Adjustable Ball Joint?

They're not true friends if they don't like your Comanche! -
Rear upper shock mount
Comanche County replied to jimbob3000's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Take it to a ratty looking muffler shop and give them 20 bucks to weld a bolt on to the mount for you so you can get a shock back on it.....(that is, if I'm envisioning the problem correctly). Or see if there's a member close to you,,,then bring beer....should be all that's necessary. -
another t-case linkage question.

Yeah, Novak has a cable shifter linkage that should be the cat's @#$%. Its on my MJ's bucket list. -
Adjustable Ball Joint?
Comanche County replied to Dave Stark's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you do a bit of research you'll probably find similar reviews of them that that led me to ultimately decide that they aren't worth it. Essentially, they cost too much and wear out much sooner than regular ball joints. However, you can get offset ball joints in .5 degree increments up to 2 degrees. Here's a couple of links that may help: http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoAlignment.htm http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/te ... joints.htm If you buy the beer I'll drive up the the Metroplex and help you out. -
I really don't like ethanol gas. It sucked at least 1-3 MPGs from every vehicle I've drove.

Need a recommendation for a head unit/radio
Comanche County replied to Comanche County's topic in The Pub
Thanks for the input guys.... I did just what you said....I went to Best Buy in Temple and played with the CDA-117, I liked it but they were retards and couldn't get any sound out of it, not the radio's fault. But I got to play with it some none the less. No one near me (within 100 miles) had a Kenwood 994 on display so I just did the youtube thing to check it out. I thought the Kenwood had better "ease of use" as far as the interface went so....I ordered it from crutchfield. It sorta puts a knot in my stomach because I too am a die hard Alpine fan. If the 117 had bluetooth in it, I probably would have went for it. But if the kenwood irritates me, it'll be on CL in an hour and a 117 will be on order to replace it. -
Most of the time "Waggy" is a FSJ when we're talking axles. If the subject is a front end (grill and head lights), then its from an XJ Waggy.

Road trip through BC, Canada – where should I stop?
Comanche County replied to 1990 Pioneer 4x4's topic in The Pub
I've taken that ferry ride twice. Once we slept out on the back deck of the ship, it has green house like walls and ceiling so its relatively warm. They call it a Solarium. From their website: The other time we got a room, but it didn't have any windows and there was a lot of engine noise. Either way was really fun. There's a really hiking trail in Sitka that is absolutely beautiful. However, most of the stops we didn't have much time to see a lot of places. Saw some Orcas, Dolphins, even Siberian pink Egrets that reportedly got lost in an El Nino and set up camp in SE Alaska. In a few of the towns I saw flyers about Bigfoot sightings in the area, hmmm. Also, I wish they had gambling on those boats. -

Yep, I'll bet you the 8.8 that I have that its the fuel pump. If I'm wrong you can have it, if I'm right, you can have it anyway. -
Need a recommendation for a head unit/radio
Comanche County replied to Comanche County's topic in The Pub
Yeah I like Crutchfield but they quoted me 2,600 bucks for the system. Each component was almost 50% over other online sources. I'm into it for far less than their quote so far. -
I'm redoing the sound system in the ZJ. I am stuck on which head unit to buy. I'm thinking the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994 or the Alpine CDA-117. I'm leaning toward the Kenwood because it has 4V preamp outputs and built in bluetooth. I hate talking on the phone in the car...I prefer to keep my hands on the wheel. But I've read a lot of bad reviews about software problems and compatibility issues with the Kenwood 994. I really don't have the $$ but the Infinity gold speakers in the ZJ were toast and I just couldn't take it anymore. I've already got two sets of Kicker 6.5" component sets, and some Kicker 12s for bass in the cargo area, plus two separate amps to run the components and the subs. Anyone know anything about receivers? I'd like the one I get to first - sound good, then also have the following features: Ipod/Iphone integration (with an easy interface), CD MP3 WMA and USB capability, Bluetooth, and a good array of equalizer/tone controls. I'd like to keep it under or around 300 bucks. I plan to pop on this in the next day or so.

Whoa, you reached deep into the 'way back machine' for that soundtrack.

I can't help but suspect that fuel starvation is the issue. Maybe the pump is on its way out, but working intermittently. I could be wrong. Can you drive it to Proctor? We'll get it fixed for sure. -
I knew someone would whip out a deep fried twinky.....ever had a deep fried oreo? mmmmm.

Question about gears
Comanche County replied to wldnrgrs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Slap some 32" or 33" tires on it. I bet your mileage will improve. -

One of my ZJs has 233K on the "Super" D44 or D44A what ever you want to call it and no problems that I know of. Might be an exception to the rule though. That ZJ is about to sell though. My other ZJ has one as well. It's got 156K and there's no problems with it either. Although I can hear some gear whine around 40-45 mph. It goes away any slower or faster. Problems with these are common. According to Randy's Diff book, it is also in one of the Corvette models as well as the Viper. Check out this page, I think he has a good set up with his: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/771987. Scroll down to see the truss he installed. I was going to replace mine with an 8.8 but decided I wanted to keep the ABS set up. I think I'll just keep run it till it breaks. :D

Oh yeah, I don't mean cutting the unibody all the way through. I'm trying to picture how it could be done while leaving the the frame rails intact. I envision you could "lift" the back of the cab off the rails, move it rearward, weld in floor panel patches, add the custom doors and everything remains straight and comparably just as strong as it was. Would be refreshing to see a quality dual cab Manche and I learn a lot on the build pages here so I'll be subscribed to your build fo sho!

I think an Sx4 with a transplanted XJ Engine, computer, and the entire drivetrain would be a cool ride.

For the engine I'd go with a Magnum 5.2 or 5.9. I've heard nothing but terrible things about the WJ 4.7 V8s. Except for the HO version, I do know the 4.7 HO owners love em and there's a never ending debate of which is faster, the 4.7 HO WJ or a 5.9 ZJ. But I've never seen a 4.7 with more that 120K, except in the JY with a seized engine. I'm sure they exist - somewhere. Of course, I own two 5.9s and I'm kinda partial to em. Other thoughts: I think you'll have to go with a Cherokee gas tank since you'll be shortening the front part of the bed. When you move the back of the cab rearward, I guess you'd have to box the top of that portion of the frame rail or take other measures to strengthen the frame. I read through the Onyx build thread numerous times, so I'm sure you're way ahead of me there. Well within your abilities,,,You can do it, no doubt.

I would buy it, but I'd try to get it as cheap as possible of course. SX4s hard to find, rarer than MJs by far (IMO). I'm not an expert on them at all, but recently I did a little reading about them. Check out amceaglenest.com. These are the original compact 4 wheel drive car and the 4x4 system was ahead of anything else at the time. Subarus are knock offs of Eagles (sorry Subaru guys). Highly capable and with the 4.2 you'd be getting a great engine. Plenty of aftermarket parts.
