  1. I'd like to know too, I would like to have a nice fitting shell on my MJ eventually.
  2. Going fast is not particularly interesting, and usually is just a ticket to ticketsville. However accelerating quickly is quite fun....... BOOOOOOOOOOST!
  3. I didn't have any trouble with that.....maybe try seating them differently?
  4. yup......they were selling off stuff on craigslist forever.
  5. I doubt MJs ever came with those.....but if I remember right they were a 2" speaker.
  6. Sir Sam

    new jeep...

if you look around you will always find deals....I got this 2000 XJ for $775, needed front pads and rotors to be driveable but that was it.
  7. I forget what the limco product sheet specifies, most people end up custom mixing their own for what works best for them and their equipment. generally I think I mix about a 4:4:1 or a 5:4:1. Alot of that depends on the temperature, viscousity of the paint.....etc etc Spraying high fill primer is very different than spraying single stage non metallic paint. Likewise there are some low VOC paints out there that still spray very nicely......but are just different, and take some getting used to. I mostly work with the limco single stage acrylic enamel, since I have just about used up all my hardener for that the next time I get paint I will get go with the urethane, it is supposed to smell much better and not be nearly as sticky(shoes etc sticking to the ground in the garage when you spray) To be fair this is what the hood looked like before buffing(no wetsand on this one, just buff)
  8. Single stage LIMCO with a gallon of paint, gallon of reducer, and a quart of hardener will run about $150. I was able to fully repaint 4 cherokees with 1 gallon of LIMCO black. This was a hood repainted with LIMCO single stage paint. The pint of paint cost $15 and was enough to spray the hood twice(damm kids egged it after 6 days!)
  9. How about a used digital rebel? Got over 20000 images on mine and still climbing. Nothing beats a digital SLR!
  10. Or peyote in the grand canyon. 8)
  11. thats a good deal, but idk about the SYE. that just means you need to buy a rear shaft. i'm not aware of anyone having real problems with d/shafts until like 8+ inches in manches it's a GREAT deal. the SYE will be a good thing...even though you will have to have a rear shaft built for it (less than $200 if you go expensive with a double cardan and slip shaft). think about it this way...if you break your rear shaft or bust a rear pinion or something on your rear end, you can still drive home in front wheel drive and not leak out all the fluids. if you ask me, that's plenty reason. are you lifting this truck? if stock, still buy the parts and I will trade you a stock np231 with matching spline count PLUS some cash for your 231 with SYE The 1995+ NP242 or 231 has a different seal setup such that fluid will not leak out the transfer case in the even you remove the DS, so that alone is not reason enough.
  12. I had a rodeo too......liked the way the glass and tailgate worked, what pissed me off is that my rodeo had a swing away tire carrier, have to swing it out of the way, then fold the tailgate down. Though the tailgate was nice for sitting on, cooking when camping, etc. My dad has had his CRD for over a year and he still locks the doors when he wants to roll down his window. At least for him he now has a Mercedes and the KJ, so at least both cars have the switches in the center......but its still a bad place for them.
  13. some others someone else did:
  14. Being an XJ guy the tailgate setup just pisses me off, when you open it it swings way out into the way, and makes it annoying when your camping and loading things in and out. Having the spare tire sticking way out he back essentially makes the KJ about a foot longer without any added benefits. My thought was the KJ should have been increased in body length would give the same length for parking, backing up, etc, but give many times more interior room, so much so that you could put the spare inside and still have a net gain of useable storage space. So I photo shopped it: Also, with that stupid spare out of the way the rear could be a fold down tailgate like a truck, with a flip up glass, and the glass could be increase in size meaning greater VISIBILITY and SAFETY. Anyways, thats my rambling thoughts. (oh and before anyone says anything about departure angle please bear in mind this is a relatively quick photoshop to show the general idea, not a production ready photoshop) :D
  15. the NV3550 is the 5 speed manual used starting in 2000 in the XJ and TJ and in 2002 for the KJ. the transmission is the same between the XJ, TJ and Kj, but the bellhousing is different, the 2002 KJ nv3550 has a different bellhousing to mate to the newer moper small block bolt pattern. the TJ has a different bellhousing. the bellhousing can be swapped between the NV3550 and the ax15. in 2005 the KJ got the newer NSG370 tranny which is a mercedes trans, it has an integrated bellhousing, so a NSG370 from a 2005 TJ will not exchange with a 2005 NSG370 from a KJ. my vote is go with a 1997+ 4l and dash/enterior, as well as 97+_ front end.
  16. I'm not too sure. I need a GM 60 degree bellhousing which mates to the AX15. early dakota 4 cylinders have this. I don't want to stray too far from what I know...i can rebuild the ax15 easily, as I've already done several of it's smaller cousins (ax5). it's a good strong tranny and i know enough about it to be comfortable using it. plus, many jeepers with the 4 cylinders (which also have the gm 60 degree bellhousing) do this upgrade I thought the bellhousing you have been using would boltup to the ax15.
  17. Thanks for the link, I needed a manual for my TJ. Now I'm killin' trees with my printer :D Meh, no sense in printing me thinks, easier to search the PDF via keyword, find what you need, and then print off just that section and get it greasy. Course for me, the laptop often finds its way to the garage so I can have the electronic reference by my side anyways.
  18. Nope sorry, never come across any MJ FSMs, most of mine are newer reference material, the old stuff was never published in PDF as PDF didn't exist at the time.
  19. for those in need of FSMs check out: http://colorado4wheel.com/allmanuals/Jeep/
  20. Well, and thats the only problem they have to complain about, I had two cars parked outside(ie not screened from view) for more than 30days. I fixed that now, but it the whole situation still irks me. Plus, I'm hoping to be buying a van soon, so we will see how they like that. Ya, the Z's are fun little toys, I sold the white car there so now I'm down to just 2 Zs and 1 parts Z car. They really don't. All I know is that I sure as hell won't be very friendly or amenable to them in the future. Well and thats the thing, I did have two cars without plates on them, otherwise they looked just fine, not old heaping wrecks of rust. I fixed that now, but the fact that they sent over their hired goon to talk to me(twice now) pisses me off. Lucky for me I don't have a HOA, there are old bylaws, but no HOA in place now.
  21. So ever since I purchased my MJ a couple of months ago its been sitting in my driveway. Now I don't have junk all over, I keep my yard nice, etc. And of course I still have neighbors on my @$$. So early on in the week my nieghbors sent over their hired-goon (son in law) saying "I don't think its fair they should have to look at all these cars" Well I had two cars outside that did not have current plates on them(one of my 300ZX's and the MJ) so I moved the 300zx into my backyard and went and got the plates on the MJ. So today I drove the MJ over the to brewery with the dog, had some free beer, then came home and parked the MJ out on the street in front of my house(which also gives them a nice view of it out their front window). So hey, don't like my truck parked in my driveway, ok fine, I'll get plates on it and park it in the street where you can see it outside all the time. Here is an old pic or reference: (truck had been parked on the right where the green car is, the green car was moved further up, and the car under the cover was hauled off for scrap, my XJ's were parked in the driveway and the street where the black car is, tonight the truck got parked where the rustang is in that picture)
  22. ...which literally swaps out with the mechanical one yup. plug on the 4wd switch sense would be different too, but that would swap out as well. as said before the spline count is the real issue.
  23. 2nd on the above. The only thing electronic on it is the speedo pickup.
  24. uhh, sir sam, not much help there. that's like saying red and maroon is not much different so go with either color. it's personal taste. i am pretty sure i like the ravines just a little bit more, and probably because they are a little less common on MJs as the canyons. but it's one of those things that sometimes it helps to get other opinions to help make a decision. as you can see, yes, i already have canyons. yes, i know they are nearly identical, but still different IMO. i'd probably break even for what i can sell my canyons for, which at the end of the day would probably be the only way i'd do it. "I like my truck red, but maybe I should paint it maroon?" And then the pragmatist in me comes out. It kinda like saying "I have the painted Moabs, but would rather have the machined face moabs" And then the pragmatist in me comes out screaming swinging a battle axe. IMO too much trouble for something you essentially already have.
