  1. After I have driven my comanche for about 10 miles or so, then stop and move forward slowly, I hear a noise coming from the rear of the truck. It is not a grinding noise but sounds like a creaking sound. Like something is sticking or something. Very difficult to describe. Is this normal? It is a d44 and the original axle.
  2. I also found that Krylon Cherry Red is almost a direct match to Jeep Colorado red. The cap isnt close but the paint is. I used it to paint my floor boards. I couldnt believe how close it was.
  3. She is now at 61
  4. Norway? I bet you are discouraged every time you leave a salvage yard. :rotfl2:
  5. I am in northern Indiana and the winters here can be pretty bad. Most Comanches are long gone. The junkyard ones are usually pretty rough with nothing left but a pile of rust. The corner I found came from a truck that caught fire. The same with my bed and they were different trucks. In other words, in hindsight, I got lucky. By the way, don't take this wrong but snow today? That really sucks... :rotfl2:

    My New Jeep

Amen. Just sit back, smile at the sky and pay your taxes. Remember, paying taxes is a privilege. The more you pay, the more you bail someone else out. don't you feel better now?

    It's official

I see it as a bad thing. The unions and Obama will own controlling interest of a corporation? What is wrong with that picture? That is like Colonel Sanders guarding the chicken house. How can the bond holders and the stock holders have zero value assets. They loose everything or get pennies for their risk and investment. The union gets the company? The bond holders were the ones that loaded GM money. How can they be out and government still owns part of it? The previous post said Obama was on the news talking as if it is a good thing. How can we give away billions and then allow it to go chapter 11? What a success story. :ack: The one that really gets me is GM. Obama fired the CEO. The guy should have said, "no, I fire you". What could Obama have said? This isnt Russia. The auto companies need to be able to compete with other auto makers. These poor auto companies carry so much bagage with union labor cost and they compete against companies that don't have that liability. The business model doesnt work. The union doesnt care about profits or efficiancy. Perhaps the most troubling in all of this is the public sees this as completely acceptable.
  8. I sent mine to the body shop and they couldnt find any. One was easily fabricated but the other was too far gone and needed replaced. Junk yards will gladly cut them off. On the bottom and the back, ask them to go all the way past the weld seam if that makes sense. They charged me $40.
  9. I'm not sure personally. I know that my e-mail virus scanner at work that sits in the mail server has 4 or 5 virus engines it uses to check each mail message as they arrive. Kaspersky seems to get quite a bit of them. But that is e-mail. Quite different than getting a virus scanner for a desktop. So I plead ignorance. :clapping:
  10. I'm with 88XJSport. I am in northern Indiana and if we see one per month, we are shocked. I don't dare drive mine in the winter. I saw this one in a previous post that was found in original condition that looked like an easy restore. I would have bought it and restored it if I had the chance. I have a red one of the same year. A white one to go with it would have been great. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15208
  11. Well, I am an IT guy. I would always recommend running an anti virus program. My preference has been Trend Micro. Symantec works good too but doesnt seem to catch half the stuff Trend does. Make sure it scans in realtime and also set it up to batch scan the whole system regularly. Also, run your windows update religiously. I can't overstate that. As a safe backup plan, when you order a computer, always make sure it comes with restore CD's. Not the "partition" that Dell tries to sell you on but actual CD's that HP sends out (although I think some Dells sell them as an extra charge). Then if it screws up, slap the cd in and rebuild the computer. Once you get infected with a trojan, you can never be 100% sure you got it all. I got hit with a virus at work on Tuesday and I run Trend and Symantec on different parts of my network. Neither one caught it and it wasnt that they were bad products. The virus version was that new. Both had it by morning. I was pretty alarmed. I was watching my event logs and this thing was trying to log into the network. Oh the horror. :ack: By the way, I think Sir Sam is full of it with his recomendation. I tried that one and it got stuck in the cd drive. I don't think he knows what he is talking about.
  12. Yes colorado red was the name. At least it was for the 1987 model year. Click on my link next to my signature. It was a good color for an MJ. That and white Chiefs were always my favorite.
  13. I had mine painted by a body shop. They left the engine and the bay alone but everything else except the hood was removed and painted individually. It made the paint job look more factory because the seams between the metal parts were not coated in paint. It allows more complete coverage too. They painted the insides of the doors, door seams, behind those fender flares, etc. Imagine how much better coverage you could get on the bottom of the doors if you removed them. The bed had to be removed for reasons already mentioned and if I recall, the bed holds part of the gas tank up so I would suggest letting the tank run near empty (although those large 3 quart gas tanks they installed in MJ's can't be too heavy completely full :brows: ) Oh and keep it colorado red.
  14. Beautiful. :clapping: I like red too.
  15. That is beautiful. Very clean. Please keep it stock and don't make me beg. :(
  16. Look at the bigger picture. Take an extra 1/2 hour to do the work (you know since it was muddy, tough to get to and so on). Then at least you (or your company) is getting compensated for the ahole attack. Better yet, don't take an extra half hour but SAY you did. :clapping: Oh, one more thing. don't forget to check the flux capacitor while you have it opened up. They don't tolerate the mud.
  17. I seem to be having trouble finding a pair of bucket seats to replace my bench. I was curious if anyone has successfully installed bucket seats from other vehicles without too much fabrication? I am ok with messing with the Comanche seat brackets but I really don't want to drill holes in the floor. I am considering purchasing a couple of Cherokee buckets and then pay to have them reupholstered. However, I don't think my wife ( ) would approve of that expense. Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to reupholster 2 bucket seats?
  18. I guess it does sort of resemble an Envoy and all the SUVs are starting to look like that. I hoped Jeep would ignore it. My first thought was it looked like a larger version of the Patriot. I am not a fan of that. I have an older Chevy Tahoe and I don't think it is nearly as offensive as the new style Tahoes. The air lift and the 3 off road systems tell me that Jeep hasnt forgot what Jeep is all about. I wish them luck with this. I really don't want Jeep to fail. Too bad they got rid of the diesel.
  19. Ouch, you make my head hurt. Yes, that is exactly what I am talking about.
  20. I don't get it. Why would anyone want that? I think I would rather have the Cherokee before the mods. There are still quite few real Comanches out there that with a little effort would look better than that. Plus it would be the real deal.
  21. I always thought the bench was too soft, even when new. Plus I don't like the idea of no headrest. A rear end collision would put my head through the rear window or snap my neck.
  22. I removed the interior panels on my '87 comanche. On the driver side pillar, next to the interior light connector, there was another wire coiled up from the factory. Does anyone know what that wire was intended for and where the other end is at?
  23. Excellent interior. Very clean. I will keep an eye out for for grey seats. Your neat and tidy interior makes me sick. The only reason my truck is clean is because I don't drive it and I removed the seat and ripped the carpet out.
  24. Our wonderful government has decided that Chrysler has been "hollowed out" by it's previous owner and can no longer stand on it's own. So now they are relying on Fiat to keep it afloat? I am 46 years old and remember very well when Fiat had a greater presence in the US than they do today. I can think of no worse designed and built cars than Fiats. The spider had visual appeal but the build quality and design quality were toward the bottom of the heap. I had a friend that had two of them. A 124 and then a spider. He was always stranded. One time he was driving through a housing addition and his wheel fell off (and I don't mean the lug nuts came off). I remember reading an article a few years back about inexpensive collectible sports cars from the '70's & '80s. Datsun 240z/280z, Triumph Tr6, Spitfire. There were several. In the article, their short list of bad choices were "Any Fiat". I am very discouraged with where Jeep seems to be headed. My feeling is if the Fiat deal falls through and Chrysler is liquadated, perhaps another company will pick up the Jeep brand. They have been bought and sold many times throughout their history and I believe the Jeep brand has the most appeal of any Chrysler product (although I am a bit bias). I am almost rooting against the Fiat partnership. I am curious if anyone else has similar opinions of Fiat? FIAT. Eeek. :grrrr:
  25. Once again 88XJSport watches my back.
