    The Lost Mj

Great story! I don't know what I'm more jealous of, that you ordered brand new MJs for work, or that you got vacations ;) No doubt, you should buy that MJ!
  3. did you call the guy, or know him? Just wondering :)
  4. I'll measure the taper when I get a chance to pull both out, but I don't know if factory XJ rockers are even available anymore
  5. Hey man how close are the XJ rockers at the rear of the front door compared to the MJ rocker? In other words does the taper on the 4-door XJ rocker match the 4" depth at the end of the 39" span? I'm thinking a 4-door XJ OEM style rocker should be able to be easily modified to work. At worst, just cut off at the back of the front/only door and patched in... thx. Sorry I took so long to respond to this, I think an XJ rocker would be a great place to start, how close it matches the MJ rocker would depend on the quality of the XJ rocker. Most aftermarket rockers I've seen are way off compared to the factory parts.
  6. Wow, what are the chances of us having THREE 1971 Javelins here?! 71's aren't that common even on the AMC boards I think its awesome that you are finishing your dads car, good luck! If I can get anything meaningful done to mine I'll start a thread of my own this summer
  7. Hmmm, you could just list what you paid for MJs & sold them for I never sold one, so my list would be; $1200 $500 $500 $2200 (iirc on all)
  8. I know the HESCO head has been criticized for not making enough of a difference vs cost, we'll see what Edelbrock can come up with. At the very least, it will be a nice option to rebuilding a stock head. The aluminum by itself can help the engine tolerate more compression, but the heat loss from an Aluminum head has been criticized for costing HP, so some of the gain from more compression is a wash.
  9. http://theamcforum.com/forum/40l-edelbrock-cylinder-head_topic55254.html looks like they are working on them!
  10. How much more to have them paint the front spoiler to match the rest of the truck?
  11. its kinda weird how i got a set that looks like those orange ones (65$ off ebay?) And my truck won't start... The two bad ones I had wouldn't make any noise when i hooked up a little 9v battery to them, the ones that were functioning all clicked when I connected them. You could try each one, one at a time, and see if they respond or not. When I finally cleaned out my old ones, I used the same little 9v battery to cycle carb cleaner through them. It doesn't take much to operate the solenoid in them.
  12. I just figured my set somehow slipped by, the bigger problem for me was that they never responded to the messages. I came across the phone number a short time later, but never called it. So I probably could have gotten some attention to the problem if I called, but I had a lot of other stuff on my plate at the time, and let it go.
  13. They aren't the best 4.0L transmissions... but, yes, they are VERY easy to convert from 2wd to 4wd if you have the 4 wd output housing from a broken BA The output shaft on 2wd versions is splined all the way to beyond the speedo drive. unbolt the 2wd tailshaft mock up a 4wd tailhousing to get the proper shaft length marked cut the shaft bolt on 4wd tailhousing =instant 4wd trans
  14. I'll have to give the opposite review, back in 2011 I won an auction for a set of their injectors on Ebay at a great price, (Set of 6 UPGRADE 1987-1995 Jeep 4.0L Fuel Injectors #280742802809 $41+$4.95S&H on 09/27/11) they sat, sealed up in the package till I had time to install them on March 2012. 4 of them worked great.... but 2 did not fire at all. I messaged their ebay account, and their web site, but never got a response to either: http://comancheclub.com/topic/30518-id-these-fuel-injectors/ Ended up pulling them out, & cleaning/reinstalling the stock injectors.
  15. I never heard back from them (Precision Injectors) I messaged them through both Ebay, and their web site... I ended up pulling them out and putting the stockers back in.
  16. Every 4.0L I ever pulled the pan on had copper showing on the rod bearings, even the 80k mile one I was saving as a backup. Loose bearing clearances from wear = lower oil pressure With that much mileage, I wouldn't be afraid to use a slightly thicker oil.
  17. They're from the right era, and there's not many Bronco IIs left to need them, so you could run them if you like em. :)
  18. For truck 9's only the 66-77 Broncos are close in width, something like 57-58" wide, but are the bigger 5 on 5.5" wheel pattern
  19. Lincoln Versilles [sp?] 9" rears were 58-60" wide (I forget now) 5on4.5" wheel pattern, and the hot ticket back in the day, tough to find now though. Mustangs from 68 or so, till the Mustang II came out are also a good MJ width if you can find one. Granadas also got some 9's but I'd guess the junkyard supply of them is long gone as well.
  20. Ford Bronco II wheels they probably put them on early rangers too, but I've always known them as Bronco II wheels I think the centercaps even had a slash line through them so the rears would match the ft locking hubs
  21. :yeah that: I had some pretty awesome memories with this friend, seemed like anything mechanical I did with him worked out perfect on the first try. Swapped a V8 into his V6 GM by sliding the mounts to where they looked good, bolted them in & the engine dropped in perfect the first time. Same thing with his cam swap, even the timing chain cover popped right back into the oil pan (that never happens) He was my good luck charm, made me look like I knew what I was doing when I didn't. Later on in life when we both *grew up* he gave me credit for getting him started as a mechanic. Undeserved credit, he was always a mechanic, he just didn't know it till we started working on his car together :) Thank you! God bless you and yours as well.
  22. 2 years today..... Sorry to bump a sad thread to the top guys, I just didn't want the day to go by without some acknowledgement. I miss you buddy. :( http://www.currentobituary.com/Memory.aspx?Memory_ObitdID=102843
  23. Thanks Jim, it looks better in pics than in real life :D The little guy REALLY REALLY wants to do the troop seats & cargo cover, so, if he has his way, yes we will.... but it will probably be fabricated on the cheap by me, instead of with all the $$$ reproduction hardware. Thanks Jon, your Wagon is way too nice for that, this truck is more biodegraded than it looks in the pics so a little salt & snow won't hurt it.
  24. My celly camera is starting to crap out, but here's a couple more pics: my building partner: interior new mechaical water temp & oil pressure gauges: ancient canister oil filter: available at NAPA of course :D Chrysler Splash Proof Distributor (IAT type): Accidentally ordered reversed style points for the IAY style distributor:
