  1. You talking about the thermostat housing? This: You can get them from a junkyard off any 2.5L or 4.0L Jeep.
  2. Both of my Jeeps have the correct speedo gear based on tire size and gear ratio. GPS verified at a range of speeds to ensure accuracy.
  3. I understand man... I'll snap so pictures for sure. We can plan a Uwharrie trip in the future and perhaps you can go. I just ordered a Spartan rear locker for my XJ, so next time I can get out to Uwharrie is going to be fun for sure.
  4. On my XJ, I have 31's and 4.10s. On the highway, I average about 14.5 mpg. On the MJ, with 27's and 3.55s, I'm averaging just above that on highway... The XJ is an automatic and the MJ is a straight drive... :dunno:
  5. Alright, that's cool. Let us know as soon as you can as to whether you can make it or not. Come in another vehicle lol. It would still be cool to meet you.
  6. Black interior and original AMC Jeep branded keys? Hellz yea! Congrats man. That's two '86s in a row. By the way, I still have the original branded keys for mine too. Made sure when I changed out steering columns that I swapped the original ignition cylinder into it just to keep the original keys. . :MJ 1: .
  7. Never heard of it... But I'm open to suggestions.
  8. "Car"? What "car" did you put a ZJ NP231 into? lol :rotfl2:
  9. The XJ will be getting an upgrade soon. Just ordered at Spartan rear locker for my 27spl C8.25. I've heard nothing but great things about these. Been wanting one for a lonnnng time but never really had the extra funds until now. Paid $360 on eBay with free shipping. Not too bad considering I've seem them averaging about $450 + S&H... Pretty excited to say the least. :brows:
  10. Probably a couple hours at least... Figured we can grab some lunch at the food court or Steak n' Shake. Long enough to be worth my 2.5 hr drive lol.
  11. My dad is rolling with me, but if you can meet us someone early as crap that morning, we can convoy. I need to be in the UNC Charlotte area by 11:00am to let my dad do his thing. It's about a 20 minute drive from there to get to Concord Mills. Byrdock, perhaps you can meet us at the McDonald's at 40/42 by about 7:30am for breakfast and then we can roll out no later than 8:00am. Sound good? My name is Shawn by the way. I'll be wearing a Comanche or Jeep shirt.
  12. I've heard short only, but my 242 came from a '92 XJ with automatic (no sure of input shaft length) and it bolted right up, no problems. Anyone else know if desertmike's statement is true?
  13. I may be able to do that. My dad may have to go with my because he may have something business related to go to Charlotte for. If that's the case, him and I probably won't have a chance to meet you someone local before hand. But, if it's just me, then that sounds like a plan. My buddy Evan confirmed and possibly another one of his friends may go. Evan will be in a 2014 Yota Taco because his stroked XJ is missing the top half of its engine at the moment. All my other buddies will be out of town due to spring break... lucky them lol.
  14. I'll take a go at it...
  15. So, to reiterate... Concord Mills Mall This Sunday, March 2nd at 12:00pm lunchtime. Correctamundo? I suggest we meet in the Bass Pro shop parking lot at CCM as they usual have lots of extra spaces in the back of the lot. . :MJ 1: . Just FYI, I haven't driven the MJ on such a long trip so I hope all goes well on the trip there. :crossfingers:
  16. I can't answer either question... Sorry guys... :dunno:
  17. The gauge cluster is electronically compatible from '84 - '90, so the PO likely used one from an '89-'90 or thereabout.
  18. Video of this in action, please!
  19. The speedometer was compared against my GPS for accuracy and at 55 MPH, it's just a hair off. I imagine at 70 MPH, it's might be showing 69 MPH on the speedometer. With my current size tires and gear ratios, I should have a 36 tooth speedo gear. I think my current one is 35, but that shouldn't be enough to give me a huge discrepancy in miles driven. Also, the reason I was thinking that 3.07's would help because that's what it would be from factory. They would've optimized it based on final drive ratio for best blend between fuel and torque. By the way, I'm using Fuelly.com to calculate my MPG. Here's my profile: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/onlyinjeep726
  20. Yea, the ballast just quiets down the pump by reducing the current and voltage going to it. Just connect the two orange wires together and all will be good.
  21. Yea, I know somethings not right. That's why I'm here lol. I don't know WTF is going on with the gas mileage. A/F ratio should be fine. Doesn't run lean or rich, the best I can tell.
  22. I'm sure my tach is off. I just kind of eye balled it based on idle when I calibrated it back for the 4.0L when I first started it up back in October... But that doesn't change the fact that I get just shy of 15 MPG consistently when it should (in theory) getting about 18-19 MPG. Gear ratio is the only thing it could be, at least that's my guess. :crossfingers:
  23. Alright, I have a bit of an odd question. Some background. My truck started out with a 2.5L and AX4. Gear ratio from factory is 3.54. It's now a 4.0L and AX15. I'm still running the same axles as was equipped when the truck was built. I know that Jeep used 3.07's for a 4.0/5-speed combo for optimal fuel efficiency. I'm currently averaging about 14.8 MPG mixed driving. I started a new job which is 30 minutes away and most of the trip there is on an interstate going 65-70 MPH. It revs at ~3,000 RPM. The question is, would it be better to swap to 3.07's or run slightly larger tires to bring the revs back down? Before anyone mentions tuning it up and cleaning stuff, I've essentially done all of that. New air filter, new brass cap and rotor, new wires, plugs, Neon 703 fuel injectors, new O2 sensor, new battery, new brass battery terminals, ground refreshments, etc.
  24. Bad CPS would cause stalling and intermittent starting. Ignition coil heat soak possibly? Mine acted up like this when fuel pump started going out. I know you just said that it was replaced by the PO supposedly, but it could've suck some junk from the bottom of the tank. What engine and tranny do you have? I'm assuming it's a '90 via your signature.
  25. The early Dana 35's were non c-clip. 3.07's are a stock ratio for a 4.0L with 5-speed. And that "big" gear is the ring gear, the smaller one is the pinion. It takes 3.07 turns of the pinion to make the ring turn once.
