  1. Searching for a pair of OEM visors with the 2.1 L diesel starting procedure on the flip side intact. MJ & XJ should be identical. Prefer camel or tan but any color will work. Answer here or hit me up at 609-412-5935. Thanks! ALSO, ANYTHING YOU MAY HAVE PERTAINING TO A 2.1 MJ!
  2. In search of a sacrificial LB rust free on the East Coast. Everything I've found so far is too expensive or too nice to chop up. Need a bed, both cab corners and rear bumper. What's out there?
  3. That's your video? Saw it. Kicks @$$. Ill PM you later about that emblem horse trading. I saw the gold TD badge but I really don't want go in that direction. After browsing all Jeep designations last night I searched for Renault emblems. At the very end, up pops chrome 2.1T ( for turbo) badges in the correct font and size. I ordered them both! I can already picture guys trying to figure out a 2.1T emblem rather than the standard 2.5, 2.8 or 4.0! Parking lot fun at its best.
  4. REALLY? The Arctic blast here still has me pinned down. It's parked right out my back window, so it's teasing me 24/7. The PO had tags on it and drove it all over Jersey. Says if feels like a 2.5 gas but with more low end grunt. I'll take some more pics as soon as I get under it to try and ID suspension it's sitting on. How can you tell which transfer case was used? I've read that Selectrac was available for the 86 4x4 MJ only then starting in 87 they just offered Commandtrac. Can't recall the NP2xxx? numbers off hand, but Selectrac has a viscous link between axels and Commandtrac has a solid link that rips apart on dry roads. I'm tracking down badging in my down time since most of it is missing including the Turbo Diesel gate emblem. My tail light pinching brother says he'll make a video to post when we get a battery back in it and get it idling. Until then I have to listen by memory!
  5. Your best learning curve is going to come from the hands on experience. Best thing you can do as a beginner is to document with pictures and sketches of everything you are taking apart. Keep organized and invest a few bucks in zip lock plastic bags and a few sharpie pens. Label everything and keep it all together with your disassembly pictures. Also, throw NOTHING away until the project is over. I've done at least 8 trucks over the years and have not tossed anything yet! Good luck and be patient. Before you know it you will have that million $$$ rig and be looking to start another.
  6. Those who can read a VIN#, what's this one say? 1JTBL6576GT086883.
  7. Did anyone else see this on CL last week?
  8. Ten inches of snow overnight. No progress today. Did find a 1985 Renault J repair manual on eBay this morning for 24.00. That will fill my head with probably just enough knowledge to really get me in trouble. Wondering how tough a rear main leak repair is on this thing.
  9. Thanks for your help with the images. I'll put on a fresh pot of coffee when you are ready to grab a wrench, too! 8)
  10. I know the credo. It don't exist without pics! They are coming with a little help from a friend.
  11. Followed up a reputable tip yesterday and found my White Whale. I did a little better than Ahab in capturing it. I'm still alive. I was asked not to divulge the sale price by the PO. Seems he was being inundated with offers and some were getting "edgy". A 1986 diesel Comanche X. Runs and drives. Sounds like an older Cummins when idling. The body is all there and the frame is solid. It's needing a driver side floor pan, rocker panels and bed repair at the wheel wells. Not sure where to start. My gut tells me to go over the motor first and then worry about the bling. Guess I'll start with a good cleaning and look for leaks and put a belt on the AC compressor to see what happens. Any suggestions?
  12. PHOTOBUCKET DOES SUCK! I AM JUST AS SMART AS A BUCKET OF BALL BEARINGS AND BEAR TRAPS AND I STILL can't MAKE IT WORK! AAGGHHH!
  13. Great color. Love the stance. Fiat (ya know, Jeep) should put you in the skunk works and start building these things again! Spot on, Brother!
  14. That's great that you are getting the formal vocational training. It's refreshing to hear from a youngster that college is not being wasted on artsy fartsy courses and "party time". At least you will end up with a viable skill. As for our "extra salty" roads, some rigs fare better than others. It all depends upon the owner and how they treat it. I don't pick up rust buckets. I find Jeeps tucked away in the oddest places and many do not make the cut. If it wasn't worth salvaging it would have been pulled apart by now. Being on the left coast, were too far apart anyway. Good luck in your local search for that project. It will pop up in the damnedest place!
  15. Just checked the Portland CL. At least 6 MJ's several under 1500.00. "There's no place like home...there's no place like home..."....I had a Jeep named Dorothy once but that's a long story requiring too much Tequila. 99)
  16. Where you coming from, son? I have a SWB 2wd 2.5L donor in NJ. $800.00. Motor is shot & out of truck. Interior is rough but base is solid. Shipping? Again, where you be.
  17. Nice that it was one of the cheap fixes. Now you can truely have a Happy New Year!
  18. I know, but at my age you make your fun where you find it or you spend the day sobbing in your soup about those missed opportunities. RAPPING, RAPING, WRAPPING (which is by the way what you do to Christmas presents or cold cuts); all great ball busting chances. Notice I didn't jump on your little red wagon about the misuse of WRAPPING....I'm half asleep with half my brain tied behind my back. ( can't help myself). 8)
  19. Ya know, laugh laugh chuckle choak, excuse me, cough; ya got a valid point there. Any engine making RAPING NOISES is basically screaming NO NO STOP STOP NOOOO! Best to listen and learn before things get outta hand, son.
  20. No intention of stealing your Thunder, Keemo-Sabbe. I hadn't noticed you mentioned that in your previous post. Just trying to help the guy. Y'all have a great New Year and keep it in gear.
  21. LOL! My Fine China determines " running well" as anything that gets her from point A to point B without catching on fire. 3)
  22. I usually draft my neighbors pet chimp to help me bleed my brakes. He works cheap and only throws poop at me if I run out of Mt. Dew. I sit in the Jeep and pump up the peddle while he climbs under each wheel and wrenches the bleeders. I tried it the other way around but all he does if he's in the cab is futz with the radio and steal the change out of my ashtray. The biggest mistake I've seen guys make is not bleeding the lines all the way trough. Any pocket of air left in the line will create that soft peddle feel. 8)
  23. A common source of a flowing oil leak is the 50 cent oil sending unit on the side of the block. Simple fix and a frequent overlook.
  24. What does " freshen it up " mean? You want to repair it or "doctor it up" for the auction block? Geez Louise, man, fix the thing! If you try to patch the problem and pass it on to the next guy, there will be NO PLACE IN JEEP VALHALLA FOR YOU! I know I would be Intetested in a nice 92 MJ. Don't have one of those yet. If you do not want to properly fix her, put her up for sale. I'll make you a decent offer. Then I'll replace the flippin' head gasket and add that 92 model year to the collection. Let's have more details on the truck and some nice pics! 8) 8) 8)....hope that gives you incentive to crack open the tool box before it gets too late! What's the oil look like? Is it milky yet or is the coolant still just blowing out the exhaust?
  25. Bad bearing. Just starting. Our man has keen hearing. Probably spending lots o time fording the creek. Too much water. That's why so soon....
