  1. Learn something new every day. I knew what it was, and why, but I never noticed that early 4.0Ls didn't have them.
  2. Oh, and one more fail, since not everyone goes to bed with a full belly, the circlejxrk of turning corn + energy + diesel + more energy into MPG killing Ethanol also consumes water, fertilizer, equipment & farmland that could better have been used to make FOOD.
  3. It sucks it takes more than a gallon of gas worth of energy to plant, fertilized, grow & harvast the corn, Nevermind the energy it takes to turn that corn into ethanol. Nevermind also that the gallon of ethanol then REDUCES the mpg of the engine that consumes it, while reducing the shelf life of the gas, AND destroying parts of the fuel system it runs in. Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail all the way around. Ethanol is so corrosive they can't even ship it via pipelines like every other fuel, further adding to its transportation cost. So make that fail fail fail fail fail fail.
  4. Thanks! (sorry for the thread side track)
  5. They're good axles, the housing can bend if you beat it enough, but adding a brace will take care of that. Also, you'll need the little insert that goes between the axle shafts if you keep the stock, tapered style wheel bearings that require preload. Aftermarket axles like Mosers usually come with non-preload style 'green' bearings, that don't use the insert-spacer, but some have complained about lower load capability of them. B-body Mopars late 1960's-1970= ~59.5" later B's are wider & E bodies are around 61" I've had a 69' B-body Mopar Dana 60 with green bearings in my MJ since 1999 or so, bearings have held up fine & the slightly narrower width isn't a big deal. (D60 was the factory upgrade axle over the 8.75 when a 4spd was used behind a Hemi, or 440, axle width & wheel bearings/brakes were the same as the Mopar 8.75)
  6. Where did you order it from? I noticed Rock Auto had a couple 100a alts for pretty cheap, but I didn't see a Bosch
  7. I think he's talking about adapting the GM 305&350 TPI upper manifold & runners to a custom lower intake that fits AMC V8's. Doesn't the TPI setup also control the distributor & timing? I'm sure many would be interested in it,the only negative for me would be that the TPI upper is a GM icon, not sure how I'd like Chevy-izing the top of my AMC.
  8. Happy Birthday Jim!!
  9. I got ridiculous amounts of FSJ stuff for the 73' J4000 I had at the time, they always had a bunch of Grand Waggies, so I got a pair of power GW doors, seats, under dash ac ducts, etc etc. Also had my pick of 2 or 3 Rhino grille set ups. Should have grabbed all of them, but who new they would be so popular 15 years later.
  10. We used to hit all the grabathons the junkyards around here would have, $20-50 all you could CARRY out. I made a 5 gallon bucket into a 2 wheeler with some wheels & a handle, to wheel my tools around in. I'd strap it to my back to carry out, but wheeling it around the yard saved my back while 'shopping'
  11. Very nice! I'm not sure how you keep finding 30-60 year old Jeeps with less rust than our 8year old minivan, but nice work  build thread?
  12. Depends on what you plan to do with it, but it will probably be pretty gutless either way. I wouldn't sink the money for a 4.88 swap if it wasn't going to be much of an improvement over the 4.10s you have now. If you were lucky enough to find a set of factory 4.56 axles cheap, I'd probably do that, but for all the $$$ a 4.88 r&p swap is going to cost, you probably still won't be happy with the results. How is it now for power? What size tires are you running?
  13. Use the MJ engine brackets the YJ brackets actually offset the engine in the engine bay to to he opposite side. And use the MJ 90 degree oil filter adapter the YJ filter comes straight off the side of the block. You can use the standard thread YJ screw in adapter with the MJ 90* mount if you choose to ditch the funky metric filter of the Renix and go with a conventional filter. I did my 92'YJ 4.0L into 88'MJ 4.0L swap a little differently than Cruiser (the hard way?) details are in the Trail MJ build thread in my sig below
  14. for anyone else reading this, its not hard to make your own keys, the tough part is getting the lock cylinder apart. Once you can get at the tumblers you file down the blank key you started with till all the tumblers are centered. Just don't take the shortcut for.the door lock and try to match the glove box lock instead (like I did). The glovebox lock uses the same key, but with one less tumbler. So a key made to fit that lock won't have the last groove cut to fit the door lock.
  15. Lol to each his own. it looks like that truck probably belongs to the guy who posted the pic (stacks), so I guess it works for him ;) :)
  16. I was moving something with a buddy over the summer and he laughed when he saw the old school folding arms :) said, wow this truck is OLD That's when I knew I liked them better than cables
  17. Another rare option for MJ Exports to Egypt and Venezuela shown in the parts manual was a 24 VDC electrical system in the HO years. My question is, Why? :hmm: The only advantage I can see is that the wire size can be smaller because the load devices do not draw as much amperage at 24V. I never saw that option, but there were also export high pinion D44 fronts & Cherokees with cargo dividers in place of the rear seat.
  18. I've had these same wheels on my 2wd for years with no spacers or any issues. I just had to remove the center cap from the wheel. I hit the wheel bearing cap with silver paint every year or so when it starts looking cruddy, but that's it.
  19. My advice, save EVERYTHING you unbolt from it. if you keep it long enough you will appreciate having all the original parts tucked away some day. EVERYTHING :) Good luck, you have a fantastic MJ there
  20. Taller tires will knock the RPMs down a bit, if you were planning on bigger tires after the 4x4 swap, move the schedule up & do the tires first :) Sounds like you have 4.10's right now, 32's would knock a bunch of RPM off at highway speeds
  21. 2001 XJ buckets with a kid sized racing bucket in between I had to space the buckets out a bit to fit it, and I put a door on the home made mount to make it a lock box
  22. That makes two idiots here then because that's the way i do it. I don't think of it as being an idiot. I think of it as doing what's necessary when you work alone. Jim, I would expect nothing less :)
  23. I'm not sure what caliber these were, but they make good sized tool boxes
