  1. pffft. who needs reverse? :D
  2. Go 4.88s and don't look back. :D Also, you may want to buy a junkyard late model Dana 30 and use that for the new gears. Then you can sell off your current axle.
  3. the labor alone could be $300+ The only way to know for sure is to shop around in your area. Generally you can get a better deal if you bring the axle to them sans truck.
  4. all depended on the package, but they were small. 225s were the biggest available and they went all the way down to 195s. You also might want to upgrade some other things while you're at it, like front axle U-joints and that spindly front driveshaft if it's still there.
  5. good luck!
  6. Just now wrapped up the wiring for the compressor's box. So now I have a 40 breaker in the house, 8 guage into the garage, and 4 breaker sin the garage, one each for the compressor, lights, garage door opener, and the one bank of outlets. When it gets warmer I'll add in more outlets, but for right now this is just fine. Now to figure out why the garage door opener doesn't work. I hope it's not fried too. So far that I've found, whatever happened in the wiring took out the old outlet box, an extension cord, the light switch, and the one power strip. :fs1: The compressor had an inline ground fault interrupter, which might have been it's saving grace. :D
  7. I can't really tell by the "after" pics, but are you fully removing the rust from the weld area and chamfering the sides of the new steel?
  8. The football exists so that the system can accumulate more available vacuum pressure that it would otherwise. Without it, some vehicles can have trouble operating the HVAC controls.
  9. No, I never got around to writing up a blog for the old 88 build. I should probably do that. photos are at: http://www.picturetrail.com/petermontie Essentially I added wedges to tilt the coil bucket backwards a few degrees and angled the bumpstop tower outward to better line up with the ford axle
  10. It's a vacuum reserve, not air. the pressure inside is negative. Usually a failure will occur in the vacuum line running to it. Replace that line if it at all looks aged and cracked.
  11. With or without your fat @$$ in it? why does your ZJ weigh in at 2000 lbs over curb weight?
  12. have you cleaned or replaced the fuel injector at all? If the injector isn't spraying right, there'd likely be an increase.
  13. thought about that. waaaaaaay outta my budget. enough of this hijack. :shake: Jeepinsoldier, any updates?
  14. if the guy was running it in his wrangler, does that bellhousing come with it?
  15. I don't remember the last time I heard anyone complain of any coils being too soft. :dunno: Add in a big ZJ sway bar and the proper longer links to those 150# coils and street manners should be just fine.
  16. :rotfl2: and you found this out how?
  17. FINALLY!!! the new conduit is finished and the wire is through it to the garage. tomorrow we fill in the ditch and start the laborious process of wiring in the new fuse box and connecting to power.

    damn cold

Supposed to be above freezing tomorrow!!! Good thing too, cause that excavated dirt is now a frozen pile and I'm ready to bury the new conduit.
  19. what about a dodge power wagon? Not available from the factory as a diesel. Willy Nor does it seat 7. I want a minivan on steroids. :D
  20. I have rusty's 3" 180# coils and love them. admittedly I don't think Rusty was making his own coils way back then. the coating has long since flaked off and they are rusty as all get out, but the coils are perfect for my truck. I have the maximum flex my truck can give. I do have the heavy front bumper which is why I got the 180# variety. yes I have more than 3" of lift. the ford radius arm setup lifts the coil buckets 2" higher than the stock Dana 30.
  21. i sometimes add club.com to the end of comanche. even worse, I'll add @hotmail.com to the end of my own name. never should have used my name as my email addy.
  22. yes it's possible to convert, but it will likely be much more money than finding a 4wd trans and selling off your 2wd AX-15.
  23. huh? it's right back there. pull off the cover and snap some pics. :fs1: :dunno:
  24. I would prefer that everyone simply ask their questions if they can't find them using the search. Whatever it may be. For those who are bothered by any repetitious questions, how about bookmarking previous similar threads and posting links to them?
  25. stick or auto is all up to you. there is a thread in the DIY" forum that explains both.
