  1. Damn. I swear I searched here, 4banger jeep, and did a general google search. All I came back with was a bunch of posts about tachometers. Thanks a bunch, though! I really appreciate it. Did you get yours fixed? I personally got rid of thr warm air inlet tube. I'll report back on how it does without it.
  2. What kind of speed will you be needing on the street, and is this your DD? Also, you like autos, or manny-tranny's?
  3. So.... I'm re-doing the vacuum lines on my 87 2.5, and the diagram tells me to connect a pair of lines to a TAC sensor. What the heck is that? I don't see anything besides the MAP, TPS, and O2 sensor under the hood. ;-\
  4. Keep the basics in mind as well. when I first got my MJ, the front end didn't flex very well at all, even with a lift done properly. I checked everything out, I found that 25 years worth of hauling stuff around thr PO's muddy back 40 and neglect had conspired to basically weld/seize the control arm bushings in their place. A lot of PB Blaster and some Energy Suspension love got my front end drooping and compressing like it should.
  5. LIES!!!! lol j/k. Pics would be cool, though.
  6. I'm going to the local u-pull it today. They have an 88 with a tan interior that I'm taking the rear flares from. I'll check the cab for you.
  7. Definately. I just spent the last few days doing a low cost fix up of my cab floor using the Duplicolor roll on liner and some assorted rust busting products. Definately looks and feels a LOT better.
  8. I have the 242 (it was added) in my Wht 88 MJ. Really liked having the Full-time when I lived in Indiana, would deliver trailer loads of hay all winter long and got great traction on the streets, pulling out from a dead stop at the light or stop sign...NP  In Arizona, not so wet and nasty...and was looking at a SYE for it, not much out there unless you go with a Hack n Tap. So, just echoing benjy_26's point on the fact that there's more options available with the 231. Now that my son is driving the truck, he thinks it's cool driving around in Full-time going on and off dry pavement and dirt roads (we live on a dirt road haha)! The next two MJ's on my build list are going to be 231's, and would like to add the four-gear planatary and SYE at some point. AWD is a BLAST when you're bombing desert roads. :) I keep debating whether or not to keep my ZJ 2wd or break down and turn it into an AWD/ 4wd bomber. Maybe a 242 with the torsen and a LP D30 with beefed up CV's would be a cool set up for a high speed, long travel desert Jeep.
  9. I was not aware of this.... May have to take a second look at the 242.
  10. Where are you rubbing? If it's on the body, you may not need more lift....
  11. Awesome sleuthing! Definately going into my "Possible Franken-Jeep" file. Thanks!
  12. This is the ghetto-way... but I did it once or twice on a few cars back in my younger days. :) http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f180/lowering-my-96-xj-541390/
  13. Oh, BTW, I'm about 99% sure there's an Eibach kit for the ZJ. Supposed to be 2" of drop.
  14. That might be somewhere in the neighborhood of a 2-3" drop, if my math is right. At that point, you may need to tweak the steering a bit. I wish I had seen this thread last week. I just chucked my stock, 26yo 2wd 2.5 coils. :-\ I would have just shipped them to you, OP.
  15. I believe my comments were misconstrued. I agree that in STOCK form the 242 and 231 handle about the same amounts of power, BUT, there are ways to mod the 231 to handle quite a bit more, as well as there being a larger aftermarket for it. For a DD/ light wheeler, this probably won't make a difference. For those building something a bit more radical, being able to use a heavier duty chain and having a lower gearset might point them in the direction of the 231.
  16. FWIW, some high speed desert guys around my area preffer the 242 for desert blasting and dune running due to the reduced bind when running in AWD vs the 231's 4H setting.
  17. Well, depends on how you prioritize on road vs off road driveability. On dry roads, I'd say that they're pretty much the same, seeing as how most will use them in 2wd. When things get wet and slippery on tarmac, the 242's AWD option can be beneficial at times. The 4H and 4L options are both pretty much thr same. The 231's main advantages are its lighter weight, bigger aftermarket support l, and its ability to handle pretty big power #'s when built properly.
  18. roof rack on an MJ? i'd love to see that, Redwolf Yes custom build. I'm not a fan of roof racks.... but that's sweet! How are you attaching it?
  19. Depends on what kind of things you want to use your Jeep for.
  20. The again, how much power is enough? When I bought my MJ, I had made up my mind to get rid of the 2.5/AX combo in it as soon as I got it home. After driving it with the stock drivetrain for a bit, I've grown to like it, even with 31's. It's not as powerfull as my SBC in he K5, as smooth as the 3SGTE in my MR, nor is it as torquey and flexible as the stroked 4.0 in my ZJ, but it has a certain old school charm to it that's hard not to like. It reminds me a bit of my old man's Willys pickup with a flat 4, actually. Except that this one can cruise at 60 on the interstate!
  21. Cool. It'd be interesting to see if the RWD oil pan and accessory brackets would bolt up as well. Might make for a viable swap for some.
  22. Thank you SO much! I owe you a few beers! I don't know why those diagrams didnt pop up when I googled. I guess my google-fu is no matc for yours. lol I'm working on correcting all the hack jobs he PO did to my 'Manche over 26 years. I've built a few Jeeps with carbs and more than my share of Chrysler MPFI powered Heeps, but this is my first time messing with a Renix mill.
  23. Isn't the Series 3 3800 60 degree pattern?
  24. Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to buy an ebook/ pdf version of the FSM for the 87 Comanche, or if anyone knows where I can get the vacuum diagram and possibly the wiring diagram for this particular model. Thanks in advance!
