The government is great at making things sound good. Then other people/companies/entities jump on the bandwagon. The first year of the energy saving tax deduction I spent $300+ on insulation, $150 on an energy star door and some other stuff. Total was like $650. I needed the stuff anyway, but because of everyone reminding me of the tax credit with every purchase I kept all y receipts. It saved me $17 in income tax that year...

Poll: Does your MJ have the original rear bumper?
mvusse replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
I still have the original bumper on mine. Or it used to be a bumper. Now it's a rotted, rusted, mangled mess of steel. But it's still attached. -
When I lift mine more it's just by a single wheel: But it was too high, so I lowered it some:

My 87 Pioneer has an automatic floor shifter with a full console, as does my 96 XJ Sport. I think the column shifter may just have been for the bench seat ones.

U bolts should never be reused anyway. They are designed to stretch only once.

You mean u bolts?

I run 6.5" lift and 35" tires. It would be okay on the street, but for off road when the truck flexes a lot more I had to trim (quite agressively on the front) and still need to bump stop because the wheel well itself gets in the way. I agree that a 33" tire is perfect for a 6.5" lift.

I seem to be exactly half way in between. Went to Badlands three times, never been to Rausch Creek. So I decided to go East for a change.

Look at the rust marks on the slip yoke. It is quite possible your drive shaft is short enough to work.

That's the same weekend a bunch of us are going to Rausch Creek. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=23087&start=0

Idgit should have been wearing his seat belt.

If I were to do it all over again, I would fix up my Comanche for DD duties, possibly mild lift (2"-3.5") with 31s. And build an XJ for a trail rig. If I were building a cheap rig for mudding, I would start with a 3/4 ton full size truck as a base.

The volage regulator on an 88 is part of the alternator itself. There are places that rebuild alternators (and possibly upgrade them in the process), or you can go to a junk yard or parts store to get an alternator. Aside from brushes for OLD Ford ones, I have never seen parts for alternators available in stores, just entire alternators.

Installing an after market front bumper didn't noticeably drop down the front, but when someone pointed out my bent tie rod (the beefier V8 ZJ one) I decided to check the alignment exepcting to find too much toe-in. Turned out I had 1/2" toe OUT from the weight of the bumper... Once you get up past 4.5-5" of lift, it changes a lot with a little difference in ride height.

Where can I get one of these?
mvusse replied to bighause's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The one I got from my hardware store is USA made, looks beefier than the original I replaced, and is not any cheaper. But I ran out and was back at my house in 20 minutes, as opposed to having to wait 4 weeks to get RE stuff that was supposedly in stock finally shipped out to me. -
Which states/countries have you visited in your MJ?
mvusse replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
Ohio Indiana Michigan Illinois Pennsylvania New York Ontario (Canada) Longest trip has been between Strasburg, OH and Clinton, Ontario. About 350 miles going through Michigan, but came home through New York once for 425 miles. Second longest Strasburg to Attica, IN (wheeling trip at Badlands ORV park) for just shy of 400 miles. -
Here in Ohio that MJ would go for $1800-$2000 even with a flat tire and electrical issues. And more rust.

The bolt, castle nut, cotter pin and heim joint should also be available at any hardware store, but for the spacers you still have to go to someone that sells RE parts, or RE themselves. -
Dana 35 - -Cryco or Dana Spicer?

I got rid of the drum brakes. Got sand inside them every trip off road, causing new shoes to last only two trips before they were down to the rivets. Disc brakes clean out much easier. -
Fix wheel position; spacers the answer?
mvusse replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The rear axle on an MJ is no narrower than the front axle. The body is just a lot wider. I have run spacers for a year and a half without problems. Before that I ran spacers on my Suburban for years without problems. If I may suggest a brand, I would say to go with Spidertrax hub centric ones. The ones list 87-06 Wrangler are the ones you need for an MJ. They are 1.25" (gives you a 2.5" wider track), which is just about right. -

never mind the fact that he has a Diesel and a $#!& ton more horse power. No i tried to get to see it, he's the one that wanted to race, so why not? try reading it again, I said BRAND NEW Ford. they don't put the 7.3Lin BRAND NEW Fords. :fool: (wish they still did though) No, the brand new ones can get a 6.7 liter that makes more hp and torque. Like 390HP and 735 lb-ft. That's more than the 7.3 ever made. But the 2011 Duramax still beats it...
-
Never had that happen to me before. I have broken ratchets internally, so the ratcheting mechanism doesn't ratchet any more, split sockets and twisted the end off breaker bars and reducers. But none of those have ever caused anything to go flying... Wow.
