  1. I haven't stepped outside to check, but it looks like about 6-8" here in NJ. Kinda bummed because I wanted to pick up my newest acquisition today - '98XJ...gonna have to wait until next weekend :(
  2. Yea, my comment also comes with not knowing what the market is like in that area. I'm in central NJ, right between two major cities (NYC and Philly) and the market is flooded with XJs of all years, colors and, best of all, prices! I'm currently on the market for one myself, which would make three...
  3. Looks like a previous owner upgraded the wheels. I don't think you could have gotten those alloy wheels with the SE package. I believe they were an option on the Sport package and standard on the Classic. Question - does it have power windows, door locks, and mirrors? I think you paid a little too much for it, but you'll likely wind up getting enough value out of the thing to justify the cost.
  4. keep both, find another mashed xj, and use it. you can never have too many jeeps. besides, your shop is a barn. you have the room.... I DO have the room, to an extent. What you can't see pictured are three motorcycles, one MJ, two 3000GT VR-4's, Chevy Blazer, and a motorcycle trailer. They're not ALL inside - but even my outdoor space is becoming limited. I had another 3000GT last month and I literally gave it away to some kid because I needed the space. The barn also isn't really mine - my Dad has basically given it to me to use for my metal fabrication shop/auto shop so when he says there are too many cars - it's his word over mine. But, that's not to say I haven't been browsing the CL ads for another XJ :brows: The problem is I'm going to find it hard to justify spending any money on the thing since my two current XJs cost me a grand total of $600. Don't think I'm going to have that much luck a third time around, but we'll see...
  5. The donor has remained untouched other than the recent body work. My girlfriend needs it way more than I do right now. Although, after the expense I went through to get the frame straightened, I've been tossing around the idea of keeping the '99 donor intact and finding another XJ that has major rear end damage to use as a donor. After my girlfriend returns it, I may put it up for sale since there really is no good reason to scavenge parts from a Jeep in such good condition. Decisions, decisions...

    Linux Mint?

I speak from experience - stick with Windows. You're just asking for headaches if you basically just want all of your Windows stuff to work in Linux. I messed with Ubuntu for about half a year or so before I decided to wipe it from my hard drive. It was nice to have - very quick, easy to navigate, and I was a "cool" uber leet hax0r because I ran Linux. However, when new hardware came out that I wanted and it didn't list Linux as a compatible OS, I either had to wait until the manufacturer decided to support Linux or wait for some Linux computer geek to code a driver for it. This was about 4-5 years ago and I've noticed that a lot of newer hardware and software seem to be catering to the Linux crew so it's probably not nearly as bad now. After I wiped Linux from my main desktop, I decided to put it on an older PC I had lying around so I'd essentially have a Linux Box in case I needed it. I think I've turned that PC on about a dozen times in the last 4-5 years. I do like Linux and I'm glad its gaining popularity, but just wasn't for me.
  7. Current: See Sig Past: 1992 4.0L, AW4, 4x4, LWB 1986, 2.8L, Auto, 4x4, LWB Both of the past trucks were when I was just a wee lad and didn't know much about these trucks other than they were really cool! Even learned to drive at the age of 8 on the '86. I couldn't do much about it, but I really regret that our family did not hold onto the '92 as it was really, really nice. Had bucket seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, sliding rear window, and I think power door locks, windows, and mirrors (although I have yet to see another MJ come with those from the factory so I could be wrong on that).
  8. Got the '99 XJ donor all fixed up. Cost me a pretty penny to have a local body shop pull the frame back out into shape, but it appears they did a pretty good job as everything lines up again! Had the XJ for maybe all of 12 hours before I handed it over to my girlfriend for the next several months - hope she takes good care of it! Didn't even have time to paint the new body panels! Should blend in nicely with some of the other heaps that these college kids have...
  9. i thought that truck looked familiar Yea, was gonna add that the truck was on this site - Pretty sure it had its own build thread, too. I saw that truck pop up on CL a long time ago and went back and forth deciding if I wanted to buy it - I think it was priced at $3500 at the time and seemed out of reach for me...guess I should have haggled a bit! Oh well, good luck with the new truck - looks real clean!
  10. I'm converting my interior to the newer XJ style so I've got a bunch of these pieces. I'll take a picture of what I have pulled from the truck this weekend and we can go from there.
  11. Interesting. How is the heat transferred from the stove - which looks to be in a relatively remote location - to the house? Underground piping? Is the piping insulated or refractory lined?
  12. I'm not trying to be facetious here - but is burning trash common? We usually let the garbage men pick up our trash.
  13. Quoted for truth.
  14. I've read various write-ups, articles, and posts that say the 8.25 isn't much stronger than the D35. I can't bring any numbers to the discussion, but I've been pretty tough on my '01 XJ with the 8.25 rear end. It's approaching 170K miles and I'm starting to get a hint that the gears might be getting a little 'loose,' but it could also be that my transmission mount is crapping the bed. I'll be doing a fluid change on the 8.25 pretty soon so I can do a closer inspection then. On the flip side, I've been through two D35's on my '89 MJ although my D35 on my '88 is the original and is still going...
  15. Thanks for the tip. That kind of throws a monkey wrench into my plans, but I suppose I could leave the firewall unpainted until I do the steering column and wire routing...
  16. Not a fan of the cold and it has been that way for about 2 weeks now. Needless to say, without a heated garage, progress has been slow! Ok - progress has been non-existent. I also had to make a bit of a judgement call and I'm going to fix my donor '99 XJ and lend it to my GF for the next five months or so. Her family had two of their cars go down and it has caused my GF to be without a car for her spring semester of college. No big deal because she can just walk to class, but it'll be hard for her to do any grocery shopping or if she is working late in an academic building, I'd rather her drive back to her off campus apartment at night rather than walk. So, I've installed a new radiator in the '99 XJ donor, picked up a new passenger fender and front bumper and am sending it to auto body shop on Monday morning to have the frame stretched back in spec. I'll probably need miscellaneous brackets and other junk that got wasted in the accident, but I think I should be set. Anyway, it shouldn't necessarily delay the MJ transformation project too much as I have A LOT to do on the body of that truck. I've started to take off components to pull the engine, trans, and TC - then I'll strip the engine bay and repaint it and undercoat the bottom of the cab. I'll need to wait for warmer weather to get the painting done as 20-30 degree temps aren't going to let the paint set properly.
  17. Does your rich friend do the "park sideways and take up 2-3 spots so no one parks near my car" trick? People that park like that make me want to 'accidentally' send a speeding shopping cart in the said of said vehicle...
  18. He is serious, you just need a higher-def 23" screen to see it.
  19. Injectors stay open when you shut the engine down. Watch the consistency of the oil - if it starts getting very thin and "gas-like", you've got yourself gas mixing in with the crankcase oil.
  20. That was the best I've seen the Ravens play all year. Crossing my fingers they can keep that up, but they're going to need to learn to throw the ball if they want to compete against the Colts.
  21. For the people interested in purchasing netbooks in the future: I'm a bit of a computer geek. I think I have around 10 computers or so, most of them desktops, but four of them laptops. Each has its own specific purpose, but the one that gets the most use is my Samsung NC10 netbook. Prior to getting an iPhone, I would use the netbook for a few hours each day after work. The thing is incredibly convenient and the battery life on this particular netbook is ridiculous - around 6 hours during normal computing. It did take a little bit to get used to - especially coming from a powerhouse PC with a 24" monitor, but I did some tweaks, increased some font sizes and everything is good. The netbook is very handy when I go out on business trips or do some field engineering work. My only gripe is the touchpad, but I've never liked touchpads on ANY laptop - even bought a Lenovo laptop just for the old style nub in the middle of the keyboard. I bought a wireless mouse for the netbook to take care of that problem - an extra 25 bucks. It seems a lot of people are going for the 'bigger is better' trend in terms of screen size, but I seem to be going in the opposite direction. The 24" LCD monitor is nice and my 86" HD projector connected to my home theater PC is even nicer, but I'm very rarely in my home to even use these screens, hence why I've went with the ultra-portable netbook and now an iPhone. Edit: Also, another cool feature of the Samsung netbook (and this might be true with other manufacturers) is that they make a cigarette lighter charger for it for like 10 bucks.
  22. Sounds like it needs a good carb cleaning. My Honda Rancher 350 did the same thing and ran great after I went through the carb and cleaned the snot of out it.
  23. While it may be up for sale, his asking price leads me to believe he's not exactly looking to get rid of it anytime soon. Looks more like the type of sale where if someone DOES pay that amount, he'll gladly accept it and walk away. I'd be ecstatic if he actually got his asking price. It would be a step in the right direction for increasing the resale value of these trucks. Unfortunately, with KBB, NADA, etc, most people won't pay a dime over that. The used auto market is tough right now...I've have had three cars and a motorcycle up for sale for about a year now. My price keeps coming further and further down and I'm still not having much luck. I did GIVE a car away today...that one was really easy to sell!
  24. I installed my first 4.0 without the manifolds attached. That was the last time I did that! There is no conceivable way to get a torque wrench on to some of the bolts/nut with the engine in the truck. I had to do the "that-feels-about-right" torque technique...
  25. I bought myself an iPhone - and it is going to change my life forever. Talk about the most practical gift ever... My parents got me a 2 1/4 ton jack to go in my car for emergencies. Also got me a 12V air compressor and a tire gauge. I think they just cursed the tires on my XJ... Brothers got me gift cards to various places and a new battery for my DeWalt drill - the old one crapped out a long time ago and I haven't used the thing since.
