Before condeming the relay, make sure your fan motor is good. Unplug motor and connect directly to battery. If motor is good, it will run. Remember, electric fan only runs after coolant reaches certain temp. or if a/c is turned on. Could be bad temp.switch on radiator too.

Use High Temp grease, antisieze won't take the heat as well and will harden over time.

JYs are your best friend. Do some scouting and you'll usually find what you need and then some you'll probably need later. Don't loose the Faith

Brake squeal usually comes from harmonic vibration. Make sure your calipers slide on the mount bolts so they float with the rotor. You might try pulling the pads and coating the back with anti-squeal compound too.
-
Might as well fix it. If you aint working on it, whats the fun? :brows:
-
Try hitting whats left of the bolt with a hammer, sometimes that will shock it enough to break it loose. Alittle heat might help too. Good luck

Is it a bolt in? No mods to hoses? Sounds like a good deal. My stock steering box starting to leak and never cared for the feel ( or should I say lack of!)

Another concerning MJ noise
88 Beast replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I'm looking at your picture correctly, it looks like the dirt shield on the yoke has come loose. Its a press fit on yoke. It protects pinion seal. Might be causing noise while spinning. -
Mine did same thing, trans. mount was oil soaked and compressed. I like quick fixes. :clapping:

Thanks for the info, let us know if it makes a power difference. You're right down the road from my old stompin' grounds, Santa Cruz. Bikinis, Beach and Boardwalk and Beer

My truck came from Ca. No starting problems but if it can give her alittle more poop,Great. :clapping:

It is a PITA to repair. Get yourself a s/m and study up before taking it apart and take your time. You'll need a special puller to remove the pins on the sides of the column and be gentle with it. I broke one puller and had to drill out the broke of piece in the pin :fs1: Tighten all four bolts while your in there and use blue locktite. You'll never want to do it again. Good luck.

Transfer cases. 242 or 231?
88 Beast replied to comanche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
After reading this, sounds tempting to swap to a 241. We get it all here in Co. A couple of questions thought. Do I need to swap to a non dicsco axle? Transfer case linkage different? How common are these cases, as I've just seen 231 Cherokees. Thanks. -
:agree: All of the above. I've dealt with them all. Very common. If it ain't leaking, somethings wrong.

I run the Dynamax on mine, sounds good and is reasonable too.

The dealer stuff is way over priced, about $15 I think. Go the NAPA route. I work for the CAT dealer here, we got lots of o-rings. Cat is awfully proud of there stuff, still only paid a buck and half. -
I did mine like Rookie. I pulled an 88 and 89 cluster, both have blue back housings. Maybe thats the difference with PRNDL mount posts?
-
Has anyone come up with a fix for the glove box issue? I am planning on this swap but this may be a deal breaker
-
I did this swap a few weeks ago. It bolts right in if you have a floor shifted truck. Mine is a column shift auto so I needed to cut an opening in the tach face to mount the PRNDL. Careful measurement and it looks factory. As far as I know there were no column shift gauge clusters. Make sure you get the water temp.and oil pressure senders out of the donor vehicle and you get the cluster from an earlier model vehicle as later models had electronic speedos.

I've been using the Delta conversion from Quadratec for about a year. One of the best updates I've done. Still using the stck harness. Works great

There are alot of nice looking seats out there. After a long time of searching for a set of decent buckets I decided to grab a tape measure and head to the JY. I found a real nice pair in a late model Ford compact car, can't remember what model. Alot of fab work on seat sliders to narrow enough to clear trans.hump. Used bench seat brackets to bolt to seats. Not as easy as Cherokee swap but hey, thats half the fun of this stuff. Lots of head and leg room. I'm 6'2". If I can every figure how to attach pics, I'd post em.
-
I planning on doing the same, just haven't been able to find a donor at JY. I thought I read somewhere the brake switch also controls something with the AW4? T/C lockup or something. Is this correct? If so any info on wiring it up. Thanks.

I had the same problem about a year ago. Trans.mount was shot. About $35 from NAPA. Took care of problem and made shifting into 4wd easier too.
