What does it do when it won't go into gear? Will it go into gear if you turn the engine off? Could just be a seized pilot bearing.

Project "Eliminator"
zackcj7 replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
So you guys rented U-Haul trucks and trailers to tow your rigs? How did that work out? -
Could you elaborate on what you mean by this? "Also there is enough verticle play in the rear tires that its making noises when I drive over small objects."

Meant to put a K after that...

'77 258 4.2 I-6 Into My '86 Mj...help!!!
zackcj7 replied to US-86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just buy a Dana 300 flip kit and make it a drivers side drop. -
It's from a Wrangler. I know the tail housing has the transfercase clocked 10 degrees further up. But from what i've read that's the only difference.

I'm going to look at an AX5 and 231 out of an '01 model to replace the AX4 and 207 in my '86. From what i've read the swap from an AX4 to AX5 is pretty strait forward. But the difference in years has me a little worried. The AX5 will come with the bellhousing and flywheel and has the newer style external slave. Do I have anything to worry about? Should I use my existing bellhousing or switch to the '01? What about the flywheel? Is there any reason to swap the '86 flywheel for the '01?

Heads up for you Georgia guys. There is a black Eliminator 4x4 at the North Atlanta Pull A Part. Drivetrain is still 100% intact as of today. Bed is okay, dented behind rear wheels on both sides where they set it on jacks. Hit on drivers side front fender. Interior is mostly gone. It only had about 107k miles if I looked at it right.

Death Wobble! Got Me Stumped
zackcj7 replied to 88elimnator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A little bit of play in the track bar will cause death wobble. Go ahead and replace the bushing. -
I've always wanted to visit Colorado :) ...PM on the way.

I need the rear power steering pump bracket for a '86(other years may be the same) with a 2.5l . The bracket is kind of crescent moon shaped and bolts to the intake manifold with two bolts and looks like it bolts to the exhaust manifold on the bottom and ties into the adjuster bolt on the front power steering pump bracket. There are some good pics of it in this thread. http://comancheclub.com/topic/37910-86-25-power-steering-add/

Thanks man. Looks like i'm missing the rear bracket.
-
I think I have all my parts together to add power steering to my MJ that came without it. I'm trying to figure out how the pump and bracket mounts. I see that two of the bolt holes line up to two bolt holes on the water pump. Is that all that holds it? Am I missing something? Could anyone with an '86 2.5 snap some pics of the how it's mounted?

Got a chance to work on mine yesterday. Turn signal and ignition switch were good. Turns out i'm not getting voltage from the fuse to the flasher. I'm guessing the connection between the two behind the fuse box is bad. Or could be the fuse holder itself. I put in a temporary bypass for now using an inline fuse and the flashers are working again. I plan to do a dash swap sometime this spring/summer and will dissect the fuse box then.
-
Does your heater blower and radio still work? If no it's probably the ignition switch. If yes and you've already changed the turn signal switch, first turn the key to on/run and switch the blinker on. Check for voltage at fuse and at flasher on the fuse box side. You may have a bad connection somewhere causing an open condition, meaning the voltage is not passing through. I'm having the same issue but haven't had a chance to look into it yet. I have a feeling mine is caused by corrosion at the fuse box, but I haven't had a chance to verify. If you figure it out please post up what you found.

Man, i wish I would have known that sooner. I just pulled one from the junkyard last weekend. So the 4.0 and the 2.5 MJs have different swaybars?

Could you post up some pics of the JK seat and mounts? That sounds like a cool mod. -
88 Eliminator Electrical Problems

Sounds like your headlight switch needs attention next. -

Man, that sure makes it easier. That slave cylinder is right above the cat converter and a pain to get to.
-
If it's the one with a Tach for an '86 and 86MJV6 doesn't want it, I do.
-
So I unbolt the slave from the bellhousing, fix the piston so it stays compressed, and bleed as normal. Pump and hold bleed or gravity? Or I can borrow a vacuum bleeder if that would be better.
-
I have a AX4 with external slave on my MJ. It's the older style slave on the passenger side. Sometimes when I push in the clutch the shifter will not go in any gear. If I cut the motor it goes into gear fine. I'd like to bleed the clutch and see if that helps. I can't find the bleeder valve on the slave so I assume it's on the top. Will I have to pull the master and slave and bench bleed or is there a way to bleed these on the vehicle? If this isn't the problem my next guess would be a seized pilot bearing. Do the AX4s use a pilot bearing or a bushing?

Like the bar. Did you bend the tube yourself? Who makes the bumper.
