Does your '96 front axle use the unit bearing/stub shaft or the spindle? That in its self determines what wheels you can use as the spindle style hub requires a wheel and center cap that will accept the protruding hub and dust cover. Some OEM wheel styles are indeed hub centric while others are lug centric. The larger hub center of the unit bearing will limit some wheel choices so just being 5 on 4.5 lug pattern isn't always a safe bet. With that said, Dodge Charger/Challenger/Magnum/300wheels have all been shown on an XJ/MJ before, but not with the spindle style 2wd front hub. Ford uses this lug pattern very commonly across their models - the Ranger/Bronco wheels used pretty frequently. The earlier WK2's had quite a few recalls and TSB isues, the vast majority are nuisance really, just a minor few safety related. I'd buy your used one from a Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler dealer, get with a trustworthy tech/service writer who will print out all the recals nd TSB's, bring those to the negotiation and as a condition of the sale, insist that ALL get addressed before delivery. Our '12 SRT8 has been in the shop more than any of our new vehicles prior. Some were SRT8 specific (rear magnetic shock defective, front LED shorting out/flickering, roof rack delete strip breaking at mounting screws) but here's a list of the recall/TSB stuff we've had addressed: Recall- sun visor vanity mirror wire short/fire hazard Recall- fuel pump wiring harness short/fire hazard Recall- Brake master cylinder push rod corrosion issue TSB's: -squeaking sun roof track/assembly (replaced entire assembly) -front bumper fascia coming un-snapped around headlights/fenders (lengthy procedure to improve snap tabs) -water leak around rear wiper assembly (replaced rubber seal) -loose splash pans and skid plates (tightened fasteners) Warranty: -carbon fiber/wood dash trim coming loose and warping (replaced 2 sections of carbon fiber dash trim) -horn hard to press/honk at steering wheel (replaced airbag assembly -better but not by much) -batteries in tire pressure monitors low volt. (All replaced) I think that's all of it..... Wife hit a dog with it so the front bumper cover and lower grill trim had to be replaced....I had to print out the bumper/fascia TSB to give to the dealer body shop. Mechanically, it's been the most reliable vehicle we've owned (knock on wood....lol) it's never been towed.

Man, there's a TON of fab work in the bed. Look at the fender wells...... MJ bed sides and wells, grafted to the XJ wells and floor. NUTS. I'd hate to flex that on a trail...... I foresee lots of cracked filler and wavy rear body panels where the bed meets the cab. I do like the levity........ "Super-Short". :thumbsup:

If those yard's websites are like ours, the model names disappear when that model isn't among the current inventory. Comanche only shows when they have one or more in the yard.

Cheap fun: P71 Crown Vic Interceptor. $2K buys a good condition driver. Great road course car. Fantastic highway car, powerful for passing, good ride. Mine: Prettiest: 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible. Money no object daily driver: 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat/Trackhawk. I'd just have to trade in our 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 first...........

Haven't had it on a track, so I don't have any real tested ride/cornering input as far as performance goes. Street driving it and having done a quick figure-8 throw down in a closed parking lot around light pole bases has me grinning. The cut stock 4x4 coils are very notably stiffer but not bone-jarring. With the factory swaybar - larger than the ones found under the XJ's - it has reasonable body roll. At this point, I have no plans to change the suspension set up until I get some track time. I'm guessing the rear leaf packs (still stock minus the overload leaf) might still be too stiff. And I'm pretty certain it'll need an anti-wrap bar fabbed up to keep the pinion controlled as I plan on keeping it a 5-speed..... especially if I remove a leaf from each pack to soften it up. Still planning on going with a simple straight tube and heim joint steering set up.

All these years I've stomped around in the yards........ never thought of using a back pack...... :doh: I've been using a soft sided Craftsman tool bag with shoulder strap. Better than the hard tool boxes. I do believe I'll be keeping an eye out for a similar back pack. I dig it!

Agreed. Those are hideous. Looks like an electric hot dog grill. Hit the trails in a wooded area and you're gonna bring home a ton of debris falling behind that grillwork, or go muddin' and it's gonna fill up with dirt & goo. Then you gotta take apart the assembly to clean it out. Nope. Won't be a buyer. Couldn't if I wanted to..... I don't do Facebook. I'm hoping someone will make them like the JCR boxes for XJ's........ Recessed. No rubber gaskets around the lights. Classy and smart. But even something like this would be awesome. Cheaper too.

Hate the front bumper. Otherwise, not to shabby.

If I had to drive a mini-van........... that'd be a contender. The only thing better would be one of those Astro van 4x4 conversions..... those were available with a V8.

What he said. I've seen another restored one in black and they just had the lower section painted solid silver to match, no fade. I thought it looked better that way personally.
