  1. Yes it can be. I only run SpyBot and I didn't install any of the resident functions so it doesn't hog up resources. As for HiJackThis and the registry cleaner, they don't use any memory or reources except when you run them. I've yet to see an anti-virus that doesn't turn your PC into a sluggish monster. AVG isn't too bad but it does make a noticable difference.
  2. The video covers most solutions available to remove spyware, malware, and some viruses. There are quite a few nasty buggers out there which you can't remove without the aid of an anti-virus program or utility. Anytime I encounter a virus I do: 1) Install/update/run Spybot (free) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html 2) Install/run HiJackThis! (free) http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-Hi ... 27353.html 3) Install/update/run AVG Anti-Virus (free) http://free.avg.com/ 4) Install/update AusLogics Registry Cleaner (free) http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner For those of you with clean systems, you'd be surprised what all these programs find. Oh and yeah, McAfee and Symantec AV are POS programs. I have 10+ years in the IT world and I'd always rely upon free 3rd-party software to remove/fix problems. McAfee and Symantec are great at preventing a virus from getting in, but IMHO they suck at removing them.
  3. Wow. That kit really did a nice job on that TJ. Looks so much better than the herculiner that I used on my CJ7 tub. I think I'll plan on using Raptor on my MJ bed when I get to that point. There is a full kit on ebay for $97 buy-it-now. Thanks for the link, completely changed my mind. I was planning on spending some bucks for line-x. :ack:
  4. You aren't alone. Here in Oregon we have a 12% unemployment rate and I'm one of them. I've been unemployed for over a year now, lost my job back in June of last year. I've lost track of the number of jobs I've applied for and so far have had 4 interviews in the last 13 months. Four months prior to losing my job, we lost our house after being financially destroyed by a business my wife and I had invested into. My credit, savings, and entire inheritance was completely destroyed. I have three young kids and I thank God my wife has a steady job. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, I just finished my paperwork for re-enlistment back into the military. Not really thrilled about it since I have a problem how our government operates but at this point I'm desperate for work. Military might be an option for you, steady pay and good benefits. Assuming you haven't served already :D Probably the best decision I ever made was to enlist. Not for everyone though. Hang in there buddy.
  5. F15E ! Now that is one hell of a daily driver :D
  6. Okay, not to hijack this post BUT.... First of all, it is sad that someone would C4C a Jeep let alone a Comanche.....but a mint CJ7??!!!!! WTF!!! The owner needs to be horsewhipped. :thwak: Why in the hell would someone do something like that! If I worked there that CJ7 would probably mysteriously disappear one night.
  7. :rotf: Same here and almost without fail. Some examples. Won't start. (left the lights on for the nth time) Clutch doesn't work. (rested her foot on the clutch pedal while driving  ) AC stopped working again (blower motor has died twice, just doesn't like her) Overheated (two blown radiators within a year, they don't like her either) I think she just has bad Jeep karma. :D
  8. Looks like the AX-15 to me. The cruddy BA 10/5 was discontinued in 89 IIRC. If the rest of the truck is in good shape and there isn't any major rust, I'd say $700 would be pretty reasonable for a long bed.
  9. If there isn't anything wrong with your wiring, sounds like a bad injector. With a new engine and the fact your injectors are over 20 years old, I'd either have them professionally cleaned or replaced with new ones. There is a way to test yourself by measuring ohms but I don't have the specs. Since x6 injectors can be a costly purchase I'd look at having them tested & cleaned. I had mine cleaned last year when I started to get a lot of random misfires on #6. I had them cleaned by Witchhunter and haven't had a problem since. Spent a little over $100 for cleaning and testing of all six injectors. New ones would have cost me over $300. http://www.witchhunter.com/ Hope you track your problem down.
  10. Before I tore it apart, my 91 MJ got 22-25 overall (mixed highway & city). 2wd AX-4 transmission, 215's / 15" rims, 3.54 R/P, and a tired oil-consuming 2.5L
  11. LOL! You guys even found more than I did. I drive by this place all the time and they are almost always closed. I've seen a couple questionable jeeps for sale by them in the past. I drove by there night before last and their entire parking lot was full including the workshop bays. Their backyard is nothing but a giant lot of wrecked cars. Not sure exactly what goes on at their business but it is a really bad part of town. Couple people just got stabbed near their business the other night. Really friendly neighborhood. :brows:
  12. Still looking for a used grand cherokee but ran across this http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/1329938181.html Has 4x4 issues but I couldn't help but notice something "wrong" with the Jeep. Anyone else catch the problem too? :brows:
  13. The last department I was with, had two late model black & white XJ's. One was donated to public works after it was "retired" and the other was for the K9 officer. One sad day it had an engine bay fire and was totaled. This was before I joined, but my best guess is it didn't have the heat shield recall for the intake manifold. Even with the stupid thing, I have to vacuum out my manifold every couple of months. Bugs, leaves and other crap still makes it's way up there.
  14. :dunno: I've heard the same thing before. I've always used FRAM and I've never had a problem.
  15. I think Morris Center carrys the remote reservior. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product-in ... r=52003130 Says it for an 87-90 XJ 2.5 but it should still be the same. I've ordered from them before and they have a pretty decent selection of parts. As for the pulley, you can get it from one of my favorite parts suppliers www.rockauto.com DORMAN Part # 300301 {OE Solutions #53002909} It is listed under a 93 2.5 XJ but the 93 XJ and 91 MJ both list the same power steering pump under part A-1 CARDONE Part # 20820 {w/o Reservoir; Reman.}
  16. My manual states that all readings should not be below 100 psi and there should not be more than 25psi difference between cylinders.
  17. You didn't state your mileage however I assume it 200k+ being an 87. My 91 had 230k+ on the clock and consumed about 1qt every month from blowby and worn rings. Sounds like time for a rebuild but I'd pull your valve cover and inspect it unless you already did. Mine was completely clogged with gunk. Never hurts to do a compression test either.
  18. You would be surprised....Last few years a couple officers in my local area got busted for that same exact thing. Sorry to say that I know this first hand...I used to work with one of the officers that got busted by another department for some crazy craigslist love. No woman is worth that.
  19. I'm sure others will chime in but here is my 2 cents. Once or twice I've almost bought one of those chips but I'm glad I never wasted my money on them. There has been much discussion of said chips on other jeep forums which consists of many complaints. Nothing really negative about the actual product, just the fact it doesn't seem to make any difference. Some reported minor MPG gains from .5 -1.5 but that is a moot point since such gain could be made by your driving style and properly inflated tires. If I were you, I'd save my money for something else as suggested below. Like you stated, you have 160k on your engine and while you can get many more miles out of the engine it may be time to look into a stroker. I'm in the same boat with 140k on mine and I've lost a lot of "oomph" from all my added weight. Steel rims, lift, larger tires, bull bar, winch, armor, etc..Even after a re-gear I only get 16.5 MPG regardless how I drive. I've done every power mod available and the only way I'm going to squeeze out any more power out of the 4.0 is a stroker. Excellent resource for stroking your jeep is here. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/ Jeep on...
  20. Performance Distributors has what you are looking for. Kinda pricey though, might be cheaper just to buy some general wires from your local auto parts store. Most stores have DIY kits for custom lengths however they are a pain to setup properly. http://www.performancedistributors.com/jeep.htm
  21. Most older charcoal canisters have a removable filter which can get clogged with dirt and gunk. Pretty common with the older CJ's which causes idle issues.
  22. I'd drop the tank and inspect the locking mechanism at the top of the tank. The o-ring could be rotten or the cap could be loose. I had the same issue last summer here in the NW with my 01 XJ. Hot days I'd smell gas and the PCM would throw emission error codes. Couldn't find any leaks but slightly damp at the top of the fuel tank. Ended up being improper install by a tech at the stealership a few weeks prior. Locking ring wasn't even tight, just barely threaded on. My fuel pump had died abruptly and it was in the middle of the work week AND I had a full tank a gas. Didn't feel like dropping the tank by myself. Last time I'm ever lazy and take it to the dealer to fix. :fs1:

    Chickens!

My brother and I grew up with chickens in the back yard. Mainly just for fun, not so much for the eggs. Will be a fun project my kids when they are a bit older. Those barred rocks are good looking chickens. For anyone else that may consider getting chickens, they are fairly cheap to maintain (more so I think than cats/dogs). They also keep your slug and critter population down if you have a garden. They will even fight your cats for dibs on unfortunate mice that cross their path. :D
  24. Not to hijack the post but no. It was a 2wd with the AX-4 and a dana 35 3.55 rear. I got a complete matching non-vacuum dana 30 for $30 which I couldn't pass up. Planning on putting an AX-5 in since I already got a rebuilt 231 21spline for $40. Otherwise I'd swap to the AX-15 and an external slave.
  25. My answer to the thread topic. "When you pry the steering wheel from my cold dead hands". :D I will never again spend a dime on a new vehicle. All these bailouts and the cash 4 clunkers program has me pissed off to no end. :fs1:
