In a fit of desperation, I bought a Droman VC fro Oreiley's. It has a rubber O ring built into the cover. I added a thin bead of Ultra Black RTV on top of the o ring. No leaks so far (knock on wood). This is on a 87 2.5 SporTruck.

I only get oil and voltage lights come on when starting up my 87 SporTruck.

Cool! I'll shoot you a PM!

Pics of the upgraded exhaust: It's not mandrel bent, but with the down-pipe measuring 2.25" and the section after that measuring 2.5" all the way to the tip, it flows plenty well for the 2.5L, is throaty with a good rumble at parking lot speeds and when the throttle is mashed, and has the added benefit of being very, very quiet at 55-60mph. As a matter of fact, at those speeds, the BFG AT's are louder than the exhaust.

No es bueno, Senor Incommando. One needs at least one manny tranny in the fleet. It says so on your man-card. :brows:

Will This Transmission Work For My 88 Mj
benjy_26 replied to AF Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, but the tCU does. Assuming one can get rid of the Renix TCU ( by using a manual shifter), is it safe to assume that one can run an OBD1/OBD2 tranny behind a Renix engine? -
I plan on installing a light bar across the roof, just haven;t decided which one to get. I'll be re-installing the Hella Rallye 2000's I had on the bumper. Those are FANTASTIC fog/flood beams.

So... DOES the Renix ECM care what tranny is in the car? -

Does the Renix ECM control or read the tranny? If not, the OBD1 tranny should work alright, assuming you get the accompanying TCM. -

New lift parts: New 8.8 AX4 drain plug. Looked like the fluid had glitter. MUCH better after a 10-30w Synth oil change. Engine bay as it sits now Totally unrelated, but here's a broken scraper, made out of rancheria chert. It's estimated to be between 10,000 and 6,0000 years old. Some poser flex??? Remember the ammo boxes? V8 ZJ coils vs Rancho 2.5" coils How it looks like with the Rancho coils up front:

Gunk... Duraliner installed: Build date! Rat's nest!! What's this about?:
-
Quick backtrack: New TRE's and mild lift... TBI clean up: looking junky...
-
This is with my wiring and vacuum spider's nest cleaned out and functioning properly. This 2.5 is smooth and pretty torquey once it's sorted out.
-
This is what it would look like on 32's. May step up to them in the future, but I don't want any more lift. Hanneman?

Thanks man! I heard rumors of a LWB 4x4 with a blown up 2.8 sitting in Dog Canyon that some old guy is practically giving away. I may go investigate in the near future.

Ok, so now for some long overdue updates. Nothing major, I just keep hacking off little bits on my to do list. The Duraliner took a while to dry out. It smelled like ammonia the whole time, but now it's dry and looks pretty good to boot. I'm still on the fence about carpeting the MJ. I like being able to just hose it out and not worry about it. Anyway, on to the pics!

Thanks man! Been busy as hell with school, so I've just been driving it for now. I'm getting some free time now, though. Let me know when you want to see it. I'd LOVE for you to pick over my rig and give me pointers. :)

Will This Transmission Work For My 88 Mj

Stock to stock it'll be a pain to make it work. It's best to use OBD1 trannys to replace OBD1 trannys. If you use a Bajashifter, it MAY be easier, though I'm not 100% on that. -
You should have an 18 gallon tank. Where to buy one? I don't know, sorry. As far as the tune up stuff, I used an ACCEL universal wire set (roll your own), Champion plugs, and an ACCEL cap and rotor (more for the bronze contacts than anything else).

2Wd Front Axle/ Steering Maintenance
benjy_26 replied to relyt120's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I went with all Moog stuff on my 87. I think I spec'd a track bar for a '88 4WD XJ. It fit fin, even though my MJ is a 2WD. -

2Wd Front Axle/ Steering Maintenance
benjy_26 replied to relyt120's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree with the tire balancing, but I'd wait on the alignment (you'll have to do it anyway). I say install all new TRE's and a new, stock replacement track bar. Makebsure to inspect all the mounting points as Incommando pointed out. THEN align the truck. If no maintenance has been done, new TRE's arent out of the question. -
