Here's a plug from my '92 XJ 4.0 with about 1k miles on it. Does it look like it's burning clean to you?

The worlds Fastest Comanche
IDXJ replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
What about a Toyota 2wd rear axle. I believe it's the 8" same as the 4wd model and has drop out 3rd member like the Ford 9". Also has the 5x4.5 wheel bolt pattern. Those axles have stood up to many a huge tire.... -
Bleeding your closed cooling system
IDXJ replied to BLHTAZ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Very good info. It can be an absolutely royal pain to get one bled. What I did was drill a 1/16 hole in my thermostat and instal the stat with the hole at the 12 oclock position. It allows the air to pass to the radiator and vent. Doesn't seem to affect the warmup or running temp either. -
Just sand the panels and paint them any color you want!

what do i do about this? (photo attached)
IDXJ replied to Darren's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you work GENTLY you can get it out with a hacksaw blade. I do this a lot with brass sprinklers in Alum. pipe. Take just the blade from a hacksaw and make a cut in one spot the length of the fitting. Cut it as far as the threads. Do the same thing about 15 degrees away same as the first cut. Then use a small chisel and hammer to knock that small section out of the threads. That will allow you to unscrew the rest of the broken fitting without messing up the threads. Good luck. -
Help Replacing clutch master cyl.
IDXJ replied to Redramman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just clamp it on. No sealer. I just use DOT 3 brake fluid. Works fine. -
WOW! That's an awesome story. Reminds me of the Johnny Cash song, Ira Hayes

Quick glance at that 1st pic, I thought it was some kind of RAT FINK tow truck.....

If you want a warn winch at the best price, look into the Tabor brand. It is made by warn. I am running the Tabor 9K on my XJ and it has been a great winch for the price.

Thanks guys. I did find that same info in my manual too.

A good swap for the early models with the anemic 2.8 is the 3.4 from a Camaro. I hear it is a bolt in swap and the 3.4 supposedly is far superior to the 2.8. Nice looking start you have there. Good luck.

My EMISS MAINT indicator light just came on in my 88 MJ. Any hazard a guess where to begin checking for issues? Thanks

how to remove np231 shift knob
IDXJ replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can remove the whole arm by pulling one hitch pin inside the cup. The handle is bonded to the shifter arm. :brows: -
Head liner removal Need Help.
IDXJ replied to Redramman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 88 MJ had velcro holding it in the front in 2 places and in the center above the rear window. When I pulled mine for a sagging headliner, I took the cloth off, used scotchbrite to remove all the foam that was sticking to it and then I painted it to match my interior. Looks fine and I don't have to worry about it sagging anymore. -
I guess this is what happens when you remove the factory t/c brace and wheel it. It never had the brace as long as we have had it so, I'll just blame the P.O.

My son's K20. He was pulling out of the driveway and BOOM!!! Looks like one of the planetaries grenaded possibly. At least he wasn't rolling down the highway.

Image Not Found Maybe we'll just do the 205 swap now....

Spring over will get you about 5" lift correct? When I did my lift and axle swap on my XJ, I used u-bolt eliminators. They come in different heights and different axle tube diameters. I used the ones with 1.5" lift. That would get you to 6.5"'s of lift. Good luck

Only if you figure out the difference between "advise" and "advice" you dumb noob  According to Eagle's psychological study post, which I think is generally correct, Sir Sam thinks of himself as competent. 8) I think he's very competent, especially with chickens. And no IDXJ, you should not get bashed here if you're genuinely trying to help. Ya but only when he offers "advice" and not "advise" :chillin: You guys have scarred me for life already

My new BFF!!!

But the Ford rims make the ride!!! NOT!!

So does this mean I won't get bashed for giving advise here? I rarely give it on Naxja and I won't give it on Pirate cause I'm just waiting for the lynch mob to show up at my door......

Here's a few more pics of it. The clear coat is a mess but the body is nearly flawless. The interior is in good shape. Couple of cracks in the seat side only. I'd like to get it painted sometime soon. Probably factory colors. It also came with this nice fiberglas topper that's on a spare bed I have. I'm thinking of making a matching trailer out of the spare bed. Image Not Found
