  1. Possibly both. It's just a hobby at this point in my life - I've got a 9-5 as my main source of income, but it never hurts to have a fallback plan. For now, I'm just looking for some ideas to get me tinkering with the machine.
  2. Heh - I sort of expected this as I've seen that a lot of Jeep owners are generally pretty savvy when it comes to fabricating their own stuff. I'm just getting tired of making metal art for my friends and family - I want to get into something more car-related.
  3. These sort of pick n' pull yards always baffle me. Cars rotting in the woods, old tires and gas tanks lying about. How do they get away with this kind of stuff? Although, I'm sure the environmental laws and codes of conduct in NEPA are a lot more lenient than the ones in the Yuppie town I live in...
  4. I could see them being similarly priced to the J-truck bedsides at around $180/side.
  5. Me and my buddy in Vegas (I'm on the left) Me and my girl (on the left haha) Wing eating contest (I won, I think)
  6. I placed the order for these lights via e-mail last week and just got them in the mail today. Definitely pretty good quality lights and 'switch' feel is solid. Total price came out to be a little under $15 shipped for each light. Thanks again for the info!

  8. I would use every part possible to essentially make a '98 MJ. I only suggest this because that is exactly what I am doing with my '98 XJ I picked up a couple of weeks ago - Theft recovery with a salvage title.
  9. You're pretty much contradicting yourself. This "widget" you want does nothing more than act as a shortcut to CC. Do you actually want it to DO anything besides get you to CC? What else could it really do, anyway? Notify you when there was a new topic? New Reply? That'd get annoying real quick.
  10. I was going to post up how both of these companies recently changed their policies to no longer allow Unlimited VIN checks, but it looks at though AutoCheck has gone back doing unlimited reports. I know I checked about two-three weeks ago and Carfax was only doing a discounted rate for 5 VINs (and this is still the case) and AutoCheck was doing a discounted rate for either 15 or 20 (but looks like its back to unlimited). I actually had a fellow run a Carfax report for me on a Jeep I was looking at and I also had an Unlimited AutoCheck account at the time. I wanted to compare the two and for that particular report, the AutoCheck was actually more detailed and contained more incident reports.
  11. So I have one of these: And also have one of these: I've had them for about 6 months now and have just finally gotten around to using it on a consistent basis. Had a ton of trouble with it in the beginning and very little help was offered by the manufacturer, but that's a whole different story. With the help of a fellow CNC hobbyist, I've finally got the thing working almost to my liking. So, if you guys have any ideas for some custom Comanche fabricated parts that I could cut out, let me know. Keep in mind that I do not yet have a mill or lathe (I should have a mill within the next two months, though) so I'm limited to just cutting 2D profiles out of steel, stainless, and aluminum plate. My cutter can do up to 5/8" steel.
  12. Looks like someone has a plasma cutter! What kind of machine do you have? I've got a thermal dynamics cutmaster 52. Best part about it is it's hooked up to a 4'x4' CNC table ;)
  13. Welcome to the club - nice to see another NJ'er. I used to date a girl from Middletown. Anyway - how do you expect me to buy another MJ if you guys keep snatching them up? Especially you, 88pioneer - you seem to go through MJs faster than I go through underwear :rotf:
  14. How'd you mount the tank?
  15. haha I love how even Chrysler refers to the armrests as 'hockey stick style.' I thought that was something Jeep owners made up ;)
  16. Thank you for the info and the pictures. I'm in the process of putting an order through for a pair of the lights. Their registration process and e-mail inquiry "whitelisting" is pretty ridiculous, but I guess it keeps out a lot of spam mail!

  18. So I take it this won't work for my drivers door hinges which have COMPLETELY ripped away from the pillar? :rotf:
  19. I bought mine from here...http://www.taillightking.com/hot_rod_light_assemblies.htm for $15 each, but from what Akula69 posted you can get the exact same lights here http://www.infiniteinnovations.com/main.asp?p=4_179 for $8.95. That second site sticks you with a mandatory $10 handling fee and I wasn't able to find their normal UPS ground shipping rate anywhere. So, assume $6-$8 for that and you're looking at about the same price as your first link. I refuse to buy from places that do a mandatory $10 handling fee...give me a break.

  21. So I got the '98XJ running today. Needed a new ECM and fuel pump - about $200 in parts. Runs real solid, as it should - it's just a baby with 71K on a 4.0L engine.
  22. What is it about XJs that make them so damn addicting. Maybe it's their incredible practicality, reliability, durability, and ease of maintenance. Not to mention they get good gas mileage, relatively speaking. I've owned and driven a few SUVs in my lifetime and the XJ just seems to be the best all around performer.
  23. I'm from pennington nj. I play ice hockey over at the Grundy rec center in Bristol pa a couple times per week.
  24. I had a feeling I wouldn't be alone on this message board ;) '88MJ SporTruck - the one getting the XJ facelift '89MJ Pioneer - currently a worktruck for the farm. Not registered for road use...yet '01XJ Sport - Currently my DD...I have been piling on the mileage...10K in five months '99XJ Classic - Before and after photos of the front end damage '98XJ Sport - Newest addition to the fleet (sellers pic - didn't have time to take my own)
  25. Like many of you, I'm addicted to Jeeps - especially really, really cheap ones. I guess it all started with both of my MJs being handed down to me from family members after they bought new vehicles. Neither of my MJs were in road-worthy condition, at least not in my opinion. So, to remedy that, I went out and got myself a donor '01 XJ Sport. The body was straight and the interior was decent, but the 157K mile engine developed a nasty rod knock. About a week after I purchased this vehicle (for the laughable price of $300 plus towing costs, although I probably could have driven it home...), my current vehicle at the time started having some overheating problems. I made a decision to hold off on transferring the parts from the '01XJ to my '88MJ and went ahead and threw a junkyard engine into the XJ, instead. The junkyard transaction was a brutal mess, but I won't go into the details right now. Once I got the '01XJ up and running, it became my main mode of transportation. I still wanted to bring my older MJ back to life with newer XJ parts, but I was now driving the donor...what to do, what to do? Well, a friend of mine just recently crashed her '99XJ Classic and she opted to buy a new car instead of fixing it. The poor XJ just sat in her backyard for a couple of months before I put up and offer to buy it. It was in pretty nice shape with 130K miles on a 4.0L and a very solid AW4, 8.25 drivetrain - no slop. My offer was accepted and the NEW donor XJ was delivered to my shop. So, then I receive word that my girlfriends family was going through a bit of a car crisis. Two vehicles in their fleet of four went down with some major issues and what was once my gf's car (a very nice '06 Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle Edition) was taken by her eldest sister so that she could get to and from school. Since I have an abundance of vehicles just lying around, I decided to get the frame pulled back straight on my '99XJ donor and lend it to my gf until her family can get the car situation straightened out. I wasn't giving up yet. Now that I put some serious cash into fixing the '99XJ, I no longer want to scavenge it for parts. I may wind up selling it when I get it back, or I may keep it for a backup - I'll cross that bridge when I get there. So, on Sunday...just minutes before I had to leave for a business trip in NH, I picked up a '98XJ Sport with 71K miles on a 4.0L, AW4, and 8.25 in the rear (4x4, but don't know what's up front, probably a D30). This little number was a theft recovery and has been branded with a salvage title. I got it because I will HAVE to make this the donor as I've looked at the process of getting the title recertified in my state and it is NOT something I want to do - or even have the right paperwork for. Unfortunately, the truck does not yet run as it's throwing an unusual P1694 code and none of the troubleshooting tips I have found for that error code have helped one bit. It's likely the computer or the CPS sensor, so I've purchased those to try and fix the problem, however, I'm in NH for the week and won't return to NJ until the end of the week. Hopefully I can get it up and running this weekend so I can start the donation process to my '88MJ. So, thanks for reading. I bet some of you have a similar addiction ;)
