Just picked up my 2nd MJ yesterday. (from the REZ) Call it Megan Joy because of the MJ (of course) and because Megan Joy is my daughter's name. My first MJ is Mary Jane as seen here.viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13953 Paid 100$ bucks for it. Got clear title with it. 98 % rust free. Put a battery and gas in it,aired up the tires, removed the ice machine and the rollbar from the back of the truck (PO wouldn't let me keep either one ). Put the nuts back on the fan pulley (somebody stole the fan) Made sure the fluids were full, fired it up and drove her the 30mi to my friends shop. Stopped at the dump on the way to the shop, cleaned her up a bit and this is what I ended up with. Check out the lift kit- front and rear springs (not AAL for the rears) LCA drop brackets, extended shocks. Pics of the engine compartment. Check out the dip stick wired to an injector,"REZ STYLE......." Looks like they had an oil leak........... Now the bad: BA-10 ready to live up to it's name,I have a replacement for it. Harmonic Balancer "doing it's thing",got a replacement for it also. Brakes need to be gone over. Tires shot.......what can I expect for a hundred bucks? Future plans: The kid I bought her from "Rode her hard,Put her away wet" He told me that he could spin out all 4 tires, then he said he didn't know he shouldn't do that because of the BA-10. The truck was full of empty beer bottles, and spent shell casings. Almost forgot a pic of the gun rack. Uh Oh I think I might be having a flashback. Since I'm starting school next month, and I already have a lifted build going on, and don't have an extra set of 31's laying around,I think I'm going to take the lift off of the truck, return it to stock ride height. Tune it up,fix the mechanicals, dings and dents, give it the easy life for a while. I think I'm just going to use it for a grocery getter. Got an aluminum topper for it yesterday for 25$ bucks. Maybe,in the future things will change, as I'll still have a lift kit for a Comanche stashed away somewheres...............

Nice project. Welcome back to the addiction! So how much did it cost to get you back? and as we all know, that's just the beginning of a long relationship between your wallet and your truck! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Guess it would depend on how big your trailer is,and if you have any lift on your truck. there should be a gross tongue weight and max pulling capacity posted on your bumper. If your bumper is bent or has any structural issues,or if you have any doubts about it I would recommend replacing it. the only receiver hitch I found online was this one http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-1990_Jeep_Comanche.htm kind of pricey, but I'm sure that with a more extensive search a cheaper one could be found.

how do you get air out of cooling system?
64 Cheyenne replied to J B Cuz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
On my friends Renix, he put a HO style Tstat housing with a radiator petcock in it to "burp" the system. Just crack the valve when filling, maybe do it again after a short run. simple. -
The clutch doesn't have to be low on fluid to be toast. Riding the clutch, using it for roll control, two of the worst driving habits (controls wise) that I can think of. Anybody who uses a clutch like that has been taught to drive a stick incorrectly,IMHO the person who taught them that shouldn't be driving a stick either. My dad taught me to drive when I was 10yrs old (on a stick) he told me girls drive like that (ride the clutch). All girls don't ride the clutch. My 10 yr old daughter doesn't ride the clutch,(she made me put that in). He taught me that the pedal is either in or out, then your done with it. Granted, he never wheeled like we do but you get the idea. Clutch disk/linings could be worn out. Myself I'd replace the whole thing. Clutch disk, pressure plate,throwout/slave assy.Inspect the flywheel for heat stress or cracks, resurface if possible or replace.

Quote:there was no power going to the front axle at all as far as I could tell - (i can see the driveshaft and tires through the floor) Do you mean that the front DS wasn't spinning at all, when the truck was rolling?
-
If our trucks had mechanical clutch linkages then theoretically they could be adjusted too tight not allowing it to fully engage. This would also burn out the throwout bearing quickly as it would be spinning under load all the time. Clutch is hydraulic(can't be adjusted),even if the fluid level was low that wouldn't directly cause it to slip. Indirectly, the loss of the fluid contaminating your clutch from a failed slave/throwout bearing would. Your clutch can be "bled" - like doing your brakes. If this was the case, then your clutch wouldn't disengage. I know this is on your donor truck, but if you have plans on using this clutch, sounds like time for a new clutch assy. As suggested many times replace the slave with the factory replacement part only. Aftermarket ones seem to have a short service life.

:agree: I'd get a frame mounted receiver hitch with whatever drop you need to tow level. Besides nothing looks more DumbA$$ than pulling a trailer with the tongue way too high.

What to do if your hood release cable breaks
64 Cheyenne replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I oiled my cable when I had the hood open, like when doing an oil change. (hint hint) The hood in the open position allows gravity to carry a drop or two of oil from my oilcan into the open end of the cable. After the cable freed up I thought something else was wrong because the hood mechanism was so easy to pull. -

Engine cuts off on longer runs
64 Cheyenne replied to Carolina Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think it's losing spark. I'd check the crank position sensor. My friends XJ did the same thing, when it got hot, the insulation going to the CPS was getting hot and shorting against the exhaust manifold. -
clogged cat vs. open headers
64 Cheyenne replied to ocskipper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I punched out the cat on my 90 caravan and experienced a loss of MPG. This is what I did to my truck. Punched it out, tubed the inside. don't know how well it'll work as I don't see the truck being done till this Fall or Winter. -
Windshield/Dashboard Bummer
64 Cheyenne replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
First off, I was not going to replace the dash. Why would I have wanted to do that to an unbroken, undamaged dash? My plan was to put a carpet cover on it like I do to all my other vehicles. Just cause I was going to cover it doesn't make it alright that it got damaged. Yesterday I talked to an attorney about this, short of the story is this: I have a new WS in my truck. I paid him 100$. I still owe him135$. My dashboard is damaged. I won't let him touch my truck again. He cannot put a lien on my truck because it was never in his possession. After speaking to that attorney ,I have decided to "let sleeping dogs lay". If he wants to take me to court, let him,I'll counter with the damages. And to anyone who has a shiny truck,or who has said the dash was "ready to go" would you have the same attitude and think "oh it's OK, that dash was old and ready to go" Heck no you wouldn't,It would have happened to "YOUR" truck and you would have been Pissed. My truck is a labor of Love, mine,It keeps me sane. I don't appreciate anyone who devalues or minimizes the value or damage to my truck. And that is all I have to say. -

The dash was perfect. Just dirty. Like I put in one of my earliest posts, I think I got "Grandpa's" truck. It has a whole bunch of service receipts of before I got it. The damage was done with a tool like this: http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/equaliz ... -1033.aspx The guy was yelling at me on the phone demanding the rest of his payment, saying that if I don't let him install a JY dash that he is buying then he is going to take me to court for the balance. I called the Office of Consumer Protection in my state and plan on pursuing this matter till my truck is fixed or that i'm satisfied with the end result. Him take ME to court,I already looked into countersueing him. Have to say though, this is already eating up more of my time than I want to give. -
Nice shiny cover. IMHO I would spent my effort on doing something about that r/side brake line. That kind of looks like trouble to me. When it comes to brakes,NO SHORTCUTS OR COBBLED TOGETHER STUFF ALLOWED,EVER! That brakeline is both.

I hear your point, what with the truck being 22 years old. but I feel your overlooking a few important points. First and foremost,I requested a job to be done on my truck, in good faith I believed that I would be getting a good product and that I'd be happy with the results. The guy does not advertise, gets all his jobs by referrals and word of mouth.I was referred to him by a friend who is pretty upset about all of this because she sent me to him.I did not expect to be told "sorry" for the damages because it would be inevitable. I looked up "Classic Car",most States and Insurance Companies vary on their definition. To me our trucks are "Classics" by a few different points of criteria. 1. My truck is 20+ yrs old. 2. It's the last "Truck" Jeep made. 3. I have 4k + invested in this truck, not including my labor. 4. It's unique to me. And besides all of that, who's to decide that it's OK for my truck to be damaged and not be repaired to my satisfaction. How much different would it be if it was a 22 yr old Malibu,Z28,Vette,or a Ferrari. Heck,if your Yugo was 22 years old and was rust free (My truck is 99 pct. rust free) wouldn't you be POd to see the dash damaged? Besides where you gonna get a nice Yugo dash in the color that matches. Last of all, I don't believe in minimizing. That's like being just a little bit pregnant. -
NP231 confusion? Help please!
64 Cheyenne replied to SkipshotMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm missing something here. What are you trying to do? Where did the TC come from,Your truck? -
Ya, the valve should be tucked up in the frame on the left side, kind of to the rear of the axle. It has an arm and a linkage that attaches to that bracket. Hope you can keep or reapply for that plate. I think it's kind of cool! In my state the seller keeps the plates.
