Can't Start Engine(Clicks Once)
Strokermjcomanche replied to Reedtech's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No if the CPS does not work you won't get spark therefore it's working . You wanna be carful about how much starting fluid you use also . My edjucated guess would be a fuel pump then -
A 1k for both sides !!!!???? Highway robbery, I'd do it for half except I'm in Ohio. you might as well buy a Dana 44 for that price. shop around see what other shops charge first .

Did you check for spark ? I wouldn't go throw parts at it yet you might be replacing parts that don't need changing . The filter is something that should be changed regularly so I'd changethat but check spark first -
You can in 4wd it has a dry slip yoke and a 242 t case no fluid will leak

Not necessarily but it wouldn't hurt to clean them . Right now make checking for spark your priority -

Most likely you would have a bad crank postioning sensor (CPS) and there are plenty of renix upgrades that can be done also ( cruiser) -

Still check for spark when you can get a friend , unless you have a timing light -

Water pump is the same , housing is the same also unless you wanted the temp sensor in the thermostat housing. on the renix there located at the drivers side towards the bottom of the block and the 91 and newer are located in the thermostat housing( to my knowledge it doesn't matter ) -

Ok to check for spark. if you still have one of you're old spark plugs Disconnect the spark plug wire at the spark plug on any cylinder , plug an old plug into into any wire that you disconnected and ground the spark plug base to a head bolt . Have a friend handy, take a pair of insulated pliers and hold the base of the plug to the head bolt while your buddy cranks it over. You should see a bluish spark if you don't see a spark let us know then well go from there -

Do you remember how you changed the wires/ plugs? Do you know if you're getting spark / fuel ? -

The firing order would not cause a 1 click problem . When the truck was parked was anything messed with until you started working on it ? If not I would pull one plug and one wire at a time and change them all which I know you changed them but if you put them in a different order it will not run. Being you have a Haynes manual locate tdc ( top dead center ) and make sure that the distibutor is at #1 cylinder and run the firing order correctly -

Do you have bigger tires / lift on your truck ? If you are easy on the drivetrain may I suggest cv shafts they are constantly lubricated and are less prone to failure when used for light duty . Most manufactures also offer lifetime warranties on the cv shafts so you'll never have to buy another -
