Bump for this thread. Next week is the show, need to make something happen. Pat, did you ever find them? Anyone else have a set? Rob -
I found one today that would be cheap. It isn't a show winner by any means, but if you guys would be interested, I can pass the info along. '92 Eliminator, 4.0L, AW4, 231, 120K. Pretty rusty, the fenders are all cut from being a wheeler, and the floors are gone... But it runs like a champ, and I think the frame is in decent shape. Rob

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche

Thanks brother. Initially, I hated the chrome. With a passion. Those rails and the box were leaving. The grille was leaving. Bumpers were gone. Wheels were gone. Red interior? I have 3 Black sets in the attic. The thing in it's entirety has grown on me. The chrome looks "Right" on it now. The grille looks amazing. The wheels complete the look. The bumpers tie it all in. The red interior is its personality. The truck definitely has a personality. I don't want to ruin that. With all that said, the clearance lights still have to go. They look too out of place, and they made holes in the body. Rob -

Alright guys, now's your chance. I sent Brandt a link to our thread, and here is what he had to say: Brandt, thank you so much for being open to doing this, and taking time out of a busy schedule for us knuckleheads. I can't even begin to tell you what all this means to us. Well guys, any more shots you want before they tuck it back in? Rob

I've been emailing him once every few months since he said that he would be up to taking pictures of it. He pretty much told me that it was buried (I mean who would ask for it besides us) and that if stuff ever got moved around, he would wash it and take some pics of it outside. I would have been perfectly happy with dirty inside pics, but there are some super secret things going on, and he can't have pics out. When I called him before the Detroit meet and greet, this was the case. He told me that there was no way we could go in there because they had some special projects that were going on that only the top top guys in Chrysler were allowed to see. When I offered to go in blindfolded and be lead to the truck he just laughed and said that there were parts everywhere from the project and that we couldn't see it. I did send him a message tonight telling him that I posted the pics and that we wanted to say thank you. Hopefully he will stop by. Rob

Out in the world! Parked and ready to try to make the 10 mile journey to work tomorrow. See what happens. Still making that odd "Groan" that it did before I did the belt. I'll make mention of it to the shop when they do the timing. It would be nice to just have someone else run the ball for a little while. I took a video of it running when I got back from a half hour or so drive. I have a coolant leak at the pressure vent nipple on the radiator, but it's nice that it's not spewing oil like it was the first time I attempted driving it back in November. EFVwx0G1YNw Rob -

8-10 PSI. Rob -
I already had sent multiple questions along with and after emailing my address, I haven't received any responses. I was questioning whether or not we were going to get the CD at all because I never got a reply. Dunno. From what I understand, there is one guy running the whole archive with 230 some vehicles to look after, and special projects on the side. He wasn't kidding when he said that it has been almost 2 years to the day since I first contacted him about the pics. Rob

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
All my research and information seeking is really pointing the other way. It seems that overseas where people have the intelligence and the diligence to take care of the maintenance of them, they last a long time. I had someone from Italy or France stumble on to some of my posts/videos, and he was raving about it. Over here, they have a bad rep because we just never had the diesel savvy small shops and repair places to take note and perform the needed maintenance. I keep hearing that the power should be adequate, I'm just thinking that the pump isn't in time, and that's why I have my lack of power. Rob -

Couple more updates today. I finally got everything back together, and have been tinkering with it. Here's a video. -W3U9izSOQI Pic of the idle stop, before I moved it... I had to move it until it touched the throttle and then some. Cover back on. I got it all back together today, and once that throttle was stepped up a bit, I took it around the block a couple times. It still has absolutely no power. I am really hoping that the timing is off. If this is really all I have, I will be grossly disappointed. I mean, I'm not sure what 85 horsepower is supposed to feel like, but I hope it's not what I currently have. D-day is next Wednesday, so we will see what happens. Rob -
Your build date will be on the drivers door. As for that, it is a build date, but it's more of a production time stamp. You can find them on various parts. It's not saying your truck was made then, just that the part was finished on that day. Rob

I totally forgot about this effect with eclipses... How cool would it be to set up a board with an array of holes facing the sun. Would make an excellent artsy shot on the other side with the light that cast through. Rob

What you probably also missed was the 120 MPH "Certified Calibration" Speedometer that is found just above it. Only available on those fleet models where you find the switches. Rob -

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche

More good news guys. I finally got the temp gauge working, so I can feel free to putter around or let it run for longer without worry of not knowing the temperature. I've been searching for some time to have someone who has an idea of what they are doing take a look at the static timing and the idle on it. I thought I had a home run when I went to the guy a town away. He's been a European import guy since before I could even remember, so I thought I would be a shoe-in. His sign is even a Bosch service sign, and his lot is always filled with BMW's, Mercedes, a Porsche or two, and the occasional Rolls. A guy at work takes his Subaru there for service, and he always has great prices and service. I went in there to ask about having him do the work. He got as far as me telling him what kind of engine was in it, and he stopped me. His reply was that the "Renault has just enough Peugot influence on it that I want nothing to do with it." Great. The guy who works on the weird stuff says my stuff is too weird for him... Ugh. Yesterday, one of the guys at work and I were talking, and he mentioned someone I had forgotten about. In the town I work for, there is a guy who runs a small shop, and breathes diesel. Having nothing else to lose, I decided to stop over there after work and see what he thought. I told him what I had. He sounded up to it from the get go. He started asking questions about it that helped me trust that he knows enough to give it a shot. His reputation also sup-recedes him also. He looked up the general labor times, and estimated he could check/adjust the timing on it, and play with the idle for $150-200. Sold. I am bringing him the FSM's on Monday to page through, and hopefully schedule an appointment for next week. (He's booked until then). I am also going to check and see if I can hang out when he does the work to learn. Can't wait to have it be-bopping around this summer! Rob  -

High revving tach, inop temp gauge.
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've spent some more time playing with it this week. Driving me batty for sure. I took the grounding advice, and tried that. With all my wires, jumpers, and insanity trying to track this down, the truck looked like spaghetti. Just in the testing phase, I wanted to ensure the ground on the dash was good. I took the jumper cables I had, clipped them to the dash ground and the other end straight to the neg. I also had a reference wire to the valve cover, the stud of the sensor, chassis ground off the block... I still had nothing. Then I took apart the cluster to inspect the back of the gauges in question. That's when I remembered that I had a few 3/4 clusters of what I thought were about the same vintage. For those who don't know, on the older style clusters, once you have the bezels off the gauges you can just pull them out without pulling the whole cluster. The 3/4 gauges unfortunately have a paired fuel light and temp gauge, so I had to pull the fuel gauge out to try it out. I started the truck, and kept my foot about 1/4 of the way in it, wanting to see some movement. Then it happened. Movement. Wondering if the old gauge would register, I then tossed that back in. Success!!! While I don't have the tach fixed yet, this is the one I was really worried about. At least at this point, I can start driving it around. I wasn't about to drive a truck around with an engine made of soft metal without knowing what the temp is... But anywho... The bigger of my problems seems to be corrected for now. Rob
