  1. Hmm, I wonder if the top of the tank has a flat enough spot to mount a universal sender like this? There are different ohm ratings, not sure what the MJ uses? Holley sells a Lidar one, but it says that it doesn't work with OE style gauges. https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=346/category_id=184/mode=prod/prd346.htm
  2. The Baddadfab Facebook page is not very inspiring. I had been considering ordering, but his last post was in 2024 and the comments seem to indicate that people are not getting their products or even an answer. The Boostwerks one was my other favorite option. 😕
  3. On one of the XJ forums, a few people had their Mishimoto radiators plug up and thought that a coolant filter was necessary due to small tubes. It sounds unlikely that you've driven it enough for that to be the issue. It seems like I've heard of more issues with the triple e fan setup than not.
  4. We made it home, 2587 miles in 10 days. The only issue was my home made angle iron shock mount. I'll have to beef that up. It bolts to what was the sway bar mounts when the 8.8" was in the Explorer. There is also way too much heat coming from the transmission tunnel. I have already: painted with ceramic paint, followed by a layer of sound deadening with foil on it, a layer of adhesive foam insulation over that, with a DEI insulated trans tunnel heat shield over it all. Not sure what else to do except inspect all of the boots and maybe try some heat shield on the bottom of the tunnel? Trans is a new Ax-15, but we had the same issue with the old trans, so I don't think that is the issue. Trans fluid is Redline synthetic and T/case is +4 synthetic.
  5. I think that we're at about 2300 miles as of now. Hopefully, we will be home about noon tomorrow. We went on an off road ghost town expedition from Fallon NV today. The Bill Stroppe edition Bronco it front of us was pretty sweet... For a Ford.
  6. We've covered about 1,900 miles at this point and have about 500 to go. The only issue was a broken shock mount on the Ford 8.8. we just yanked off the shock and kept going. I thought about having it welded, but it has been a non issue so I'll worry about it when we get home. We actually met a few different people that recognized us from YouTube videos on this trip. That was weird. 😂 we've been covering some ground and seeing lots of cool places! The isolated town of Jarbidge was a neat stop and of course we took the back road in. It ended up being very rutted and washed out for many many miles. Gaia GPS sent us on a dead end road, thankfully we were able to reroute using our paper map, but it cost us a few hours. The Basque sheep herders that live inside canvas tents in remote areas and work with their dogs were a pleasant surprise.
  7. In my experience, 3" or more lift on short arms rides terrible. The control arms get low in their arc and must actually move ahead to go upward which creates a harsh ride. Long arms or drop brackets are the only cure. Our truck was built before all of the fancy long arm stuff came out and has drop brackets. It works so well that I have no reason to change it. The ride difference before and after the drop brackets was incredible.
  8. Metropolis ghost town.
  9. The first day was 11 hours of driving. 80 MPH cruise on NV HWY 50, the Lincoln HWY
  10. I finally saw one on a trip, about 700 miles in. Eureka NV. I'm not so sure that it's moved in a while.
  11. 1000 miles down so far and we've got a week to go! Besides being a bit of a slug, the Comanche hasn't missed a beat! I could definitely feel the 10,000 ft elevation at Great Basin National Park! The ghost town hunting and adventures continue. YouTube videos to come. That river is a hot spring and the MJ could be a speed bump for what is apparently the smallest giant dump truck. 😁 Here's a rough map, not including the off shoots, it wouldn't let me add anymore locations.
  12. Usually none. I've driven on trips for thousands of miles without seeing another. There is one an employee at the local O'Reilly who drives one everyday and I know of a few others in town that I rarely see. We travel a lot and it's funny how many XJ's we will see in certain areas and how few we will see in others. We're getting ready to hit the road in the MJ again, we will see if we run into any this time.
  13. This is the one that I used for my windows. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01H97ETP8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I think an adjustable would be ideal. You could dial in just enough to work well. I ordered one in eBay, but it did not work at all. Here's how it worked for the windows. Even after I removed and left bed the regulators and replaced the window runs, they barely worked. I think that 15-16v would be ideal. https://youtu.be/XyqQDWkeAi8
  14. I've been thinking about trying that in the XJ locks. I added one to the power windows a few years ago with excellent results. I've never got around to trying to hunt down the power supply for the locks.
  15. Thanks, I actually installed the AC heater box, control panel and wiring a few years ago when I had the dash out to repair windshield frame rust. I just have to figure out the dealer harness part... And add everything else under the hood.
  16. I need to try to get this figured out. My wife has been incredibly patient, especially for someone who hates the heat, but she kept saying how nice it was to have AC on our recent trip in the Ram. Planning desert trips 6 months in advance when you have a black truck with no AC has been problematic. I installed an AC heater control and evaporator box already, but now it's time to finish the job. Any updates on the underhood wiring progress would be appreciated.
  17. Yes, the crankshaft has a spot for a smaller pilot bearing in the inner smaller hole or the larger OD one that fits into the outer hole. You need the larger one. I think that I just used a 97 one. Some people have reported a 74 or so Jeep 304 bushing fits too, but I can not verify. If you buy a later model one, you need to get one with the spacer, (see pic).

    Fly bys?

We were on a ridge in Death Valley in the MJ and had a couple fighters fly right over us. I started going for my phone when I heard them and wasn't nearly quick enough to capture them. It was cool though!
  19. I am and have been running a stock replacement 1988 clutch for 25 years without issues with the AX15. No problems with the internal slave AX15 or the external conversion for me. Flywheel is the factory Renix with the updated pilot bearing.
  20. I've got a Rough Country on the XJ, it seems heavy duty and is fine. The MJ has a Fox. It seems to work just the same at 3x the price.
  21. I'm running a new Durango type box from Vital All terrain after 3 A1 Cardone remans. So far so good. I've heard that Blue Top are also good, better than Red Head who has slipped in quality.
  22. In my experience Auto Zone is always the worst, part quality and employee quality. NAPA used to be the best, but now seems to offer the same inferior parts as everyone else, but at a higher cost. Our local store can't find good employees because they pay less than fast food. Most of the chains can be hit or miss. I'm lucky that I deal with the commercial sales people at work, they are usually higher paid and more experienced that the part time newbies that many times are at the front counter. If I have to buy a part over the retail counter, I figure out what I need before I go.
  23. Ok, I finally installed the new pipe. It has a lot more driveshaft clearance than I had before, but is a bit closer to the oil pan. I glued some FelPro exhaust gasket material to the pan as an insulator. I did have to modify my home made transmission to exhaust mount to better center the pipe to avoid contact with the crossmember. Mounting it to the trans hopefully let's them move together to avoid stressing the pipe, (old one was mounted to the body and eventually cracked). It also included FWD type spring bolts, so that should let the pipe move a bit as well. The rest of my exhaust is 2-1/2 with a dump before the rear axle, so it should be pretty free flowing. No leaks on initial startup.
  24. Don't freak out if you watch our YouTube videos for MJ content and see our Ram! We did throw the tent on the Dodge for our last ghost town hunting trip. It was 1300 miles over a long weekend with highs in the mid 90's, so we took the easy way out with the white truck with A/C. 😁 We bought the Dodge new in 2005, so it's not new to the fleet, either. This does bring up a problem that I will probably need help with, though. Heather commented over and over how nice it was to have AC. I need to finish the AC conversion on the MJ. I put in an AC heater box, control panel and new evaporator, but as far as I got. Questions to come in the proper forum when I get to the electrical part. 😬
