  1. The bolts came out easily. Some a little too easily. I had a can of red high temp paint on the shelf so I just went with it. It turned out pretty well.
  2. Cut fenders or stock? Backspacing of wheels? Probably at least 5 inches.
  3. I really didn't really expect replacing the valve cover gasket on my '88 to be an all day job... What a pain. The Felpro Perma Dry Plus gasket fell right into place. But I had to remove the top radiator hose from the thermostat housing to get the cover to line up. Then it took me over a hour to get the rear bolt started. To top it all off the CCV hose fell apart when I removed it from the valve cover so now I have to wait for a replacement before I can even test it out. I did find out that a mini shop vac works great for removing sludge from the rocker area.
  4. Check out post #390 http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f53/picture-thread-136280/index26.html
  5. Looks great. What size rims are those?
  6. Did your lift kit not come with extended swaybar links?
  7. Mine is a column shift and i'd have to modify the tach for the shift indicator. Just doesn't seem worth it to me. Don't really need a tach on an automatic.
  8. I'm looking for a 3/4 cluster that will work with a Renix 4.0L MJ. It's the one with the big gas gauge, without the Tach, but with the oil, water, and battery guages.
  9. Hey that's my old CJ!! Do you know who owns it now? It is actually a Land Rover color called Belize Green.
  10. Don't be afraid to give it a little more gas when starting on a hill. Once you get used to where your clutch pedal begins to catch it will become second nature. Just find a hill on rarely used dirt road and practice till you have it down.
  11. There a '95 XJ at my local PullaPart maybe i'll have time to go by there this weekend. Hopefully the master and booster are still on it. There are 2 '97s and a '98 at the yard are those boosters different?
  12. Look into the Zone lift. People who have it seem to really like it. The Rusty's stuff is hit or miss.
  13. So could you swap a 91-92 pedal assembly and switch into a 86-90 and do away with the early switch assembly? Seems like that might be easier than drilling out and grinding flat the newer master cylinder assembly's rod.
  14. Got it finished up and took it for a test drive today. I'm pretty happy with the results. It rides great. Much better than the worn out stock suspension. It feels more like a Jeep now that it sits up higher. Still need to adjust the e-brake, do Hornbrod's adjustable linkage for the valve, and I may need to bleed the brakes one more time. Starting height from ground to bottom of fender flare. 29 front 32.5 rear. After height. 34.25 front 35.5 rear.
  15. Still need to adjust the tracbar and bleed the brakes. Plus double check and make sure I didn't forget anything. Also I did manage to drop my 14mm impact socket inside the unibody frame rail. Which happens to be a very common size on the MJ and was sorely missed afterwards. Hopefully I can get it back out some day.
  16. I've been working on MJs all day. I feel like i've had my @$$ kicked. But i'm pretty happy with the results so far. Specs so far Rear: Long add a leaf from XJ Extended shackle about 1.5 inches longer than stock Rough Country extended brake lines E-brake cables from the cheap 5.5 lift thread Used Rancho 5000s from parts MJ Front: 4 inch lift springs used from parts MJ Teraflex adjustable control arms used Teraflex adjustable trac bar Rancho 5000s used from parts MJ ZJ V8 sway bar Rough Country sway bar disconnects Rough Country brake lines 31 inch Maxxis Mudders Black rock crawler style steel wheels Pics
  17. Lift time! Started tearing into the rear last night.
  18. Why so cheap if it's got a rebuilt motor? What all is wrong with it? I live near Raleigh, NC so the ATL is a far drive from here but $500 for something that is in decent shape (assuming it is) might have my attention. It's this one http://comancheclub.com/topic/37403-86-comanche-new-project/?hl=zackcj7 . But i'm returning it to stock. It'll have the stock suspension and 30 and 35 with 3.55 gears. Stock wheels, no winch. It has some of the usual MJ problems. Rust hole in driver's floorboard, some wiring issues, interior needs attention, a couple small dents and dings, etc.. But it starts up and runs smooth.
  19. I'll have a whole 2.5l '86 MJ 4x4 for sale soon with a rebuilt motor for about $500.
  20. I built a Samurai several years ago. It was a pretty fun little 4x4. I did a spring over lift on it with 31s, transfer case reduction gearset, winch-bumper, and roll cage. The coolest thing about them is the transfer case. It reduces even in 2 hi. So you can buy a lower gearset for the transfer case and leave the axle ring and pinions stock. The little 4 cylinder is really gutless though. It makes a Jeep 2.5l feel like a hot rod.
  21. I just bought a new pressure bottle last week from partsgeek.com for $22.
  22. "Nice glasses and mustache :rotf: " Yeah, I think that is the PO in the background. Didn't want to blow his cover
