My Comanche buildup, 4.0L swap
GirsMJ86 replied to commando14's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
nice lookin mj. that paint job is almost the same as I'm putting on mine. but mine is going to have all the willys stuff one it. ill get drawings up of it on here soon. then the real things once its done. 4 years on the d35 on 35s?! well just to warn you, the d35 is really weak and you may want to find a d44 or 8.8 rear axle just incase something goes wrong. and where/how did you get that green for the paint because I'm gonna need some asap? or can you atleast tell me the name of that color? alex -
my 86 mj with the 2.8L is 1403kg (3093lbs) alex
-
alright cool i might try that if it come down to it. alex

well what i was tryin to say bout the trans was would i have to keep the auto with the 4.0 out of the 88 and the manual with the 2.5 out of the 87? but i think you answered that. alex
-
would i be able to put my 4.0 from my 88 2wd into an 87 4wd if it had a 2.5? the 88 is and auto and the 87 would be a manual if that matters. might have to swap trans too maybe? idk. just wondering. alex

thats wicked. that things pasted through here durin school for me and it was still windy for the rest of the day yesterday.

when i ripped apart the entire front of mine to fix crash damage from the PO it came apart way easier then i thought. if they are locked up try some of the PB Blaster stuff. i used it on my 88 when the rear bumper was being a pain in the arse. it got the bolts on the bumper loosened up after soakin in for a day. but the bolts that were for the brackets had rusted and broke off in the frame and i had to drill them out (6hrs and many bits later :x) i got those out. :D alex

not bad. here's my higher rez one but its still in the works sort of. i need to fix the letters because they got really bad lookin when blown up and shrank a few times. pete what font is that so i can maybe get it to look better without too much work? Image Not Found alex

coil to spring conversion
GirsMJ86 replied to johnny quest's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it would be easiest/best to stick with your coils. there is really no reason to go to leafs bcuz u can make coils flex/hold just as much if thats y you are mainly thinkin bout doin this. unless there is sumthin i don't know about. alex -
if this was a fsj site i would have the perfect drawing i did of a gladiator that would work for that. but since this is an mj site ill have to work on one maybe.
-
yes that is a flopped pic of the one in the manual. i just nvr bothered to remove the interior stuff or fix it since its a sort of rough draft. itll all be fixed in my final higher rez pic. CW, bout nit picin, np. as someone who works in the area of art thats what I'm use to. it makes you a better artist anyways. alex

ok no problem. thats y we are here. hope it goes well for ya. i havent had many prblems workin on my 86 just my 88 when i restored it. alex
-
nope not bolt in. the only note worthy bolt in is the mj d44. there is a link round here on one of my old posts about the 8.8 swap and kit to do it that you would have to buy or make your own. the xj d44 which i am gettin this summer is another good swap for almost bolt in since the mj d44s are few and far between. for it all u have to do is reuse ur d35 spring mounts. i can search for that link if you want or not if ur not into the 8.8 anymore. buts that axle is a good swap just more work then a mj/xj d44. alex

3/4 would be cool but thats alot of work and i do that kind of stuff for a livin. but just for a logo its alot of work but can be done with the right software and we could also keep the font under it for the tires and make it 3d with the right tools also.
-
yes and the disc brakes are very nice to have, or so ive heard. the 8.8 is 5/8" narrower on each side though so either spacer it or it might not be too big a problem for ya depends what you think of it after its in.
-
and along the same thing pete was talkin bout with the 35 and 44 swap. since youll be runnin 31s with that d35 youll have to be a bit more careful in your drivin. the d35 doesnt handle bigger tires too well. just depends on how you are going to be driving the thing.
-
if you decide to go with the 3" lift i got mine from roughcountry.com. with all the upgrades for only 300 bucks about. just need to put it on this summer once i get my axles and O/L leafs.
-
here's the one i made when i was bored one night thinkin of stuff. I'm workin on a better resolution one but that takes more time. but ill post it when I'm done. Image Not Found

Aftermarket rear bumper
GirsMJ86 replied to Indyjeepnut's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
u want rust suggestions? get some of the silver por15 and their fiberglass fabric stuff. used it on my 86 and it works great. or if the holes for the rust are not that big you can just put tape on the back of the holes and paint over the holes and tape with por15 silver and its as hard as steel. I'm going to this summer use some of their hardnose black paint and paint it with that so the thing is chip proof and everything proof really. and trust me this stuff works. we used some on our farm tractors and it makes for a really tough paintjob. alex
