  1. Sweeeeeeeet! I can't go, but sweet none the less. :D I probably can't do much of anything until this dang semester is over. :(
  2. Yes. XJ leafs are outboard of the frame rails, while MJ leafs are directly below. But MJs have a wider frame out back so the difference is only a small amount, but more than enough that the leaf bushings would suffer immensly.
  3. I have a massive Borla under my 88. It's nice and quiet when idling, with just a bit of rumble. Nothing obnoxious until I step on the gas. :D I like it. I bought a used dual system for my 90 and am real interested in what it sounds like. Someday I might find out. :(
  4. 95-01 Explorer have disks, but the older ones are just as strong and the drums are still better than your Dana 35 brakes. The key is getting the right gear ratio. Nows the time to consider an upgrade if you have larger tires. 8.8s can be had in 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10. car-part.com can help with your search for an axle. Oh, and it has to come from an Explorer/Mountineer, as any other 8.8 will either have the wrong wheel bolt pattern, be the wrong width, or be of inferior strength. Check these sites for pointers on the 8.8 swap: http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/ford88.html http://xjfanatic.com/ford88.php Oh, and XJ perches are farther apart than MJ perches, not the other way around.
  5. Nope, SUA.
  6. Maybe a bad vacuum leak in the brake booster?
  7. But Ford is a necessary evil. How else would poor shlubs like myself afford stronger high-pinion front axles. :D
  8. I've already got double MJ mains in the 88 and love it, but the 88 is far from stock so this could be a completely different experience on the 90.

    Go Tigers!!

Too bad they're swinging golf clubs now-a-days. :D
  10. I'm looking for a "controlled" ride. Just stiff enough to control wrap, control sway, and give me more load capacity. It's only one more leaf than stock, but I have absolutely no idea what it will be like. :dunno: I've got plenty of leafs lying around now, so I can keep fine-tuning.
  11. I've changed the leaf pack slightly. The one MJ leaf has 2 retention bands on it so I'm swapping it with the Explorer counterpart. So now the pack goes -MJ main -Explorer main without eyes and the ends are now tapered -Explorer -MJ with the retention bands -Explorer overload Photos/measurements coming soon. I'm having a bit of an issue since I decided to go with the Explorer's larger bolt (doesn't fit in the axle's spring perch hole).

    Go Tigers!!

World Series here we come!!! :jump:
  13. My thoughts are that with a tire that tall, you want to be as wide as possible to avoid being tipsy. Wider is better. :D
  14. An SOA lift varies. On any particular truck, going SOA will result in the truck being 5.5-6" higher than it was previously. But if you buy a front lift that advertises a certain height, the back end may not match the front because the rear height is relative and varies depending on the type of leafs used (2wd are about 1" shorter than 4wd) or how worn out or broken the old leafs are. Another variable is how much weight is in the bed. Some guys wheel with nothing but a spare tire, I have a custom rollbar, heavy bumper, and bring a bunch of spare parts/tools/gas/etc.
  15. My guess is that it really isn't a FSM and they decided they don't want to ship it to you and then have to take it back because you're mad at them for being idiots. :teehee:
  16. The bend points down and is closer to the axle. It's to clear the coil spring perch when the axle droops. But I imagine it should work just fine if you need to mount it in a different orientation to clear your custom stuff.
  17. If I understand it correctly, the Waggy axles are a couple inches narrower than the stock MJ axles. My 88 has fullsize ford axle that are much wider than MJ axles.
  18. I'll sell mine... for about eleventy-bajillion dollars. :D
  19. Nope. While I won't stop anyone else from posting a link to an online manual they've uploaded somewhere else, I simply cannot have it added to our site due to the typical copywrite issues that I just don't want to deal with.
  20. The 86 Metric Ton MJ came with the MJ '20. It's a different width than an other '20s and has one piece shafts (obviously with the 5on4.5" pattern)
  21. But the '20 he's looking at won't match his front axle in bolt pattern or width. I too would take an MJ AMC-20 over the Explorer 8.8. It's cooler and bolts in. :D
  22. That size is where the 8.8 gets it's strength. The tubes are friggin' HUGE! :D Plus it'll handle 36" tires no problemo. But the diff itself doesn't hang any lower than the Dana 44. I just went out and measured and got 10.5" from top to bottom of my 8.8 and 44.
  23. Post it up here? As in the whole thing? If it is a FSM, that's huuuuuge!
  24. Throw in an octane booster too. The octane level dies with age.
