True to my avatar name once again ...

Didn't achieve "fat", but they're big and under. Looks stout. I went with a 2" lift overall with adjustable control arms. I'm satisfied. I can't wait 'til we have some warmer, dryer weather. I don't have a garage. I have a bunch of bolt on things I've accumulated, which are sitting in a pile in the corner of my living room. Here she is, a couple inches taller ... -
Low Miles 2001 XJ on ebay
NHMJXJ replied to sinkrun's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I've seen several of their (Davis) XJ's listed on eBay over the past few years. All are in the 18-22K range. I've read good and bad, but all of them are super clean. As to that 22K MJ that's plastered all over Craigslist, I wish someone would just buy it. That seller is relentless. The thing shows up in every search I do for Cherokee stuff. -
I kinda like that chopped S10 ... it's got a good look to it.

Any idea what this is?

CL - MJ plus XJ - Price TBD

Off topic, but ... there are bottom feeders on CL that think sellers are desperate, conversely, there are sellers that don't know the value of what they're selling. -
CL - MJ plus XJ - Price TBD
NHMJXJ replied to Skorpyo's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Sent the seller a text ... they said, "best offer". Once upon a time on CL that little $1 next to the title (JEEP COMANCHE MJ XJ CHEROKEE - $1) meant $1000 ... I would guess the expectation is more nowadays. Edit: 6K for the pair -

An 87 with original 63K miles

Wow, There's a survivor. Horrible photo angle makes the bed look 10 feet long. Nice clean truck though! Respray? Grill upside down, definitely. -
Could be that the carwash gives you a discount if you have their plate frame. In my area Meineke will do a $19.95 oil change if you have their bumper sticker. I have to agree with previous replies ... I don't advertise.

As I wrote in the "complete lift kit" thread ... I'm looking for BIG, FAT and under. With the exception of maybe two vehicles I've owned in my life, I've always put after market wheels and tires on to separate them from the herd. Without exception or suspension modification, they were the absolute widest I could fit that didn't extend (much) beyond the wheel well. I just like that look. Like when you pull up behind a 60's muscle car that's tubbed. Here's my previous XJ ... -

Handsome ride there INjake89mj. Looked super clean in the pics. I should also mention I'm suffering from "garage envy". Is the pic of your XJ in _your_ garage? I shopped mine around for some lift estimates the end of this past week. I went to Steve's Jeep Country in Epsom, NH on Friday and Black Widow Customs in Manchester, NH on Saturday in the snow. Both places asked what tire size I planned to put on it before even talking about a lift. I appreciated that I wasn't "judged" when I said I wanted to keep a highway tire design. I'm at odds with engineering to achieve what I'm after. XJ's have some width limitations of which I wasn't aware. The look I'm after is a challenge. -

Thanks Pete ... Again, I plan to lift both buggies. The XJ will be my daily driver, so I want it _right_ for the long term. My MJ will get the same treatment and then I'm going to sell my Grand to refill the coffer. Ultimately I just want BIG FAT tires under both vehicles, but I don't want to "cheap out" and pay later.

So it seems sourcing parts is the answer. My challenge is; I don't know what I need and can do without. Got a little discouraged when I read a comment left regarding a OME "kit" on Quadratec ... Paraphrased; "Quality of components is excellent but be advised this is not a complete kit. If you're looking at this for a complete suspension upgrade be prepared to spend another $500 or more for the other parts." Their OME XJ kit is $850+ https://www.quadratec.com/products/76090_800.htm. Pete, I know you wrote "what I would do" before your list of components ... is that the whole list? Bare in mind I do have a budget.

Are control arms part of a lift "kit" or purchased separately? Love Hornbrod's truck, but sadly, mine will never look as good. It is, however, one of the sources for inspiration on what I'd like to do with mine.

Once again, the title of this thread is right. I don't want to start a new one or reinvent the wheel. Here are my thoughts and goals ... SIERRA051's OP sums it up for me. 3 inch lift and keep a quality ride. I will not be wheeling. I picked a 3 inch lift because I believe it will give me the "look" I want. You know, the "Earl*t's '89 Eliminator", kind of look! Damn she's a beauty. I've been squirreling it ($) away and plan to lift both my MJ and XJ. I already have 16x8 Moab wheels on the MJ with P255/70/16 Bridgestone tires. No lift, but they rub on the lower control arms when turned to the stops. My goal is clearance for a taller, wider tire (265/75/16?) and keep them UNDER the vehicle (minimal rubber beyond the stock flare) which is the only reason for the lifts. I'm going to put the same wheels on the XJ and ultimately the same tire. I'd like to at least have a "stock ride" and have the geometry right so as not to tax other parts, develop noise or experience this thing I've read about called the Death Wobble. With those goals in mind I would like to get "complete" kits. Much of this thread (and nearly all of MJ Tech) is over my head, so I ask for your expertise. AdTHANKSvance, Tim

My "new" 88? (Formerly: Granite State Clean-up - '90 MJ)
NHMJXJ replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thanks for the nod of approval. As to MOABs I agree (obviously) ... So much so, I have them on my WK! -
Right. What's a trunnion? Thanks again guys. The XJ just went through NH inspection which is pretty comprehensive. The shop I use doesn't up sell and would tell me if there were something worn and when It would need replacement. I think the thing just needs a good shake down. As I mentioned, I don't think the previous owner ever put it in 4WD. At least not often. My experience is "lack of use can be as bad as abuse". I'm pretty sure 4W hi is disengaged. I have (near) future plans to have it lifted, so I expect there will many chances to sort things out.

Looks very expensive.

Thanks for the feedback folks ... I used Sinkrun's method last night and the fronts didn't break loose. Still, it feels like it's engaged at slow speed turns from a start, like left-ing across traffic after coming to a stop while on dry pavement. Feels like a shudder through the steering wheel. I don't think the previous owner ever put it in 4WD.

I wish I'd remained "hoarder" and kept the one I sold. I shipped it to the guy in the original packaging. I considered buying a painted one and trying this ...

If anyone is hitting the boneyards, I would appreciate you looking for the chrome rear plate light cover for 97-01 XJ Limited. The part number is 55156011AC, but it's discontinued. There are a couple on eBay, but they're pealing. If you find a clean one in your travels, please grab it! I'll pay up! I sold one short on eBay when I sold my last XJ. If hindsight were foresight.

I may be off topic, but the title is right. I'm not much of a wrench (not at all in fact). I have a 2001 XJ and I believe the 4wd hi is engaged. The indicator light goes on when I lift the lever to engage and goes out when I depress the lever to disengage. I tried engaging and disengaging at slow speed, at a stop and have reversed after disengaging, but it definitely feels like it's in 4wd. Is there a way I can tell visually? Is there someway to disengage it manually from down under? Help!

If you have the floor space you should let it "relax" for a day or two. I left my new carpet in the sun all day (in August) before I began to lay it in.
