flares, how to
dankicksass replied to floundering's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
This is the inside of the MJ tail lamp lens. It is not very thick and you will end up with holes if you try and flatten it all the way by sanding. -
Always heard they were weak and expensive.

Explorer and Ranger springs are flatter and much cheaper than Comanche springs, and nearly identical in measurements. You can probably get out the door under $150 for either of those. I put a chart up a while back, I think I left the Ford stuff on it. Edit: I killed the Ford stuff when I put the chart up. Here's the whole thing, unedited with the Ford stuff included. -
all wheel drive jeep
dankicksass replied to 1989comancheking's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would like to make an honest suggestion to the OP: build a RC car instead. Get a couple, some knock off Go-Pros, and a helicopter drone. Make a ton of videos. You will have just as much fun and won't kill yourself with it. Your skill level sounds a little bit novice for engineering a real race car, but RC is great for that. -
You only need a drop pitman arm with a dropped/modified track bar mount, and not all replacement or modified track bar mounts require them at that. Your track bar and drag link should be parallel for best performance. EDIT: the imaginary line between the pivot points on each bar should be parallel. In reality, most track bars and drag links are bent.

(412) 867-1538 is the Logan's lady's cell phone. After I had a delay in shipping error (their fault, not Fedex) she text messaged me numerous times to make sure I was happy. I don't take any issue with their customer service. I'm fairly sure Logan's Metal Works and Affordable 4x4 are the same, and operate at least three eBay stores. I bought off Logan's website.

Broken door-hinge welds: cheap n easy fix!

I need to replace my left side hinges, just re-welded the right side ones. Posting here so I can find the measurements easily if I want them. -
cherokee floor pans in a comanche.
dankicksass replied to badazzelanore's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any insight as to where MJ floor pans can be bought? Rockauto has them listed, but they're the same part numbers as the XJ ones, so they aren't real MJ ones. Quoted this because I need floors. -
$700 89 long bed project
dankicksass replied to PNWAlex1/9's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I had to call Logan's, I ordered on a weekend and their printer ate my order so they didn't fulfill it until I called two weeks later. I modified it a little, this is just tacked together, didn't take good photos after I finished welding and painted it. -
Take the crank and rods from the 4.2 and throw the rest away. Instant stroker kit.

Options for Camera(s) for Maintenance
dankicksass replied to kazam's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't read the whole thread. OP says he has death wobble and wants to find it with a camera. That's a new one. Just replace everything. New stock pieces from Rock Auto for all suspension and steering components is around $200. Why bother trying to find the problem and missing it, just do everything. -

I used a new Chevy tailgate handle, you can see how in my build thread, link in my signature. -
mj long bed to short bed
dankicksass replied to Julio_Az's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just cut it behind the shackle hanger and shorten the back of the bed up. Why would you work harder than you have to? You can get it down to a 6 ft bed like that. It's pretty much just body work. You keep re 120 in wheel base and lose the nasty rear overhang. -
Your leaf spring bushings can be replaced simply at home. Buy polyurethane leaf bushings marked for a Cherokee, like Daystar KJ02008BK. Take the springs out of the truck, get your drill out with a 1/2in bit and drill out the rubber until it's all gone. Take a drift or metal chisel and hammer out the metal sleeves. Done. The poly bushings install extremely easily and cost less than stock type bushings.

Project 4 seat MJ, Killed in the womb.
dankicksass replied to Lord Beckbury's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Pretty sure there's a build date tag on mine under the radiator, but that's not an easy spot to check since the radiator needed to be removed to read it. -
My First Jeep / Comanche Resurection
dankicksass replied to dankicksass's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I haven't posted anything in a while. Just finished basic fab on my new bumper. -
My new radiator has dual transmission coolers for LHD or RHD, not sure if I'll actually use both of them but it's nice to have options. Since my trans lines are pretty much ruined, I'll probably use the RHD side when I plumb it to save routing length. Only other fluids underhood that could benefit from cooling are oil and power steering, but only if you really go hard.

dakota 22 gallon tank and fuel pump
dankicksass replied to 99Manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just brought home a 2000-2004 extended cab Dakota tank and pump assy. 22 gallons. I spent what seemed like forever at the junkyard yesterday looking for one that wasn't punctured, I'll report back soon how it worked out. I'm not going to get upset over losing a gallon, though I would have liked to have found a larger capacity tank that would have fit it seemed like every darn tank had a hole in it regardless of what it fit. -

I just got a ZJ box and MJTJNJ has one, he convinced me to do it. It's worth it.
