4x4 Conversion with NP242. Clarification needed.
dragordie replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
242 T/case is what I have ran or swapped into all my last 3 ZJ truggys I have built. Also its what is in most H1s. On the H1s they add cooler lines like an automatic trans has. Add a Hack n tap and your ready to go. I personally like the 242 not a lot of aftermarket goodies like 231. This is the T/case which is in my Rock Frog MJ -
Wow almost feel like a man without a country lol. All alone in the great salt-belt of northwestern Indiana

dragordie replied to dragordie's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Pics of todays progress Needing to tuck away and loom some of this wiring. lastly with engine running and all the lights working. No check engine light but abs airbag lights no biggie. next fabbing up a new dash. figure out what I'm going to do with the rearend than brake lines and drive shafts. 75 degrees today and tomorrow but lake effect snow Saturday. Rock Frog might be sitting out in the cold and given up on until spring. -

Success I have most of the wiring completed. I can now start it with the key in the ignition switch. Have high and low beams right left turn signals with 4 ways. So much time wasted on getting the timing just right. By this time I should have been driving it on test runs. Calling for 72 degrees tomorrow than Saturday and Sunday lakeeffect snow and in the 30s. Gota love northwestern Indiana. Weather may hamper any further progress do to the fact I haven’t hooked the furnace up yet in the shop. -
Been rewiring Rock Frog with the 96 ZJ harness. Everything is going together great, but can someone tell me what this box is with velcro what it does and maybe give me a wire diagram. Is it for the wipers? I have 4ways right and left turn signals headlights bright an dim ignition switch all wired up and working. .

Stroker is up and running now with no ckeng lights on. Now have the stock tilt steering column wired to the 96 harness. I can now use the key to put power to the stroker. working on turn signals, 4 ways, horn and wiper's. Also still needing to finnish the 242 tcase and than get the front and rear driveshafts made up. Undecided on fabbing up an all metal dash or put the Comanche interor back as it was. Using all the stock ZJ switches other than what's on my steering column. Also not going to use my shortbed going to build one. So bed tailgate taillights on the market. (Anyone else having issues with photobucket?) -
It is good to see some comanches owners from Indiana. I myself live by South Bend. Sorry to here that your deal fell apart Firemedic 493. Hang in their It took me a couple years before finding and buying mine. <><

Thanks Junkie & Jeeper for that info I wasnt even thinking about the turn signals and such. But what I looking for is the ignition switch controller which has these colored wires Yellow Brown Orange Red Green Black/white Gray/red violet I think the red is power into the switch and as you turn the key I believe it powers the yellow to power up the starter but not to sure. My ZJ has 7 wires to the switch and the mj has 8

I have searched all post (ignition switch wiring diagram on here and google, and bing) for the wiring diagram on my 88. What I have done is transplanted everything wiring engine trans t/case axles all from my 96 ZJ to my 88 MJ. I'm keeping the factory MJ steering column and need to splice the ignition switch wiring from the ZJ to my MJ. Does Anyone know what these wires go to, Yellow Brown Orange Red Green Black/white Gray/red violet Thanks and Have A Blessed Day <><

ZJ steering to MJ direct bolt on?
dragordie replied to 1989 comanche mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everything on my MJ was donated by my 96 ZJ Truggy. All the steering components where from a 98 V8 ZJ Plus I plan on doing a hydro assit with the gear box -
Still not running. counted the teeth on cam and crank gears cam (48) crank (24) they match up. lets go back to square one. as I have like 30 times in the last 3 weeks. pulled the distributor out. brought #1 cyl to TDC on compresion stroke spun my cam gear around watching until #1 exhaust valve closed and just befor the intake valve opens which allowed me to line up the cam/crank dots. cam is at like 4oclock and crank at 10 oclock crank keyway is at 12oclock turning the oil pump to 11 and 5 oclock locking in my distributor with a punch and dropping it in at 1oclock to rotate going down to the hold down. putting back the cam position sensor my rotors than fasting down my cap. and nothing turns over great I have spark and fuel but will not start. in saving time I have no radiator, timing cover . valve cover and thermostat cover off. temp sensor is immersed in water to prevent that from tripping a code. And oh yes not codes/ check engine light.. Oh so very confused.
