  1. Oh well, it was worth a try.
  2. X3. But specifically greasable Spicer u-joints, like the 5-153X. http://www.actionmachineinc.com/5-153xu-joint.aspx
  3. Measure it. No other shell will fit an MJ perfectly except an MJ specific shell. The MJ roof height and cab angle is like nothing else. The closest fit is from a 1994 and below S10, but IMO it looks like crap because of the above reason(s).
  4. Give them a call and ask for Jason. He's an MJ guy and always knows what they currently have in stock.
  5. Used to have FWD Saab 96s back in the 60s. They had 841cc two-stroke three-cylinder engines and put out 38HP in stock trim. They had triple carbs, and they freakin' screamed. There was virtually no rev limit until it blew up, and they would wind out to such a high RPM that you couldn't hear it anymore. They were a blast to ice-race on a frozen lake course using studded snow tires on the front.
  6. Did you check Complete Auto Recyclers in Brownsboro? They usually have several MJs there. http://completeautorecyclers.com/
  7. Hell of an improvement. That thing looks strong.
  8.
  9. He did it the very hard way. He was in originally for five years, made E5, got out because his dad passed away and he had to take care of business for his family. Then re-enlisted three years later as an E4, and worked up to the top. He has a total of 19 years active duty. So he's been in the old and new Navy. He much prefers the old Nav, as I did, but was able to adapt. Good luck on your 3rd class test shipmate. Hope you make it, even though you're a snipe. :D Seriously, even with the new Navy, with the economy and job situation as it is now, it's not a bad option to hang in there.
  10. Just got back from Naval Air Station Pensacola FL. My brother-in-law recently received word of promotion to an E9 IT (Information Systems Technician) Master Chief, the top enlisted rating and one of 21 in the USN. Needless to say it got pretty drunk out last night at the Chief's Club. I still feel like crap............
  11. Well, obviously jpnjim has moved into his new digs, and is settled in enough to rant about toasters instead of the moving-in nightmares. :D Glad you're all settled in Jim. I have a vintage (1960-ish) Sunbeam 4-slot toaster inherited from my Mom about twenty years ago. Chrome plated deco sides and weighs about 15 pounds. It still toasts everything perfectly, and the slots are wide enough to toast today's hot dog rolls, hamburger rolls, and even bread. It applies the heater coil grid burn marks on both sides, and the inside is perfect. It's priceless...........
  12. Yep, next weekend. But down here the moto courses are oval, flat, and paved with dirt. Gonna go for the closed course endurance record on one tank of gas. :D
  13. Cards down on the table now? Rob, you're way over-thinking this issue IMO. We're talking about a Renault tractor diesel engine here, not an Audi A8 4.2-litre V8 TDI or similar. I think the coolant type used is one of the most minor issues with this engine. Interesting topic though........
  14. Thanks dakal. UPDATE: My MJ is jealous, been ignoring her for quite awhile sorting out stuff on the bike. Weather's been nice and have been busy tuning the engine exhaust and carb settings and road testing. The larger 604cc displacement Rotax thumper engine plus the approx. 150 lb. weight shaving during the conversion made a huge difference in the performance of this thing. I've maxed out the jetting in the original Bing carb and upgraded the CDI ignition box, and will probably have to invest in a larger 40mm Dellorto carb to realize the full potential of the engine. But it freaking flies now and still has decent street manners so I may leave her as is for awhile. Had her up to 110 today (probably more, speedo was pegged) and it was still nowhere near peaked out. Smooth, no vibes whatsoever, and was still pulling at 8K. I chickened out at that point. Gonna have to learn how to do wheelies now. Happy how this thing turned out, beyond my original speculations performance-wise. Still have quite a bit of cosmetics to do; build a polished alloy wiring/ignition coil enclosure behind the carb under the seat for the HV stuff, more exhaust work, but it's nearly done. Gotta get this thing dynoed to establish a baseline too. Fun project....... Anybody else working on bike projects? Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found
  15. 3", 3.5", 4.1", 4.6" were offered.
  16. Oh crap. I'm real sorry to ruin your day Paradise. It will never happen again.
  17. Yes, those are longer than the XJ bump stops, but 4" is the average for length for the MJ. So they are good stock replacements. 4.6" was the longest you could get from the factory.
  18. :agree: Although I will add: I don't buy the pre-diluted mix (no matter what brand). I used to until a friend at the store asked me "Why are you buying water...?" Nor do I. Should have worded it better, like:
  19. Rob, any of today's major reputable brands (I use undiluted Autozone w. distilled H2O in all my junk) is fine. All modern engine coolant systems have some aluminum components in the system, some are entirely alloy, unlike yesteryear. So no worries.
  20. Zackerly. Have to say though, the Israelis made the best of what they received, even improved some things.
  21. No factory purge solenoid on the 91-92 MJs, unless it was a Cali dealer installed thing. Those started from the factory on the 93 ZJ 4.0L.
  22. Ya I figured you must have been up close and personal with some Israeli troops to make a comment like that Jim. But just think where they would be it were not for our weapons, ships, tanks, aircraft, $$, and, most importantly, training?
  23. Man, if that isn't a sheite-eating grin, I don't know what is. Great pic. Good looking 91 too.
  24. That's a rare color for an MJ. If it were mine, it would be a no brainer. I'd use it, not only because it looks great, it's original, and the innards will match. A fresh Grenadine red metallic will look super minus the fading common to all our MJs.
  25. :agree: And to add to that, the F-18 crew members were USN trained. The best of the best. Definitely don't agree with that.
